Dear sir
I AM taking insulin morning 45units and night 35 units
Present report fasting sugar 190 and after meals 305
...
Mr. The blood sugar readings show that diabetes is not in control. When in control fasting should be near 100 mg, pp should be 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. Achieving good sugar control is absolutely essential, otherwise various long term complications of diabetes will start appearing much early. This condition affects glucose, fat and protein metabolism. Plus small and large blood vessels, this affects eyes, (retina), kidneys, nerves, lower limbs and heart. So please see that your sugar levels are well controlled.

Dear lybrate-user, U need to have your Urine investigation done first. To find out the cause of UTI. It may take 1-1.5 months to cure the UTI with herbal medications. Meanwhile start drinking at least 3-4 liters of water every day so that kidneys maintain proper flushing. Also have fresh juices / fruits. Coconut water is best for you – have plenty of it. Strictly avoid all junks, oily -spicy food, pickles if you r eating, drink lots of water, juices or daily have fresh fruits. Try to keep your bowel clear. Avoid – tomatoes, beet root, leafy vegetables, cauliflower, beans, milk and other dairy products, yellow of egg. Have more of these – lemon / lime / Pineapple and its juice / Water melon. Drink Coconut water regularly - very good diuretic.

How to maintain the stones in the kidney. Generally all men's have stones but how to save yourself from unusual pain.

MBBS
General Physician,
How to maintain the stones in the kidney. Generally all men's have stones but how to save yourself from unusual pain.
Pain in renal stones occur mainly due to streching of renal capsule, local pressure effects and if in ureter its due to smooth muscle spasms. For pain you can have nsaids and smooth muscle relaxants like drotaverine. Now prevention of renal stones depend on type of stone. Also there are various diseases and drugs that can predispose to stone formation. A usg, complete metabolic panel and urine cytology and ph check up is needed in young aged patients. To prevent oxalate stones thats very commonly found you need to restrict oxalate rich foods like: peanuts, rhubarb, spinach, beets, chocolate and sweet potatoes. To prevent uric acid stones, cut down on high-purine foods such as red meat, organ meats, and shellfish, and follow a healthy diet that contains mostly vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and low fat dairy products. Limit sugar-sweetened foods and drinks, especially those that contain high fructose corn syrup. Limit alcohol because it can increase uric acid levels in the blood and avoid crash diets for the same reason. Eating less animal-based protein and eating more fruits and vegetables will help decrease urine acidity and this will help reduce the chance for stone formation. Take plenty of water also.

Kidney Stones - 5 Causes Behind It!

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, DNB (Urology)

Kidney Stones - 5 Causes Behind It!

What are kidney stones?
The primary function of the kidney is to filter the blood and eliminate the waste products through urine. The waste deposition is sometimes in the form of excessive calcium, uric acid and other undesirable contents. It may cause the urine to get highly saturated. This is when stone-like formations take place inside the kidneys. Kidney stones are also termed renal lithiasis or calculi. There are different kinds of kidney stones, which are differentiated based on its varied constituents. Kidney stones cause excruciating pain and uneasiness. Frequent urination, extreme discomfort during urinating and presence of blood in the urine are some of the major signs of kidney stones. The symptoms are not evident if the stones are very small in size.

Causes of kidney stones:

  1. Incorrect calcium intake: High amounts of calcium can lead to high calcium depositions in the kidneys. It is important to keep the calcium intake moderate. Calcium supplements must be checked if you have already included dairy products in your diet.
  2. Abnormal rates of sodium in the body: Sodium, just like calcium, gets deposited in the kidneys.
  3. Excessive animal protein intake: Too much of animal protein intake can make the urine turn acidic, leading to uric acid depositions in the kidneys.
  4. Sugary, aerated drinks: These lead to undesirable waste deposition in the blood stream and eventually in the kidneys.
  5. Inadequate water intake: Not keeping the body well hydrated can cause the urine to turn acidic and increase waste deposition.

Potential risks and complications of kidney stones:

  1. Kidney stones may cause an infection in the kidneys which may eventually spread to the other internal organs and surrounding tissues.
  2. Kidney stones block the ureter and cause severe pain and discomfort that make sitting, standing or any other posture difficult.
  3. Kidney stones rarely cause kidney failures but the severe blockage and infection may cause such detrimental results in the human body. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.
