How will your life change after weight loss surgery?

Hundreds of thousands are considering weight loss surgery as an option for battling obesity, and the reasons are well defined. Surgeries like the LAP-BAND®, gastric bypass, Minigastric bypass and gastric sleeve procedures are billed as minimally invasive and effective solutions for morbid obesity and other weight-related issues that can seem like impossible problems to solve.

Still, you might be asking yourself if your life will really change after weight loss surgery. And if it does, how will it change?

A Lot Will Change

Pretty much everything in your life will change or be impacted in some way after your weight loss surgery. Some patients even say that weight loss surgery affected their lives as much as other milestone events like marriage or having a baby. And that is in just the first weeks after surgery.

Your Eating Habits Will Change

This might sound obvious considering the fact that this is one of the primary reasons patients consider having weight loss surgery; but to clarify, weight loss surgery will drastically reduce the amount of food you can consume. In the first few months after surgery you may even feel full after only a few bites of food. Over the course of a year or so, you should be able to eat more. But you won’t be able to eat as much as your mind might think it wants to and you may not be able to tolerate many of the foods that you used to love.

You’ll also have to be conscious to chew your food thoroughly and take it in slowly – if you don’t, you can experiences sometimes-painful consequences. Eating too much or not chewing thoroughly enough hurts and might come right back up. Eating the wrong foods causes some patients to feel nauseous.

These unpleasant physical consequences are why some patients choose weight loss surgery as a solution in the first place – they feel that they will not have to rely on their own will power to change eating habits for the better. Even if you feel this way, it is important that you understand you will have to make changes that may not be pleasant or easy and having a support system in place to help you through it all will be a vital part of your weight loss journey.

You Will Change

It’s no surprise that your eating habits and relationship with food will change after weight loss surgery. What does surprise many people is how weight loss surgery affects so much more than how much they weigh and how they look.

Weight loss surgery will change the way you feel and more importantly the way you feel about yourself. While Minigastric bypass, gastric bypass and gastric sleeve are surgical procedures performed on your stomach, it is what happens to your “brain,” that makes the biggest difference in patients’ lives.

No matter what you might think, permanent weight loss and weight loss success is not automatic. It will be up to you to integrate new habits into your life and change ones that contributed to your obesity before your surgery. You’ll have to learn to eat healthier foods, be more active and take charge of your life. If you don’t you could end up back where you started.

Your life will be drastically different after weight loss surgery, but you can prepare for it and approach it head-on. The end result with be a new and healthier you, both outside and in.

Most probably you are having Hemorrhoids or Piles. Do some few things for symptomatic treatment Increase fluid intake minimum 2.5 litres daily eat a plant based food cut down animal meats reduce dairy high fibre diet lots of veggies and fruits keep moving do not sit for long hours reduce weight do not eat processed junk food. These instructions have to be continued regularly if you want results if these things do not work go to a specialist General surgeon and get further testing done.

I am a diabetic and have been taking metmorfin in the form of galvys met 50/500 regularly along with triglismisave. However the sugar levels does not seem to reduce, in spite of all other parameters of balanced diet and regular exercises being followed. Do we need to take them continuously or this mandates a change?

Dear, galvus met is a combination of vildagliptin and metformin. Your bmi is 24.5 which is just fine. A proper measure for knowing and managing your diabetes will be to ensure a hba1c below 6.5%. Regarding diet, we indians have high carbohydrate diet. You have to closely observe your plate and you can come up with a better diet plan for yourself. To simplify it, identify the items which are carb rich in your plate and try to compensate the same with protein and fibres, for eg cut down a roti and increase sabji, dal or salad. To have a better control you can do a monthly self glucose monitoring 3 times a day and keep a track of your food with it. Check fasting sugar, sugar one hour prior your lunch and 2 hrs post lunch, and note down the details of your breakfast and lunch items. Modify as per my earlier suggestions and within a week you will see your blood sugar level responding. Best of luck.

Increase eating. Do not skip meals. Eat more frequently. Take nuts, seeds. Add ghee, butter etc with foods. Eat extra refined foods with unrefined foods. Extra protein will help you to gain weight. Take lots of dense vegetables, whole fruits. Avoid smoking, alcohol. Do muscle building exercise to get attractive body and to gain weight. Drink plenty of water and take quality sleep.

Pregnancy test is never checked 1 day before menses date. It will not come positive then even if she is pregnant. It should be checked 7 days after the due date of menses. If positive there will be two lines and even faint line is positive. If negative repeat the test every week till she gets menses. And it is 100% accurate if done with good company card like velocit or preg test card.

Due to lack of sleep there are many complications arise such as lack of concentration, irritability, fatigue & digestion problem. So these are some instructions & methods for good sleep: • Frequent oil massage of head with oil relax your mind and enhances sleep. You can also do foot massage daily it destress you. • Do not take stress. Do meditation and long breathing pranayams to relax the mind. • Do not take caffeine, tea & alcohol in excess and these are stimulant,(activate) your brain result in lack of sleep. • Avoid drinking alcohol & smoking. • Avoid sleep during day time as it makes it harder to fall asleep at night. •Try to sleep early at night. Do not think during sleep and avoid use of laptop during night. Do exercise and long walk daily. • Avoid to take sleeping pills because these are habit forming drugs and these drugs disturb your normal sleep pattern. • Take a bowl of curd daily in afternoon and one glass of milk at night daily.

Dear Lybrate User Walking is best exercise for backache. Do back stretching exercise Stretching should be gentle, so stop any stretching exercise that causes pain. Sleeping on your back is best. Spending a few nights on the floor with a pillow underneath your feet can really help your back, even if it might be a little trickier to stay sound asleep. I wonder that your pains are for 3-4 years and how are you bearing it and why have you not gone for an MRI or why any consultant had not guided you for an MRI.So my suggestion is to immediately go for an MRI of the involved area of back as if the pain was a normal back pain then would have subsided by now.
