Just had breakup. Unable to concentrate on studies. My ca-ipcc exams are on head. Any how want to crack it. Frustration and depression are main problem.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Another broken heart! I have been there, done that. But it is difficult. Take this as a challenge and do better than expected by concentrating on your studies, immediately. If you are expecting this relationship to somehow work out, then it may be even more difficult. But if it is clear, that it is all over, then, even though it is painful, it is relatively a better situation to deal with. If it is the latter, just get rid of every reminder of that girl, and change your room decor, friends, jaunts, social circles, activities, and just throw yourself into your studies. If you love the person, just let her go, and if she is meant for you, she will return. I am sure you have heard this before but it is true. Change your schedule, and put in a lot of time focusing on your studies. Take charge of your life, and don?t let a girl, if she is undeserving, ruin your plans. I am glad you want to do your exams. I really like that.

How do I stop drinking alcohol as I been drinking a lot day n night and tried my best to stop but my willpower became short as I always tried old help.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Alcohol dependence involves intense craving or desire to drink alcohol. People drink for pleasure or rationalize it on external factors like family problems, work tension, etc. They drink continuously, i.e. Almost daily or even weekly once or twice with withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, bodily damage, etc. You need to consult a psychiatrist and go for 3 steps of de addiction. 1st is detoxification, when alcohol is stopped and the withdrawal is made smooth with minimal discomfort, 2 nd is maintenance and further deaddiction when the physical problems and psychological state of the individual is maintained and anti-craving drugs started 3 rd rehabilitation, when relapse prevention is the goal, while maintaining deaddiction. All the best.

Good. Introspection is the first step to success. Since you can reason yourself that drinking is a bad habit, it will be easy for you to get rid of it. Avoidance of difficult situation and preconceived estimation of other's reaction cause people to indulge in unhelpful habits. If you pick up biographies of great people you will find that after lot of failures and consistent effort towards desired goals led them to achieve, what they are today. Board exams are important in getting admission for pursuing higher studies. How you want yourself to be looked upon as is more imortant than that. Sometimes self identity and image are affected by low self esteem. Life is a journey and live it to its brim. You cannot predict your future.

I want to control my angriness what should I do please suggest simple methods to control.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Some of the "typical" responses to frustration include anger, quitting (burn out or giving up), loss of self-esteem and self-confidence, stress and depression. Anger management: 10 tips to tame your temper ANGER: There is a saying "Frustration begets anger and anger begets aggression." Direct anger, is expressed toward the object perceived as the cause of the frustration. If a machine does not work, you might hit it or kick it. If someone gets in your way, you could verbally threaten them or push them aside. If the source of the frustration is too powerful or threatening for direct aggression, displaced aggression is often used. The aggression is redirected toward a less threatening and more available object. An angry person often acts without thinking. The person has given in to the frustration and they have given up restraint. Anger can be a healthy response if it motivates us to positive action but all too often the actions we engage in when angry are destructive. Indeed, if we could see a videotape of ourselves getting angry, the humiliation might well help cure us of anger. When you feel frustration building, you have to practice learned responses that lead to healthy actions instead of destructive ones. GIVING UP: Giving up on a goal can be productive if the goal is truly out of reach. However, more often giving up (quitting or being apathetic) is another form of giving in to frustration. When repeatedly frustrated, people can drop out of school, quit jobs, or move away. Apathy is giving up all of your goals, so you cannot be frustrated by trying to reach them. We live in difficult time and we have to be persistent in order to accomplish. Consider how many projects you began, and then gave up, because you became frustrated and lost patience. Make a list of things you started and quit because they seemed too difficult. Now calculate the disappointment and loss you suffered by not dealing with the frustration in a more healthy way. Try to remember that quitters never win, and winners never quit. Losing your temper means you're a quitter. LOSS OF CONFIDENCE: is a terrible frequent side effect of giving up and not fulfilling your goal. A loss of self-confidence and self-esteem, means that If we quit once, then the next time we plan a goal, we may not be able to accurately assess our ability to carry it out and we stop trusting ourselves and our own abilities. This became a self-fulfilling and self-destructive attitude. You need to be able to learn that when the going gets tough, you say to yourself "It is worth it!" and by following through, it not only gets the job done, but it builds self-confidence. STRESS: is the "wear and tear" our body and mind experiences as we adjust to the frustrations our continually changing environment. Too frequently, extreme, or prolonged frustration and stress strains us and generates distress signals. Our body experiences distress signals in a variety of ways, often in the form of: irritability, anger, fatigue anxiety, headache, depression, stomach aches, hypertension, migraines, ulcers, heart attacks, or colitis. DEPRESSION: Depression can affect almost every aspect of your life. It affects people of all ages, income, race, and cultures. Depression can affect the way you eat and sleep the way you feel about yourself, the way one think about things, and the way you interact with others. While we all feel depression at various appropriate times in our lives, excess or inappropriate depression cannot be easily dismissed or wished away. OTHER REACTIONS: abuse of drugs & alcohol is self-destructive and usually futile attempt at dealing with frustration, as are many eating and weight problems and addictions Whenever the immediate effects of the addictive behaviour wear off, users find themselves back in the same, or even worse, frustrating situation. Learning To Deal With Frustration It is unrealistic to believe you can rid yourself of frustration forever, but you can learn to do things to minimize your frustrations and to make sure you do not engage in unhealthy responses to frustration. You will need to learn to distinguish between what you hope will happen, what will probably happen, and what actually happened. Life inevitably has its ups and downs -- its moments of relaxation and times of tension. When you learn to truly accept this reality, you come one step closer to being able to deal with frustration in a healthy way. There are several types of problems that we encounter in everyday living: those which you know can be solved, those which you are not sure if they can be solved or not, those you know are totally out of your control, and those you are so confused about that you do not even know what the problem is. You need to be able to accurately assess your abilities to alter situations that prevent you from solving your problems and reaching your goal. Then you will be able to assess which of the types of problems you have encountered, and you will then be able to develop a realistic plan. Learning to take things in stride will also help you to be more content and happy which, in turn, will help you to more easily overcome anger and frustration. If you are upset, sad, anxious, or depressed you will have less patience and tolerance for everything and everybody.

I have stopped smoking. How can I clean my lungs, so that it does not cause problem later.
That's very good, you can see the positive impact of smoking cessation on your physical fitness will starts appearing soon after quitting. Purification of the lungs takes a very long time although your lungs may become cleaner over the time. Eat fruits, green and leafy vegetables for detox you lungs. Do some physical exercise daily like jogging, swimming, outdoor games etc. Many people feels stressed after quitting smoking so try to be relaxed, meditation is also very helpful. Always remind that if you continue smoking your lungs will only continue to be damaged. Please do not forget this point and keep up your motivation for quitting smoking. Be proud of your everyday improvement you have already achieved. Thanks.

Dear lybrate user. The way you have carried out a number of tests for yourself, definitely suggest your anxiety, worry and doubt about yourself being healthy. If you are preoccupied with the idea of being diseased and get various tests done time to time even when assured to be healthy by doctor, you may be suffering from hypochondriasis which can be treated with medications. Anyways this is the side of story I have perceived from the information made available by you. For appropriate management you need to get in touch so that complete history and symptoms of your condition can be understood and treatment will be based on the same.

Hi lybrate-user! Your suffering is due to some kind of internal pressure and of course you are right. You can undergo psychotherapy and counselling for the same. You can actually share your problem, bcoz the Psychologist will keep your problems completely confidential, bcoz their most important aim is to solve your problem and help you lead happy and peaceful life. Only a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist by profession can help you overcome your problem related to mental and emotional disturbances and not other doctors. If you need to consult a local Psychologist or Psychiatrist or with me online definitely you can, so that you can completely overcome this problem. Take care. With regards, Psy. MSV.

Busy people use organizers or employ a personal assistant because they can't remember every task. You need to understand this. If you still say, you are having memory problems, we need to check your memory using memory test. If you want more of my help in this regard, please contact me. Take care.

My brother Age is 35 years he is smoking cigarettes from past 10 years. He smoke daily near 8 to 10 cigarettes. How to skip or reduce cigarette daily. In Future how to overcome this problem completely.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Ask him to follow these instructions: You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

I am 25 years old. I have been suffering from depression since I was 18. I call it depression because the internet told me that it is depression owing to the symptoms but haven't consulted any doctor yet. After all these years my condition has deteriorated. I'm sad everyday. I sleep timely but when I wake up it's like I haven't slept at all and there is a gloom that sets in the morning and stays with me throughout the day. I don't feel like doing anything and I've become dangerously forgetful and this has been running my career too. Please tell me what should I do and if I can be cured.

My advice is that you meet with a doctor to determine whether you are depressed or not. You cannot be completely right by studying all the symptoms. Even if you were accurate, you should have sought some p[rofessional help for all these years. I will suggest a few symptoms and even after that you must visit a professional to know for sure and find some therapy to help you. What Are Symptoms of Depression? According to the National Institute of Mental Health, symptoms of depression may include the following: •Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions •Fatigue and decreased energy •Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness •Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism •Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping •Irritability, restlessness •Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex •Overeating or appetite loss •Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment •Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings •Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts.

Its quite natural to feel frustrated due to your overall tragic condition. But let me assure you that the human mind has a great capacity to bounce back. You just have to become realistic and accept the present situation without any sense of denial. Go slow and have patience. Have courage to face the situation by having faith in yourself. Start with a positive thought and affirm yourself that you will one day be out of this situation. Keep your efforts to become active by moving as much as possible. Eat a wholesome diet with lots of vegetables and fruits which will help you feel fresh and energetic. You can also try Homeopathy which is safe and effective. Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.
