I have 10 years work exp, had planned to start a business but investors ditched. Now it' s been a year I am not able to find a job. Sometime I feel worthless. I was at a senior post, but now no one wants me. I am not getting any job. It' s become a hell living like this.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I think the first mistake you made was to quit your job without checking whether investors are interested to put in money. Now the deed or misdeed is done and we need to look at how to get on with life. There may be a problem with the business idea you floated for investors not to pitch in. So my request is to abandon the idea and seek an alternative. There are so many online job sites that are flooded with job offers, quite regularly. Please register with all of them. It does not help if you are unemployed for over a year. Nevertheless, you must apply and keep persevering. There are other network opportunities that is worth considering and involves initial investment that can be recovered very fast and you can earn more and above, if you work sincerely. It does not require any qualification or experience. Yet it is very remunerative if you have a sincere commitment and can put in a few hours of time and hard work. If you are interested, you can contact me for further details.

My wife is 42 years old. She was having problem of depression for more than 4 years and now she is out of depression and not taking any medicine, but the problem is that she cannot sleep more than maximum 4 hours. Pl advise us what to do. What will be solution for better sleeping.

My wife is 42 years old. She was having problem of depression for more than 4 years and now she is out of depression...
The depression may have disturbed her sleep patterns considerably and the medication may have had some impact too. Sometimes, apart from the depression, she may not be aware of stress because it has not yet manifest itself in any obvious or disturbing way. Her disturbed sleep itself can be a cause, or concern for stress because she has grossly disturbed her biorhythm. Whatever the situation, she may still follow some good habits that will help induce sleep, even if it takes care of the symptom only. There are 86 diseases that are directly affected by lack of sleep i.e. less than 6 hours per night. She must talk to a professional and deal with the stress. Yoga, meditation, and stress management exercises with definitely help. She must also do vigorous exercise every day, whether she gets sleep or not. She should wake up at a uniform time every day, even if she doesn?t get sleep. She could sleep in the afternoon but try not to exceed 20 minutes to catch up with lost sleep, and that too only if necessary. Ideally, it is better not to sleep during the day at all. Even if she does not get sleep let her get to bed at a uniform time like 10.30 and just lie down and read some non-stimulating material. In the lying down position the body tends to regress to a childlike state and will induce sleep. Do not get up to switch off the light, and so you need to arrange for a bed lamp that can be put off at a stretch of a hand. She should not take alcohol, tea, coffee, soft drinks etc. before going to bed. A warm glass of milk before bedtime improves sleep for various reasons. Have dinner early and always make it a pure carbohydrate meal that can be had with any vegetables. Make the room as dark as possible but warm and cozy. Block out all forms of light entering the room through windows. The room must have reasonable cross-ventilation. There must not be any LED lights nearby your bed. Reduce all kinds of sounds around her: light music may be put on if it induces sleep for her with the ?sleep? function on. In rare cases she could watch TV in a lying position and switch off when she feels drowsy. There are some odors that could stimulate prevent sleep from happening; kindly examine that ? this includes perfumes, soap scents, and even laundry detergents. Check out if a warm or cold bath induces sleep for her, and do that before retiring. If she has exhausted herself through exercise, she will find it easier to relax into a stupor. Contemplate on calm and relaxing thoughts while in bed: decontaminate her mind from all the stresses of the day before going to bed. She could acquire a recording of gradual relaxation and guided relaxation routines. Sleep with her head facing North, and do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. Sleep as far as possible on her left ear. Try these for now and if these fail she must meet with a counselor and work out other matters that may be causing the insomnia.

Dear , don' t worry. If your doctor said that there is nothing to worry, that could be it. Worrying and stress can worsen physical symptoms but there may not be any medical / scientific base. These type of mental diseases are called psycho-somatic diseases. You must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. Therefore no medicines are required. Mental disorder can be successfully treated with the help of awareness, meditation, psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc.

How can we increase the memory power is there any medicine available or is there any exercise?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
There is no medicine that is available to increase memory power. All the claims that you read about are just that: tall claims and no truth in them. But there are things you can do to help yourself. Here are some things you can do to get back your concentration and memory: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Hello , take Bacopa monn. 1X , 2 tabs , twice daily to make your concentration better. Do the below exercises to strengthen your eye muscles:- Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids.

My boyfriend broke up with me a month back. We broke up exactly 2 days after we went on a long distance. We both were very serious in the relationship. I had been fighting with him a lot for stupid reasons. I am so full of guilt and begged him to take me back. He has been refusing me constantly and says that he does not love me anymore and he has thought over his decisions again. I am tired of hearing all the advice from all kind of people. Grieve, start loving yourself, concentrate on work, pray, meditate, date other people etc. Nothing seems to be working for me. Please help.

Hello lybrate-user I understand you are currently going through emotional crisis. Life sometimes throw challenges which can be overwhelming. All I would say is take few days to first comfort yourself. It's never wise to take decisions in crisis. So just get yourself into other tasks which are easy to handle. If needed talk to professional counsellors. Only when you are back in your old frame of mind think about best way to deal with this issue.

Dear lybrate-user, You may be suffering from a treatable mental disorder. May be your father is also suffering from the same disorder. One of the symptoms of this disorder is, what psychiatrist call as apathy or lack of emotions. May be you also have an auditory hallucination, someone in head asking you to do wrong things. Please at the earliest consult a psychiatrist and get diagnosed. Treatment may be long, but it is worth to live a better quality of life. But it is better that you don't take your dad's drugs on your own or start alcohol. They may not be proper treatment for your age and the type of work that you do.

There is something distracting you and it usually is related to stress, even if you don't feel it or know it. But because of your age I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. But the MIND approach “specifically includes foods and nutrients that medical literature and data show to be good for the brain, such as berries,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, director of nutrition and nutritional epidemiology at Rush University Medical Center. General Physician,
10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. If you find answer helpful please click on “helpful” tab for knowing my efforts are useful CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break. These are the general guidelines for concentration, studying well or doing your job. Regards.
