How to know if you have PCOS?

There is no single test to diagnose PCOS. There are many myths about PCOS. Some common signs and symptoms to look for are:

Irregular menstrual cycles
Irregular periods also called Oligomenorrhea
Weight gain, overweight (difficulty losing weight)
Difficulty losing weight
Excess hair growth on face and body- called Hirsutism
Darkened patches of skin
Skin tags
Infertility
Thinning hair
Insulin resistance
Type 2 diabetes
High cholesterol and high triglycerides
High blood pressure
Cysts on the ovaries(multiple)
Pelvic pain
Depression
Anxiety
Sleep Apnea(when breathing stops for a short period of time while asleep)
Decreased sex drive
Increase in stress levels

What one should try and understand is that out of these battery of symptoms which are listed above not all but a few would be present in an individual. If you as a patient compare yourself with another PCOS patient, some symptoms would overlap and some would be unique to you.

PCOS has become very common these days no doubt but it should not be over-diagnosed either. If you feel that you have any or many of these symptoms please consult your doctor.

Ayurveda For Diabetes

In Ayurveda, diabetes is known as 'Madhumeha' and is classified as a 'kapha' type of disorder. Ayurveda identifies 20 types of diabetes 4 due to Vata, 6 results from Pitta and 10 are caused by Kapha.

Causes

Factors that are often responsible for causing diabetes are excessive intake of foods which are difficult to digest, such as fried foods, creams, etc. Lack of exercise, mental stress and strain, excessive sleep, overeating and consequent obesity, excessive intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, overloading of proteins and fats can also lead to diabetes. Hereditary factors also play role in causing diabetes.

Symptoms

  1. Fatigue
  2. Weight loss or weight gain
  3. Frequent urinary tract infections
  4. Blurred vision
  5. Excessive sweating
  6. Excessive thirst
  7. Excessive hunger
  8. Frequent urination in large quantity

Ayurvedic Remedies To Control Diabetes

There are several herbs which are found to be very effective in treating diabetes and lowering blood sugar level. The greatest advantage of these herbal diabetes medicine supplements are that they have no side effects. Given below is a list of some of the most effective diabetes treatment herbs-

  1. Bitter Gourd (Momordica charantia)
  2. Bael (Aegle marmelos)
  3. Gurmar Leaves (Gymnema sylvestrae)
  4. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum)
  5. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
  6. Onion (Allium cepa)
  7. Nayantatra (Vinca rosa)
  8. Neem (Azadirachtha indica)
  9. Garlic (Allium sativum)
  10. Sagar gota (Ceasalpinia crista)

Ayurvedic Remedies for Diabetes Cure

  1. The bitter gourd is regarded as the best remedy for diabetes. Drinking at least one tablespoon of bitter gourd juice daily will reduce blood sugar levels in your blood and urine.
  2. Having bitter gourd cooked in ghee for a period of three months will bring the diabetes down by a significant amount.
  3. A tablespoon of Indian gooseberry juice mixed with a cup of fresh bitter-gourd juice, taken daily for two months will enable the pancreas to secrete insulin.
  4. Drinking a glass of water with 10 tulsi leaves, 10 neem leaves and 10 belpatras early morning on an empty stomach helps in keeping sugar levels under control.
  5. Mix and grind seeds of Fenugreek (100 gm), turmeric (50gm), white pepper. Take one teaspoon of this powder with a glass of milk twice daily.
  6. Put one cup of water into a copper vessel at night, and drink the water in the morning.

Diabetes Lifestyle

  1. Avoid sleeping during daytime
  2. Avoid smoking
  3. Take adequate eye care
  4. Do exercise regularly
  5. Take extra care of your foot

In Ayurveda, the body is made up of three doshas - kapha, vata, pitta and gunas - rajas, tamas and satva. The various techniques that Ayurveda recommends to improve your wellbeing are -

Mr. lybrate-user, Following are the criteria to decide whether a person has diabetes or not. 1) Normal: FBS 70 to 110 mg, PP<140 mg/100 ml & HbA1c% <5.9. 2) Pre-diabetes: FBS:108 to 125 mg, PP 141 to 199 mg & HbA1c% 5.9 to 6.4. 3) Diabetes: FBS:126 mg and above, PP 200 mg and above & HbA1c% 6.5 and above. If a person is in prediabetes state, usually no treatment is advised except adapting a modified lifestyle - like - regular exercise, avoid weight increase, avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas), fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed foods. There are some studies where Metformin has been used in prediabetes state, particularly in overweight patients. Usually it is not recommended. Thanks.

Priyaji, One of the main symptoms is weight gain, others are dry skin, hair fall, weakness, tired feeling, slow heart rate, intolerance to cold, swelling of face and lower limbs, difficulty in speech, inability to concentrate, menstrual irregularities and depression. Best is to get a thyroid assay done, which help in finding out if there ia any problem.

RA factor value of 19 indicates positive result. But simple RA factor elevated with pain in foot joints cannot diagnose Rheumatoid arthritis. RA factor can be raised in other conditions too like liver diseases. The medicines you have been started on is for Rheumatoid arthritis. I would suggest you to continue these medicines and see if you get any benefit. Meanwhile you should also start foot exercises. Wear good quality shoes with sole support. You should consult a pain specialist in your city for persistent problems. You can consult again for further queries.

Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For a diabetic person it is essential to achieve a strict blood glucose control. That means fasting blood glucose should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <7. That too considering your age HbA1c% should be <7. As regards TSH, in a well controlled hypothyroidism patient TSH should be around 3 to 4 mU/L, then only one will be free from all the symptoms of thatcondition. If TSH is 34 mU/L, means current dosage is not adequate. It has to be increased. Thanks.

General Physician,
To prescribe medicines and diet you ask privately. For confidentiality. Many factors contribute to hyperuricemia, including: genetics, insulin resistance, hypertension, renal insufficiency, obesity, diet, use of diuretics, and consumption of alcoholic beverages.of these, alcohol consumption is the most important. causes of hyperuricemia can be classified into three functional types: increased production of uric acid, decreased excretion of uric acid, and mixed type. Causes of increased production include high levels of purine in the diet and increased purine metabolism. Causes of decreased excretion include kidney disease, certain drugs, and competition for excretion between uric acid and other molecules. Mixed causes include high levels of alcohol and/or fructose in the diet, and starvation.
