4. Whole grains. Good bets include quinoa, kammut and gluten-free oats (not bread and cereal)

7. Omega 3s. People whose diets contain daily omega 3s have been shown to have 26% less risk of having brain lesions that cause dementia compared with those who do not. These fatty acids help the brain to stay in top shape. You can get your omega fatty acids from fish, flax seeds, olive oil (not safflower) or by taking a good quality omega 3 supplement.

8. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts and pecans. All of these nuts contain omega-3s and omega-6s, vitamin e, folate, vitamin b6 and magnesium.

9. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. These seeds contain zinc, choline and vitamin e.

10. Cinnamon, sage, tumeric and cumin. Theses spices can all help to break up brain plaque and reduce inflammation of the brain which can cause memory issues. In addition to eating the foods listed above, you’ll want to decrease the risk of illnesses that can make your brain age such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.

Dear lybrate-user Firstly, if the medicines have been prescribed by the psychiatrists, I would suggest kindly do not stop it by your own self because the psychiatric medicines work at the neuro-chemical/neurotransmitter level too so it takes time to adapt and show any effect, Dizziness, heaviness/headache, sleeplesness are few common conditions, we witness when someone abruptly leaves the medicine. There is a myth that psychiatric conditions are lifetime and medicines are also for lifetime which is not really true. Thus, I would advise that you kindly consult your psychiatrist and be medicine compliant and also request your psychiatrist to suggest you a good psychologist who can help you at the symptoms level and to relieve them for future betterment. Pedophilia is an unnatural or abnormal attraction towards children of either or both sexes, usually aged thirteen years or younger. A pedophile's attraction towards adults varies. They fantasize and/or act on their fantasies with children who have not reached puberty. Pedophilia is one of the most common paraphilia (abnormal sexual desires). The DSM i. E. Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders has included pedophilia as a mental disorder.

Here are a few facts about the disorder:

1. Pedophilic disorder is when pedophiles approach children to sexually gratify themselves or if desires towards children make them feel guilty and anxious and so, they alienate themselves from the society and are unable to achieve their personal goals.

2. One very important fact that one must keep in mind is that not all pedophiles molest children and not all child molesters are pedophiles. When one desires children, they are pedophilic. But only when they act on their desires, and sexually assault children, they are child molesters.

3. Since most pedophiles do not come forward or admit to having sexual desires towards children, most of the studies have been conducted on the pedophilic child molesters. However, the number of pedophiles is vast considering that there are about 4 million websites in business catering to child pornography.

4. Opening up and seeking help from a psychologist or psychiatrist might help them in curbing and managing these desires and prevent them from acting on them and committing sexual offenses. In rare cases, pedophiles are also prescribed medications to lower their sex drive.

5. Male pedophiles are far more common than female ones.

6. Most of the child sex offenders are family and relatives.

7. Psychologists believe that children who are lonely and aloof, and feel neglected are at a higher risk of being sexually abused. The type of activities differs in each case, while some just undress and look at a child, others force the child to take part and perform oral sex and/or touch the genitals or more.

8. In most countries, it is mandatory to report a pedophile to the authorities even when there is no risk, which is why most pedophiles do not come forward and admit having this disorder. They refrain from seeking help.

However, there is a prevention project dunkelfeld in Germany that provides free of cost services to people who are attracted to children, but are dedicated to not to act on their desires and molest children. This program maintains its members' confidentiality. Such programs are essential for a healthy society.

Dear user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I am 35 years old. Since last 20 years I am suffering from depression, anxiety,panic attacks. Lost career. Relationships.everything. Tried many treatments, no one suggested me to see psychiatrist. After divorce have been sexually harassed by so many people, everyone approaching me just for sex, when I refuse they abuse me verbally. Most of them are my school friends, people I knew for many years. Because I am divorcee, and I am so much emotionally and mentally disturb they are trying to take advantage of my situation. I have blocked everyone. I have stopped receiving calls. I have stopped going out. I am so afraid to go out as I can not handle this sexual harassment anymore. I am rape victim. I do not know how I am going to spend rest of my life. There is any way that I can live normal life ever again.

Dear lybrate-user, Am so sorry to hear about what all you have been through, I am sure it has not been easy but you're a tough woman! I want you to understand that you are not alone and there is help available for you. The depression, panic, anxiety and all other symptoms and life situations have their root in the trauma you have faced, this includes the sexual harassment. I understand why you have isolated yourself but this will lead to loneliness. I want you to know that you're a strong woman and you can change your life situation. You just need to stay strong and focus your mind towards a better future. I strongly recommend clinical hypnotherapy to help you with your fears and anxiety and for the trauma, counselling with a good psychologist or counsellor. In the mean time, Pls start rebuilding your life again, start by stepping out of the house, going for long walks to clear your mind and practising some yoga and meditation. To concentrate in you r studies you hav to give priority to something you really wanted to do, that is your studies ,but as you are preoccupied with other senses, it is becoming difficult. Your mind and your body which has to be under your control but unfortunately you are slave to your own wishes, at very first instance you have to develop confidence in you that, surely you will come out of this extream sex drive, which in future is not good as indulging in more sex then normal will cause premature evacuation, impotency and extream cases weak sperms and infertility will develop there are some exercise that surly will helpful to you 1. Get up early morning around 5.30 am and after a bath, do prayers and meditation for 10 minutes go for 5 minutes brisk Walk and 3 minutes stop and take deep breaths. In your condition you have to tell yourself that" I will come out of it "atleast 10 times. Repeat this 5 times. 2. Early morning after walk take one glass of warm water with 2 spoons of honey and 4 drops of lemons in it. This refresh you and helps you to remove toxins from your body. 3. If the drive is more fasting will help you at least fast for 2 days in a week, if you really wanted to come out of it. 3. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, take less protein and fat diet. 4. Never be alone, try to indulge in some good deeds like helping poor and needy. This will help to identify the beauty of life and charity and the satisfaction from it. 5. Realizing the meaning of your name will definitely help you, understand it and remember that God is always with you and love those who really wanted to go on right path.

I smoke too much so what to do to maintain low risk? And due to that I get exhausted too early.Please suggest me something for controlling that.

You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check-up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact, these conditions can exist all through the day, unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heartbeat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact, it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chew gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. You could also join twitter2quit program and enjoy its success to give up smoking.

Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Stammering can also be due to anxiety. Consult a psychiatrist and seek remedy. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user I am sure it would have been difficult on your part as well as your colleagues and family the temporary loss in business. It is easier for anyone to say that it is part and parcel of life but these situations does leave an impact in each one of the us. May be the loss was deeply ingrained at the thought level and thus it is taking time to completely avoid it. I appreciate that you have been working on yourself and doing well. I am at that stage of my life where I can't figure out things. I have too many things that are causing sadness. There is anxiety, there is forgetfulness, lack of interest, no happiness from within. I have been lonely for a quite number of days. And I cannot mix with people immediately. I am facing difficulty in communicating and speaking my mind. I am always alone in college. Please do pranayam. Spend time with small children. Try to be a leader. Not follower. Give lecture to some body at home for a few minutes. If nobody then just think someone is listening. Do talk. Talk to yourself positively for ten minutes. Wear clean clothes and eat healthy homemade food. Plan your activity for each day and week in advance. If studying then try to top in any one subject. Pray every day.

I am unable to concentrate on studies for longer time. I can not get sound sleep.

If you are unable to concentrate on studies for a longer time, take short breaks in between. Study for only 2 to 3 hours everyday but be consistent. If you read you will remember but if you write the important points, you will remember more easily. Also writing will decrease eye strain due to continuous reading. Practice meditation for effective concentration on studies. If you do not get sound sleep, do not take stress. Do not use your bed for studying; use it only for sleeping. Do not study just before sleeping time. Relax your mind before you go to sleep. If you have stress of studies, please discuss with your friends or family members.

There are certain adaptations that will suit you during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime you can do certain things that will give you benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You need to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that you may never be aware of now. Talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times you will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that you can do without the medication. This will set you back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i.e. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in you for a personal understanding. Regarding some of the symptoms here goes: Mania is a term that describes the emotional highs of bipolar disorder. One of the emerging psychiatric disorder that has significant medical and psychiatric consequences is compulsive sexual behaviour or hypersexuality, is an obsession with sexual thoughts in which people cannot manage their sexual behaviour. It may involve a commonly enjoyable sexual experience as self-stimulation which becomes an obsession. The person suffering from the condition may also get involved in sexual behaviours that are outside the bounds of commonly accepted conduct like paying for sex or having extramarital affairs.

Untreated compulsive sexual behaviour damages one’s self-esteem, health, job, relationships and career. However, with treatment and self-help, one can manage compulsive sexual behaviour and learn to manage one’s urge. Males are more likely to be unfaithful than females because they have stronger sexual impulses and weaker self-controlCompulsive sexual behaviour symptoms vary in type and severity. During intense sexual impulses, one feels as if they're beyond control. It assists in development of healthier choices and coping skills to minimize urges and deal with the preoccupation of sexual addiction. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can prove to be very useful as it focuses on increasing one’s awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviours, and developing new insights into their motivations. Resolving conflicts using this therapy is also recommended. The other kind of treatment program is cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps one to identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Family therapy and couples therapy may restore trust, minimize shame and guilt thus establishing a healthy sexual relationship between partners.

Medications include anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers and anti-androgens have also been used to treat compulsive sexual behaviour. Anti-androgens are prescribed as it reduces the biological effects of sex hormones in men thus reducing sexual urges. Luteinizing hormone is also prescribed as it reduces obsessive sexual thoughts by reducing the production of testosterone. Anti-seizure medications, naltrexone, and medications which decrease male hormones have been found to decrease the compulsive urges and impulses associated with sexual addictions for some sufferers.

Every individual experiences anxiety in some form at some point of time. One suffers from an anxiety disorder if one experiences dogged, unrealistic worrying about everyday life. One is said to experience panic attack if the abrupt attacks have symptoms like racing heart, nausea, tremors and intense fear. A panic attack is a sudden rush of overwhelming anxiety and fear. The heart pounds and breathing becomes difficult. If ignored and untreated, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and may cause one to withdraw from normal activities. 

With a little mindful attention and practice, one can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of a panic attack, manage anxiety, and prevent attacks from occurring in the future and regain control of life. If one is having a panic attack, then the aim is to calm oneself at the moment by breathing deeply. This would reduce the stress and provide oxygen to the brain to help one focus. Hold your breath to start with and reduce the feeling of choking and then begin to breathe slowly. Inhale through nose and exhale through mouth till one notices a difference in muscle relaxation and clarity of thought.

During a panic attack, your thoughts are often jumbled up. This is due to the fact that one's heart rate has kicked off and breathing is in high gear, muscles are tensed and blood flow is constricted. One should try to focus on one's senses and should distract the mind from fear through different mental diversions. This can be as simple as reciting the lyrics to your favourite song or poem until one has calmed down a bit. It is important that one should make sure not to distract by leaving the situation that has caused the panic. One must ride out the panic attack at the same place else one will likely associate that place or situation with fear triggering future attacks.

Try to practice progressive muscle relaxation by slowly going through body and tensing and relaxing each muscle group. It relaxes muscles as well as forces one to concentrate on something other than fear. Although, if one want to reduce the anxiety, don't ignore it. One should try stop anxiety producing thoughts and replace them with images of something that brings you happiness or peace. Using guided image of a place where one feel at peace and relaxed, reduce one's experience of anxiety. Further, add details to the scene, so that one is focusing the entire mind on imagining it. 

Taking care of one's physical health will help take care of mental health. Healthy exercise and diet habits will help you manage manage anxiety. Getting an body active, especially through aerobic exercise, releases chemicals that are responsible for increasing ones feelings of peace and happiness. Stimulants like as caffeine and nicotine worsen existing anxiety and dependence on them can increase feelings of stress and anxiety when one don't get enough of it.
