Dear lybrate-user, you are getting continous pain in legs and hands it is because of your imbalance sugar levels and due to potassium imbalance also it happens. You can have homoeopathic medicines with is more safer. Because keep on having the diabetic medicines in allopathy causes kidney mal functions. It is one of the reason for sodium and potassiuim imbalance. So check your urea, creatinine,electrolytes and start with homoeopathic medicines.

My mother is 70 years old, recently she had a hair line fracture on hand, she had a PLASTER on hand, she is taking heavy dose of pain killer, she got relief for some time but again the pain get started. Also she is having arthritis. Doctor said after 6 week plaster will be remove, so my question is as a arthritis patient she get ok after 6 week, also WHY SHE IS HAVING PAIN WHEN THE plaster IS THEIR. Pl guide me.

Good Afternoon, Mr. lybrate-user, A fracture is a break in the continuity of the bone. This break causes certain chemicals to release which in turn causes pain. It is a defence mechanism of the body. A fracture takes time to heal. The process is slow because the bone cells grow at a very slow pace. The bone heals on its own. We put a plaster so that the joins at the right place and the healing is quicker. The plaster in no way addresses the pain. It is advisable to continue the pain killers as prescribed by your doctor. Keep in mind that given the age of your mother and her associated conditions, the healing will be slower and you will have to be patient. Hope this helped.

Hi! Being obese is the cause of ypur knee pains. The whole body weight falls on knee joints when you r standing. Meet a physiotherapist for strengthening your knee joint and its surrounding muscles. Then start brisk walk daily for atleast 30 mins a day. A physiotherapist would suggest you some weight losing exercises also. Do not go for any crash diet by yourself. Instead meet a dietician for a good planned diet chart.

Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight Leg Raise: Lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

A small piece of bone is known as a fragment and it is very common that an avulsion fracture also tends to damage the protrusions of bone to which the tendons attach. This basically means that the tendon or ligament will come away from the bone and it will take a small piece of bone with it. It is sometimes very hard to find out what type of injury you have and this is why knowing the causes and symptoms of an avulsion fracture are very helpful in determining exactly how severe the injury is. 

Here are the causes of an avulsion fracture:

  1. Explosive landing: Athletes who tend to jump or land with great impact tend to get these most commonly. Therefore, it is crucial for your health that if you participate in such sports, you do follow the correct method of jumping.
  2. Explosive extension: Similar to how an athlete landing ferociously can get an avulsion fracture, someone who is extending the legs very violently and explosively during an exercise can also get an avulsion fracture. This is because the bone getting extended could very well damage the protrusions to which the tendons are attached. 

Symptoms
These are the two main causes of an avulsion fracture. There are not many symptoms of an avulsion fracture. This is because an avulsion fracture can only be determined by an MRI or by an X-ray scan. Therefore it is nearly impossible to diagnose that you have an avulsion fracture without looking at the results of the tests performed on the part of your body. However, the way you got the fracture and especially the details of it are very good indications of whether you have an avulsion fracture or not.

Avulsion Fracture - Common Causes Behind it

I am 42 a serving soldier, recently met with an accident and sustained injury to Rt knee thereby not able to hold weight. Presently on 28 days sick leave with knee immobilizer without any medication. Underwent MRI Scan and the report revealed "multifocal marrow contusion oedema with significant synovial effusion, Gd II/III tear ACL and Gd II/III tear of MCL with associated fluid along medial meniscus-capsular attachment and associated myocellulitis. Dr. advised as follows :- ACL/MCL Rupture - Adv Operation. Request provide a second opinion and further course of action that will be required to cure my knee to normalcy. Please provide duration of treatment/mode of surgery/likely time to recover fully etc. Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello. You have injured your anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament along with medial meniscus also. Cruciate and collateral ligament injuries can give rise to knee instability and significant pain also. Weight bearing will be a problem as you are experiencing. Most tears of ACL are complete or near complete (grade 3). Multiple ligament injury usually requires early surgical intervention as your doctor has adviced. The torn ligament is replaced by a tissue graft so that it can regenerate again. This procedure is performed arthroscopically, with minimal incision. Braces are given to prevent knee instability. Anti inflammatory drugs and rehabilitation programme (exercises) will help you regain your stength. But surgery might be unavoidable. Takes around 6 months time for full recovery.

I am a 19 year old male. I had arthroscopic meniscus repair surgery done on my left meniscus for a buckle handle tear. It's now been 6 months yet there is a grinding sound in that meniscus. Dear lybrate-user, impropet posture leads to pain. Try to maintain correct posture, whenever you feels pain, apply diclofenac ointment for about 20 minutes, apply heat to. Get relief quickly. Do back strengthening excercises to gain strength in muscles.

It should be excessive exertion to the joint and muscle. You should reduce the practice time for sometime and do the knee, hip and ankle strengthening exercises. And take calcium tablet for 1 to 2 month.
