Avoid having mangoes. If you wish, you can have 1 mango in a day. Switch to fruits like Apple, Pear, Blueberry, Avocado, Apricot. Instead of regular ones, go for light veggies. Have rice without starch. Besides yoga, try aerobics for fast weight loss.

Hello, I am 22 years old. I do exercise daily. I go to gym and running every alternate day. I take ashwagandha and gokshura tablets for muscle strength. I also take multivitamin and fish oil supplements after lunch. So doctor is it good to take these many supplements at this age and if not then which supplements can I continue and which ones do I discard. thank you.

Neurologist,
Hi, food is the best medicine. Why take supplements when you can eat a well balanced meal? Your 22. You'll be fine without supplements. Try staying away from processed foods- the pizzas, burgers, sodas, energy drinks, canned foods, processed meats- to name a few.

Spondylitis - Can Non Surgical Methods Help You?

FIPP ( UK ), DA, MBBS
Pain Management Specialist, Navi Mumbai
Spondylitis - Can Non Surgical Methods Help You?

Spondylitis includes swelling of the vertebra. It happens because of wear and tear of the ligament and bones found in your cervical spine, which is in your neck. While it is to a great extent because of age, it can be brought on by other reasons too. Side effects incorporate pain and stiffness starting from the neck to the lower back. The spine's bones (vertebrae) get fused, bringing about an unbending spine. These changes might be mellow or extreme, and may prompt a stooped-over posture. Some of the non-surgical methods to treat spondylitis are as follows-

  1. Exercise based recovery/physiotherapy: Your specialist may send you to a physiotherapist for treatment. Non-intrusive treatment helps you extend your neck and shoulder muscles. This makes them more grounded and at last, relieves pain. You may neck traction, which includes using weights to build the space between the cervical joints and decreasing pressure on the cervical disc and nerve roots.
  2. Medications: Your specialist may prescribe you certain medicines if over-the-counter medications do not work. These include:
    1. Muscle relaxants, for example, cyclobenzaprine, to treat muscle fits
    2. Opiates, for example, hydrocodone, for pain relief
    3. Epileptic medications, for example, gabapentin, to ease pain created by nerve damage
    4. Steroid infusions, for example, prednisone, to decrease tissue irritation and diminish pain
  3. Home treatment: In case your condition is less severe, you can attempt a couple of things at home to treat it:
    1. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, for example, acetaminophen or a calming medication, for example, Advil or Aleve.
    2. Use a warming cushion or an ice pack on your neck to give pain alleviation to sore muscles.
    3. Exercise routinely to help you recover quickly.
    4. Wear a delicate neck prop or neckline to get transitory help. In any case, you shouldn't wear a neck brace for temporary pain relief.
  4. Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment used to mitigate back and neck pain. Little needles, about the extent of a human hair, are embedded into particular points on the back. Every needle might be whirled electrically or warmed to improve the impact of the treatment. Acupuncture works by prompting the body to deliver chemicals that decrease pain.
  5. Bed Rest: Severe instances of spondylitis may require bed rest for close to 1-3 days. Long-term bed rest is avoided as it puts the patient at danger for profound vein thrombosis (DVT, blood clots in the legs).
  6. Support/brace use: Temporary bracing (1 week) may help get rid of the symptoms, however, long-term use is not encouraged. Supports worn for a long time weaken the spinal muscles and can increase pain if not continually worn. Exercise based recovery is more beneficial as it reinforces the muscles.
  7. Lifestyle: Losing weight and eating nutritious food with consistent workouts can help. Quitting smoking is essential healthy habits to help the spine function properly at any age. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pain management specialist.

You should include more iodine-rich foods like fish, seeds and fish oil to get essential iodine. Most carbohydrates from fruits, vegetables, whole grains such as brown rice, rolled oats. Proteins with a minimum of animal products but more of vegetable proteins. A good breakfast to keep the metabolism working and to avoid cravings and take small and frequent meal. I am getting lazy day by day. I want a fit body but I am so slim so please give me some medicines name that can I use.
Hello Lybrate User, If you want to gain weight, then it is very important that you do it right. Binging on soda and donuts may help you gain weight, but it can destroy your health at the same time. If you are underweight, then you want to gain a balanced amount of muscle mass and subcutaneous fat, not a bunch of unhealthy belly fat. Therefore, it is absolutely very important to eat mostly healthy foods even if you are trying to gain weight. Here are food groups and few tips to gain weight, follow this - * You need to eat more calories than your body burns in order to gain weight. Aim for 300-500 calories per day above your maintenance level, or 700-1000 calories if you want to gain weight fast. * Protein forms the building blocks of your muscles. Eating sufficient protein is required to gain muscle weight instead of just fat. *High-protein foods include meats, fish, eggs,  many dairy products, legumes, nuts and others. * In order to gain weight, eat at least 5 meals per day and make sure to eat plenty of fat, carbs and protein. * Don’t drink water before meals. This can fill your stomach and make it harder to get in enough calories. * Drink milk. Drinking whole milk to quench thirst is a simple way to get in more high-quality protein and calories. Get enough sleep. Sleep for 7 to 8 hours. If possible take afternoon nap for half an hour. For better results and daily diet plan consult me privately. Take care.

Processed Foods - Why They Are Harmful for You?

Certificate In Food / Nutrition

Processed Foods - Why They Are Harmful for You?

Do you like to eat processed foods, and gorge on them a lot to stay away from cooking? It is important for you to know that processed foods are bad for your health and it is best that you avoid consuming them. Although all food items we eat are mechanically processed in certain ways, chemical processing, which is the primary feature of processed food items, is hazardous for your health.

Here are the major reasons why you should not eat processed food items.

  1. Processed food contains high amounts of sugar and fructose corn syrup: It is a known fact that excessive consumption of sugar in any form is not good for your health. Processed food products are loaded with sugar in huge amounts and also contain high fructose corn syrup, which is equally harmful in excess. Sugar basically has empty calories, which contain no important nutrients. Sugar also has dreadful effects on your body metabolism and may lead to high triglycerides, increased cholesterol levels, insulin resistance, and excess accumulation of fat in your abdominal cavity and liver.
  2. Processed food is hyper rewarding in nature and over consumption gets likely: Processed food items, because of their high content of sweet and fat, become a sort of addiction for many people. The reward centers of your brain acknowledge them, and as a result, you develop a constant craving for such food stuff.
  3. Processed food contains harmful artificial ingredients: It is likely for you to not understand the names of ingredients, which processed foods are made of. This is because of the reason that maximum of these ingredients are not actually natural, but are artificial chemicals which get added for several purposes such as preservation, maintaining aroma and much more. These chemicals are associated with several harmful effects on your health. The common ingredients of highly processed foods include the following:
    • Chemical preservatives for preventing processed food from rotting
    • Chemical colourants, which induce attractive and unique colours to processed foods
    • Chemical flavors for giving specific flavours
    • Texturants for proving a particular, specific texture to processed foods

The hyper rewarding nature of processed food can lead to severe consequences in many people. It is possible for you to become addicted to processed foods, and lose total control over your consumption rate. This problem of addiction to processed fast foods is a major problem in today’s world. It is an important reason for obesity, which is a prominent health concern today all over the world.
