Diet contributes significantly in control of blood sugar. Please stop having milk/milk products/packaged or refined food of any kind/ stop sweets junk food etc. Stop rice at all. Decrease roti to 1 to 2 in whole day. Have lots and lots of fruits in breakfast and in evening 1hr before dinner. I have a question that a patient with diabetes having stroke what is the connection between diabetes n stroke?

I have a question that a patient with diabetes having stroke what is the connection between diabetes n stroke?
Our bodies need a hormone called insulin to turn sugar (from our food) into energy. If you have type 1 diabetes, your body does not produce insulin. If you have type 2 diabetes, your body does not make enough insulin. This means your body has difficulty absorbing the sugars from food. If diabetes is left untreated or uncontrolled it increases the risk of vascular disease (disease of the blood vessels). This is when your artery walls become hard and narrow. This increases the risk of stroke, particularly ischaemic stroke. People with diabetes are also more likely to have high blood pressure. This can also increase your risk of further strokes. If you have diabetes it is important to maintain healthy blood sugar levels to reduce your risk of having a stroke or second stroke.

May be she is having knee Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis can occur at any time of life but the incidence increases with age. It usually affects people over 40 years of age. There is no cure for osteoarthritis but the progression of the disease can be slowed and pain and disability reduced. Treatment options include: Healthy body weight: Maintaining a healthy body weight will reduce stress on the arthritic joints. Nutritional supplements Supplements such as glucosamine have been reported to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis and halt, or even reverse. So please try to take this supplement once a day. Exercise Exercise can assist with the maintenance of muscle strength and the mobility of arthritic joints. Activity at a level that does not cause pain is not thought to worsen osteoarthritis. Non weight-bearing exercises such as swimming or aqua jogging in a heated pool may be beneficial. Range-of-motion and stretching exercises will help maintain the maximum possible movement in the joint. Stretching will help maintain or restore flexibility to the joint’s muscles and tendons. You can apply cold or heat several times a day to reduce your knee pain. Just remember to cover the cold pack with a towel and keep your heating pad at a low setting to avoid burning your skin. Whether you use heat or cold, remove it after 20 to 30 minutes. If the knee is swollen or sore, the following positions and activities you should avoid until knee pain and swelling resolve: Squatting Kneeling Twisting and pivoting See a Physiotherapist for detail exercises programme and manangement.

Mr. lybrate-user, If you have diabetes it is absolutely essential to get blood glucose under strict control with fasting closer to 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c% <6.8. If these levels are achieved, then your general health will remain in very good shape. Apart from taking appropriate treatment you will have to exercise regularly for at least 1 hour a day plus take a balanced and restricted diet. Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made out of maida, sweetened aerated drinks, sweet corn syrup containing products and highly processed packaged foods. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads. Fruits like water melon, orange, sweet lime, pomegranate, papaya, apple, pear and guava can be taken. But with good glucose control and only about 100 g a day.

Dear lybrate user with the limited amount of information provided it appears that your mother is suffering from diabetes. It could had been better had you provided us with latest fasting sugars, hba1c levels and any other recent relevant investigations along with the complete medication list if she is taking any. For the successful treatment of diabetes it is advised if you can start exercising on a regular basis preferably 30-45 minutes, diet modifications with low carbohydrate and high fibre diet along with medications as advised. Hope that solves your query. Anything more then please feel free to revert.

Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. I am 20 year old girl and recently I am diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and because of this I hv some issues in my genitalia as well. So pls suggest some ayurvedic remedy as I do not want any allopathy to further ruin my body. I will b very grateful to you. thanks.

Lybrate-user, hyperthyroidism is a condition where your thyroid gland is hyper active. That activity needs to be curtailed by anti thyroid drugs, radio active iodine or surgery. Unfortunately no other systems of medicine has any drugs or cure for this condition. Basically it is a condition that needs life long therapy. First by anti thyroid drugs and later with thyroxine hormone. You may definitely try ayurvedic methods, but I am afraid those will not be helpful. Thanks.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).
