Meet a pediatrician at your location to find cause of fever and get irrelevant investigations done. 5 days fever needs a blood investigation for confirming the source of infection.

Hello lybrate-user. Stargardt is one of the most common macular dystrophy wherein the gene responsible for removal of toxic metabolites is absent which results in accumulation of lipofuschin leading to damage to photoreceptors which are responsible for vision. Currently, there is no treatment for the disease. Wearing sunglasses and hats outdoors and blue-light blocking glasses when exposed to artificial light sources reduces the buildup of lipofuscin. Use of low vision aid also helps. Antioxidats, isotretinoin, gene therapy are all in the experimental stage for treatment modality. I would recommend you to see a ocular geneticist for any recent research update and for genetic counselling.

My child just 4 yrs old suffering with heavy loose motion, can't find any doctor on my location before 11 o clock please advice me

General Physician (AM)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh
Try giving him a little ginger as it reduces the formation of unpleasant gases in the stomach, thereby, helping in controlling loose motions, give a spoonful of mustard seeds with water as it brings remarkable change after sometime. Buttermilk is an excellent option as acid in it fights germs and bacteria and helps clear stomach. Consuming bananas with a little curd is the most traditional home remedy to stop loose and it works wonders. God bless.

My 1 year old son goes to day care. I am working and I have heard that day care/creche gives sleeping pills to babies. Please tell me how can I assure that my baby is not getting these pills. I will be back home by 6 in evening. He will be active for sometime and then have milk and sleep. Please help me to know that I am not risking my son's health.

Now this is an eye opener that babies do get sleeping pills in creches, you have to keep an eye on such creches and report to appropriate authorities if you have definite proof, better be careful and spend a day in the creche to find the daily routine going on there.

Which oil and of which brand should we use to massage for our new born baby ?Please tell.
Any mild oil which suits to baby. Which dose not cause red spots / rash on the skin. Massage helps for mental bonding. So it is to be done by parents. If no oil suits, it is ok with no massage also.

What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? M.Ch - Plastic Surgery
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Mumbai
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is for a woman experiencing health problems and/or extreme self-consciousness associated with very large, heavy breasts. The main complains are backache, neck pain and skin rashes or itching along with difficulty in carrying large breasts. The goal is to give the woman a more attractive contour with smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. She will then benefit from freedom of health problems associated with large breasts and an improved self-image.
Medical problems associated with very large breasts include back and neck pain caused by the excessive weight, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Bra straps may leave shoulder indentations. Large, heavy breasts also contribute to poor posture, and can interfere with normal daily activities such as exercise. Excessive breast size may also lead to a decreased sense of attractiveness and self-confidence.

THE PROCEDURE
Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital. The surgery removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple.
Incisions are made around the pigmented nipple-areolar complex and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple-areolar complex is moved upward to the desired location. The incisions are covered with a light dressing.
Afterward, the breasts are placed in a surgical bra that will hold them symmetrically during initial healing. Initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with oral medications. Scars will fade in 6-18 months. Surgery will likely reduce, but not eliminate the ability to breast-feed.

RECOVERY: WHAT TO EXPECT
When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, breast reduction is a safe procedure. Nevertheless, as with any surgery, there is always a possibility of complications, including bleeding, infection, or reaction to the anesthesia. Some patients develop small sores around their nipples after surgery; these can be treated with antibiotic creams. You can reduce your risks by closely following your physician’s advice both before and after surgery.
Much of the swelling and bruising disappears in the first few weeks following the surgery. Breasts may appear slightly mismatched, or have unevenly positioned nipples. Their new shape will be apparent within 6 months to a year, and will depend on hormonal fluctuations, weight changes and pregnancy.
Although your surgeon will make your scars as inconspicuous as possible, some permanent scarring is inevitable. Smokers are more likely to experience poor healing and wider scars. The scars will be red and lumpy in the months following the surgery, but the redness will fade and in time the scars will be less obvious.

ABILITY TO BREASTFEED
Because the surgery removes many of the milk ducts leading to the nipples, breast-feeding may no longer be an option.
Some patients may experience a permanent loss of feeling in their nipples or breasts. Rarely, the nipple and areola may lose their blood supply and the tissue will die. (The nipple and areola can usually be rebuilt, however, using skin grafts from elsewhere on the body.)

THE END RESULT
Breast reduction produces the most dramatic results of all plastic surgeries. It ends the physical discomfort or large breasts and makes your body appear more evenly proportioned, and clothes fit better. Your new image will take some getting used to, as much as you desired the change. Give yourself—and your family and friends—time to adjust to the new you and, like most women, you will enjoy the benefits.

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

“Be true to your teeth, they won’t be false to you.”

  1. Brushing :
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Night brushing is very important, because during sleep our mouth is at rest so there are more chances of accumulation of bacteria which cause further cavities and leads to disturbance in the oral cavity.
  •  Follow a proper brushing technique.

    2. Use a good fluoridated toothpaste with a right toothbrush. Toothpaste should have 1000ppm of fluoride and toothbrush should have a small and narrow head with soft bristles.

    3. Flossing :

  • Flossing helps to remove food stuck in between your teeth.
  • It can be done daily or 2-3 times a week.
  • Waxed dental flosses available in market are of Oral B, Colgate.

    4. Interdental Brush:

  • If the spaces between the teeth are wide, you can use an interdental brush.

    5. Oral Irrigation:

  • Now-a-days, a new dental aid is added which helps to clean the teeth, interdental areas, inside the gums and below the crowns more easily.
  • It is also known as dental “Water flosser” or “Oral irrigator” available in brands like waterpik, panasonic etc.

    6.  Drink plenty of water and rinse after every meal.

    7. Clean your tongue surface daily.

    8. Pit and Fissure Sealants:

  • The grinding teeth in a person mouth erupt at 12-16 years of age. They have deep grooves and pits in which food gets stuck. A Sealant is applied to these teeth which makes the grooves shallow and prevents food and bacteria from getting into the teeth and causing decay

    9 .Whitening - Home Remedies :

  • Add a pinch of baking soda in drinking water and rinse twice a day.
  •  Consume strawberries once a day or crushed strawberries applied to teeth helps as teeth whitener.

10.Visit your dentist every 6 months and get your scaling (cleaning) and polishing  done.

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
She need 1400calories per day divided in six three hrly interval self feedings. Giving special powder from market will spoil further. Firstly she must eat by her self. This is possible if you cook at home and put the food in front of her. No wonder she may remain hungry. By one to one and half child learn to eat by homself.

FIRST FORTY FIVE DAYS AND TRADITIONS.

We welcome our bundle of joy with old, washed, sun dried clothes as they are almost sterile. New clothes are probably handled by many and may be infected. The breast feeding is started with the help of young unmarried girl. This educates the girl about this AMRIT SAVEN. Mother is given ajwayan water which helps to lactate. On the sixth day bua does the ceremony of chatti by giving bath and putting on new clothes to baby. By sixth day the umbilical cord falls and there after the baby should be given a bath. On the occasion of chatti mother is given all kind of foods and after that she is supposed to have everything including all fruits, vegetables and dal, then ladoos or panjiri rich in ghee, dry fruits. These help mother for extra calories and minerals especially calcium and iron required postpartum. In this ceremony Bua plays an important role and rewarded with lots of gifts by bhabhi for the hard work she has been doing and will do after that, till 45 days. During these crucial 45 days outsiders are not allowed to get in mother?s room as people coming from outside may infect the child . The child is never left alone, a knife or a match boxes is kept besides baby, it is a primitive method to save the baby from animals and strangers. The God (baby and mother) has come and the duo should be prayed (taken care) and not do pooja or attend functions
