Rainbow Meal Plate!

Colour plays a unique role in daily life. There is color everywhere. Our day starts with bright yellow rays of the sun, trees welcome the day with vibrant green light. There is color everywhere from the dress we wear to the place we live in. Why not our meals be colourfull. A rainbow meal plate not only looks beautiful but also keeps you healthy. Every color carries a specific vibration with it and that will affect our systems (especially endocrine system). In this article, we will discuss in detail about VIBGYOR foods and their effect on our systems.

  • Red: It is one of the primary colors. Red color has its effect on adrenal glands. This color has its effect on survival, safety, and tribe. Red foods help to improve immunity as they are rich in vitamin c. Vitamin c also helps to support structures like teeth, bones, and skin. Lycopene is the phytonutrient present in red foods. The color red is obtained to a fruit or vegetable because of this phytonutrient. There are studies that show that lycopene has anti-cancer properties. Examples: watermelon, apples, pomegranates, strawberries, beetroot, red cabbage, red onion etc.
  • Orange: It is the color of creativity. Orange has its effect on the reproductive system. It codes for productivity, creativity, and emotions. Orange color foods are rich in beta-carotene. It is also one of the phytonutrients. Beta-carotene helps in cell replication and supports reproductive health. Examples: carrots, orange bell peppers, orange etc.
  • Yellow: Yellow connects with one of the five elements of earth that is the fire. Yellow colored foods affect digestive systems and this color codes for power, energy, and transformation. These foods help to control excessive acid production in stomach and aids in the better digestion of foods. Lemon squeezed in water is an excellent tonic for the liver. Examples: lemon, pineapple, banana, ginger etc.
  • Green: Green is the color of love. Green colored foods help in proper functioning of the heart. This color codes for love, compassion, and gratitude. Green colored foods are rich in vitamin k which helps in blood clotting, thereby preventing blood loss during any injury. Vitamin k also reduces homocysteine levels in the blood. Homocysteine is one of the contributors to heart diseases. Examples: leafy greens, wheatgrass, kiwi, honeydew melon, pear etc.
  • Blue: Blue is the color of truth. Blue foods have an effect on thyroid functioning. This color codes for voice, authenticity, and choice. There are very fewer foods with this color. Blue foods are rich in iodine. Examples: sea plants like noori, kelp, agar, spirulina
  • Indigo: It is the color of insight. Indigo colored foods help in brain functioning. This color codes for insight, reflection, and visualization. The phytonutrients present in these foods are called anthocyanins. These foods help in better cognition. There are studies that show that blueberries help in improving cognition. Examples: blueberries, black currants, black apple (kala jamun), blackberries etc.
  • Violet: This is a highly spiritual color. The foods rich in this color will affect pineal gland. This color codes for purpose, soul, and connection. White colored fruits and vegetables will have an effect on this system. These foods help in cleansing and maintaining circadian rhythm. Examples: garlic, onion cauliflower, cabbage.

Now we know the importance of color in our food. So, make your plate as colorful as possible to nourish your systems as well as to tap into your senses. Enjoy every color of life. Bring out the child in you to play with colorful food.

4 Foods You Must Eat During PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)!

Symptoms of PMS include moodiness, bloating and headache. All it takes is one symptom to crop up for the whole body to go down. While environmental changes and preventive measures play a crucial role in dealing with this condition, careful choice of food goes a long way in keeping PMS under control. Here is a list of some best and worst food for PMS:

Foods that are Good During PMS:

  1. Brussels sprouts, Artichokes and BroccoliThese veggies with high fibre content are known to ease bloating. Furthermore, the high water content of these veggies effectively deals with gas, discomfort, and puffiness. The idea is to refrain from foods with high sodium content that only contributes to the suffering. Sulfur-containing vegetables have tremendous health benefits, from maintaining healthy joints to boosting the immune system. Actually they help as anti inflamatory foods to help relieve abdominal and back aches. If a person is gassy and bloting eating high fibre will still worsen the situation. Instead eating soluble fibre foods which is obtained by sauteing the above vegetables is more helpful than raw versions.
  2. Quinoa, what berry and popcorn: These foods help to deal with a short temper which is a very common occurring of PMS. Some other good effects of a high carb diet such as these include fighting anxiousness, depression and maintain composure. Consuming whole grain on a daily basis also helps to keep the mood cheerful. This happens because of the added secretion of the feel good factor hormone called serotonin.
  3. BananaMany women tend to face sleep disturbances before the period sets in. A recent study at the John Hopkins University found that less sleep before the period makes a woman susceptible to cramps and discomfort. Banana contains melatonin. The latter helps the body maintain its natural rhythm.
  4. Eggs: The cravings during PMs can be very difficult to handle. It is therefore very important to start the day a very healthy breakfast. The right amount of protein and healthy fat present in an egg helps to keep the body energised throughout the day. Scrambled egg and an ounce of chicken is a perfect answer to PMs craving.

Some foods to avoid during PMS:

  1. Processed fats: Processed fat contains a lot of processed fats, sodium and salt. Processed fats make a woman puffy and increment bloating. Processed foods contain very high protein content that becomes very difficult for the body to process during PMS.
  2. Sugary foods: Craving for sugary food is pretty normal during PMS. However, too much sugar consumption during PMS fluctuate the blood sugar level. They also aggravate tension and mood swings. The latest study has found that refined sugar can disturb the immune system and creates a lot of fatigue in a woman.
  3. Caffeine: Restricting caffeine during the period can help prevent the cramps and bloating. Certain caffeine such as coffee, cigarettes and chocolate can aggravate breast tenderness, anxiety, and depression. What's more, they systematically create a craving for sweet and other caffeine-related stuff. A better alternative to caffeine during PMs is herbal and green tea, water and fruit juice.

Start eating timely meals, eat 3 servings of fruits daily. Try to eat a fruit along with your meals . Keep your stress levels low. Sleep for 8hra daily.

My Baby is 2 months old her weight gain has become less and my doc has prescribed lactodex hmf to be added in Mother’s milk n given. As milk my isn’t sufficient so can also give formula milk to my baby. Will there be side effects of giving formula and lactodex hmf.

Please try to improve your nutrition. Eat high protein and high fibre diet. Spinach, groundnut+sesameseed husk powder , egg, bread will improve your milk production. Also try pumping milk with breast pump, the more you pump the more you produce milk. May be you kid is finding difficult to empty your breast completely. Try all these along with formula, breast milk is always best when compared to formulas.

Start eating more vegetables and high quality protein from leans meats, beans , pulses and nuts . Choose complex carbs from Millets . Work out for 45 min a day .

Not suggested as it might cause weight gain . Instead opt for green leafy vegetables, whole grains and nuts to increase iron levels

Hi Sir, I am 6 feet tall. Married for last 1 and half year. After marriage my weight is increasing. I get tips like avoided eating at night. Or skip dinner go for salad fruits etc. And some one suggested to take Amway shake at night instead of dinner. Is it rite. Should I ho for this. Any extra suggestions.

Do not skip meals or eat fruits and salsa in dinner as you end up bloating early morning. Instead eat whole grains like millets twice a day, eat salads as mid morning snacks, have nuts, fruits and at least 4 servings of vegetables daily. 45 min of physical activity is must .Hope this helps you .
