Dear lybrate-user, I can understand your anxiety. But to evaluate your sleeplessness you must visit a doctor in person. He'll evaluate all parameters including diabetes status. In the meanwhile please increase physical activities which will help you sleep better. Meditation in form of art of living, vipassana will surely help. Regards

Mr. Lybrate-user, to reduce uric acid, certain foods should be avoided like red meat, organ meat, fishes like herring, shell fish, scallops, haddock, trout, sardines, salmon, mussels, mushrooms, high fat milk products, sweetened aerated drinks, alcohol etc. The varieties fishes is mentioned now you have to decide which one you are actually consuming. My friend has diabetes since 1 year and he is only 19 years old what can I do to cure his blood sugar?

My friend has diabetes since 1 year and he is only 19 years old what can I do to cure his blood sugar?
Do let me know your hba1c value? also you need to provide me your daily food intake details. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed: take high fiber prescribed diet which includes soluble fibre like apple, isabgol etc. Get more physical activity. eat a balanced diet which includes whole grains and excludes all refined products like maida as prescribed. if you're overweight, diabetes prevention may hinge on weight loss. Every pound you lose can improve your health, and you may be surprised by how much. Participants in one large study who lost a modest amount of weight around 7 percent of initial body weight and exercised regularly reduced the risk of developing diabetes by almost 60 percent.

Rebecaji, If you are on treatment for hypothyroidism, and if TSH is around 3 to 4 mU/L, then all the symptoms will be in check. As regards pain in left iliac region, it difficult to say why it is occurring. But if you are consuming a lot of so called chinese food, then it may be the cause, as it has aginomotoo (monosodium glutamate) in considerable quantity. It is better avoid or prepare at home. Thanks.

Your diabetes and thyroid seems controlled for now but the requirement keeps changing to your body needs. So keep track of your sugars atleast once a week, and tsh atleast once in 3 months to know if your current doses are optimum for you.

Mr. Lybrate-user, all the values shown are within normal limit. This shows good blood sugar control as well as hypothyroidism control. You should continue the same treatment and once 3 to 4 months check hba1c% and tsh levels. The oral anti diabetic drug that is being taken is a well known established drug giving specific results. Where as tab bgr - 34 so called ayurvedic anti diabetes drug, is a combination of some herbal medicines, considered to be useful in reducing sugar. It has not been tried in any human beings. There is no clinical study at all. According to the originators of the drug it was only tried in mice, where it showed 67% success rate, which is just as good as a placebo. Plus since there is no human study, I will not be able to recommend that drug to any person.

I have hyperthyroidism I'm using thyronorm 50 mcg tablets but there is no improvement in my weight gain I'm under weight. What should i do?

CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
lybrate-user, If you are on thyroxine tablets (50 mcg), means you have hypothyroidism. It would be better if you had given total results of thyroid assay. Usually hypothyroidism leads to increased weight. Hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss. But the treatment is anti-thyroid drugs. Thanks.

My dad is having uric acid. So I want to know what are the things/food he needs to avoid to have a better health?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain in joints.
