If you've had or want to start having sex — vaginal, anal, or oral — with a new partner, without a condom, it's a good idea to get tested. Here's how long after exposure we can get a reliable test result: 2 weeks: gonorrhea and chlamydia (and a pregnancy test too!) 1 week to 3 months: syphilis.

Signs That Indicate Deficiency Of Iodine!

Signs That Indicate Deficiency Of Iodine!

Iodine deficiency is a very common problem worldwide and is a major cause of thyroid disorders. The entire mechanism of how deficiency of iodine causes hypothyroidism is a complex explanation. So we will stick to layman terms and keep it simple. Deficiency of iodine causes a range of diseases which, altogether are termed as iodine deficiency diseases. When an individual does not receive enough iodine, the thyroid gland increases in size because the thyroid is unable to make enough hormones that are necessary for the body. This causes the development of a condition called goitre. Iodine deficiency in pregnant and lactating women is a serious concern because it is the most popular cause of preventable mental retardation.

There can be situations where a person might not be getting adequate iodine, but may not show any symptoms of iodine deficiency. The easiest way to know if a person has iodine deficiency is to get a urine test done or a blood test done to check the level of iodine in the body. Thyroid is a very important gland and is responsible for the following:

  1. Controlling the metabolic rate
  2. Boosting synthesis of proteins
  3. Regulating blood flow and heart rate
  4. Promoting brain development and linear growth in children
  5. Helping in normal reproductive functioning in adults

Here are the most common signs that can tell you that your thyroid is not functioning properly due to deficiency of iodine.

  1. You feel lethargic and tired most of the times and suffer from weakness constantly (due to reduced metabolic rates).
  2. You may start feeling cold, even when it is visibly warm for the others around you.
  3. You may have difficulty in concentrating and might have a poor memory (due to slowed down mental processes)
  4. You may experience unusual weight gain.
  5. You may become more prone to depressive periods.
  6. You may notice your skin becoming thick and puffy or your face becoming puffier than usual.
  7. You may suffer from hair loss.
  8. You may start having frequent problems of constipation.
  9. Your skin might feel really dry.
  10. You might feel your heart beating slower.
  11. Visible signs would include enlargement of the chin and neck area (caused due to enlargement of your thyroid gland).

With proper treatment and change in diet, iodine deficiency disorders can be prevented with ease.

10 Best Natural Supplements for Allergies

Allergy is a response of the immune system. It only occurs when a harmless substance attacks the body and it tries to attack it by creating antibodies as a triggering response. While there could be a lot of triggering agents, some of the basic ones include dust, food, and dander. Conventional allergies can be easily treated with medicines and environment changes whereas chronic allergies need medical attention. Either way there exists some great natural supplements which when applied can immediately deal with seasonal and occasional allergies:

  1. Probiotics: Natural probiotic supplements include kombucha, yogurt, sauerkraut etc. They are known to assist the immune system and can alter the course of allergy. The fermentation of probiotic produces good bacteria that assist the immune system.
  2. Quercetin: It is a bioflavonoid that can be found in beans, onions, red wine, leafy vegetables, apples, etc. They have anti-oxide and anti-inflammatory properties can give allergies a run for their money. Research suggests that quercetin contains certain substances that successfully block allergy creating elements.
  3. Vitamin D: Vitamin D plays get strokes in fighting allergies and setting the immune system right. They can successfully stop the development of allergies in the body. The body fetches the right level of vitamin D with a 10 minutes walk in the sunlight.
  4. Stinging Nettle: This is a plant that effectively counters allergy by fighting with symptoms such as a headache, anaphylaxis, migraines etc. The anti-inflammatory properties of this herb fight allergy symptoms instantly.
  5. Butterbur: This again is a herb that contains medicinal properties and can successfully counter allergic symptoms. A study found that butterbur is as effective as a certain allergic medicine such as Zyrtec. Another good thing about this supplement is the fact that they do not put a person to sleep like other allergic drugs.
  6. Steam inhalation: When hot steam is accompanied with eucalyptus oil, tea tree, rosemary oil, myrtle oil and inhaled for about 20 minutes, instant relief is expected. For patients with chronic allergy, this natural supplement can be tried twice in a day.
  7. Lemon oil: Lemon oil is one of the versatile agents for treating allergies. It fixes the immune system, drains lymphatic fluid and detoxifies liver toxins. They can also be used as a disinfectant for washing clothes and home.
  8. Honey: Honey is one of the most tested agents for countering allergy. They can create greater tolerance to pollens and is widely considered as one of the most effective long-term solutions for chronic allergy patients.

Mam, I was pregnant then I took the abortion pills i.e, Mifegest kit. I took mifepristone tablet at 12. 00 am and 24 hrs later two misoprostol tablet. I started bleeding after few hours. Then I took 2two misoprostol orally. After few hours my bleeding has kind of stopped. What should I do? I do not want to physically go to doctor, what if my abortion is not completed what should I do then?

MD - Homeopathy, BHMS
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Most women will start bleeding 1-4 hours after using misoprostol; however, there are individual variations.  Every woman’s body is different. In some exceptional cases the bleeding can occur 24 hours to 72 hours of taking the misoprostol. It is important to know that if there is no bleeding or only light bleeding after 72 hours, it means the abortion did not work. Bleeding is usually heavier than a period and often accompanied by clots. The heaviest bleeding typically occurs 2-5 hours after using misoprostol and usually slows within 24 hours. Some women may pass clots days or even weeks later. This is common and is not dangerous, if there are no symptoms of a complication.
