Decrease milk intake. Keep her hungry. Semisolids should be given 3 times a day. No connection with mom pregnancy.

You should not confuse " possetting" ( normally one by all babies where in they bring out food as soon as being fed) with real vomiting . IF you give bottle feed you stop it immediately and give only breastfeed and other feds if you must give , with a cup and spoon. Whereas the " possetting " needs only proper burping after ( and during ) fees and lay down on left side after feed

How Healthy is Your Kid? Things That You Should Be Aware of

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics, CRT in Autism

How Healthy is Your Kid? Things That You Should Be Aware of

Your kid's weight should be a real matter of concern for you. In today's world, the number of obese and overweight children is increasing at an alarming rate. Gaining excess weight and being obese poses the risk of numerous health problems in children. The disorders are diabetes, heart diseases, asthma and many others. Obese children face a lot of problems in their social lives, are teased and neglected. This causes lack of self-confidence and self-esteem in obese children. They develop a negative body image and depression. However, by taking proper measures, your child can regain normalcy. Eating disorders may also occur in obese children, and they are also likely to develop substance abuse habits.

The major medical conditions that an obese child can face are:

  1. Type 2 diabetes
  2. Asthma
  3. High blood pressure
  4. High cholesterol
  5. Problems in bones and joints
  6. Sleep disorders
  7. Liver and gall bladder disorders
  8. Depression

Is your kid having the right weight?
The growth rate in children varies with time and stages. Hence, it is difficult to tell whether your kid is overweight. You should measure your child's BMI to find your answer. BMI or body mass index uses the height and weight measurements of a person to calculate the amount of body fat and is used for screening obesity problems. BMI is effective in general and provides accurate data. In some cases, it may be  imperfect. In case your kid has a high BMI for age measurement, other assessments are made to detect obesity. The assessments include skin thickness measurement, diet evaluation, physical activity and family history.

How to check obesity in your kid?
In order to rectify obesity, a lot of changes must be made in a child's regular habits and schedule.

  1. Food patterns: You should feed your child a wide range of fruits and  green, red, orange and yellow vegetables. Having a proper breakfast reduces chance of obesity and should not be avoided. Focus on healthy cereals and fruits. Other than reducing the intake of chocolates, desserts and fried junk food, food items containing hidden sugar should be avoided. Go for low sugar food items. The meal times of your child should be fixed, and this pattern should be followed. Also limit having outside food. Avoid foods, which contain trans fats.
  2. Physical exercise: Your child should be involved in regular physical exercise or workout. Let them go out of home and exert themselves, as this would keep them fit and away from obesity. For obese children, exercise will burn calories and help in losing weight.

Your kid's weight should really concern you. You should avoid your kid getting obese and make him/her follow all necessary precautions. In case you suspect obesity in your kid, get the BMI measured. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

My 5 years old daughter is having burning sensation while passing urine? Does she have a urine infection? Also she is having frequent urination with only drops of urine coming out?

MRCPCH
Pediatrician,
The only way knowing whether it is a urine infection is by testing urine for nitrites, leucocytes, blood, pus cells and urine culture. In the meanwhile, make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids.

I prefer to bottle feed at night, if I feed 3 times in bottle should I sterilise the bottle every 3 times or just once?

I prefer to bottle feed at night, if I feed 3 times in bottle should I sterilise the bottle every 3 times or just once?
Hello lybrate-user, I know its very tedious to sterlize in night, may hamper your sleep and rest which you required at this point of time. Try to sterlize once in between or can keep 2 bottles with you to reduce the load of sterlizing.

My daughter aged 2 months, is suffering from scabies. Our doctor has prescribed mocin ointment, crotorax lotion and cyphon drop. But the scabies recurring again and again. Now please advice me and whether cyphon drops are safe. Please advice.

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Gurgaon
First confirm the diagnosis of scabies as paedatric scabies has different picture than adults. Someone in your house must be having scabies for this transmission to happen. At one month of age, the only approved drug is colloidal sulphur (8% to 10%) in white vaseline to be applied for 3 continuous days with 12 hours gap. Nothing else is needed.

Hi I have baby who is one year old. Yesterday he was having red throat. So doctor suggested him timnik, ibugesic and FloraBS but today he is having severe cough. Please suggest what can be given in severe Dry cough.

A one year old, with severe cough should not be taken lightly. Please have the child reviewed by your doctor again as the baby might need some antibiotic specially if he has fever also. Other wise in mild viral infections, the above mentioned drug are usually enough. I prefer giving paracetamol to a child rather than ibugesic syrup for fever and pain.

My child has a fever for last 3 days and I check all that but he not fine how can I cure from tht fever.
Your description is incomplete which lack in range of temp and associated symptoms with fever. Fever is not disease but it is a symptom of disease. You may give one dose of paracetamol (125 mg) for the time being for fever and consult pediatrician.
