What is symptoms of mouth cancer. I have a problem of mouth ulcer since last 2 years but not on one place it turns in...
If the same problem has persisted and recurred on multiple occasions, it is unlikely to be cancer. However it may be precancerous, and you need to share pics, for me to be able to tell. Mouth cancer generally presents as a non healing, progressive ulcer in the mouth, change in speech and swallowing habits, painless swelling in the neck, loosening of teeth, fungating ulcer on the skin etc.

Hi My mother of aged 69 years suffering from final stage stomach metastatic adeno carcinoma Ascites fluid collecting in abdomen very quickly We thrice removed of fluid by paracentesis in month about 2 to 3 liter each time. As per oncology advise we are not gone for chemotherapy treatment because of age factor. How often paracentesis can be done and how much water can remove each time?

DM - Oncology, MBBS, MD - Medicine
Oncologist, Mumbai
Yes, definitely elderly do very bad with chemotherapy and should be given only in patients having good performance status and nutrition status. In those who has both of these on lower side should have some other options which does not have much side effects. If you don't treat primary disease then frequency to collect fluid in abdomen will start increasing may be you need to take it out so often like 3 to 4 days.

Does it make sense to get a comprehensive check done for cancer markers once you reach the age of 50?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Cancer is a disease predominantly of age group beyond fifty years and most often by this age the natural immunity to fight cancer goes down and the likelihood of getting cancers increases. hence this the actual age where the comprehensive cancer screening becomes a must and tests like PSA, CEA , need to be done along with head and neck examination, chest x ray, ultrasound abdomen, stool and urine examination ,CA125 ,pap smear and mammography( in females,) should be done.

Hi. please do not apply all these kind of stuff. I've seen patients in worst conditions after these methods. Kindly visit a surgeon nearby to diagnose your disease and evaluate it properly. Thanks.

I am 40 year old and use rajni Gandhi without tobacco and now my mouth not fully open it should be cancer tell me.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, keeping zarda or pan masala in mouth can cause injury leading to fibrosis. Even injury from sharp teeth or ill fitting dentures may cause fibrosis, leading to a premalignant condition called submucosal fibrosis where the mouth opening is reduced as checked by number of fingers easily going in mouth between teeth. You must quit any kind of addiction, check with oncologist or ENT surgeon for any ulceration or even white or red patches, and consume antioxidants and preparation with lycopene. Do not ignore as cancer is increasing very fast.

I'm 24 years old female. Got married recently. I'm getting water from my breast. May I know what could be the reason. Isn't health problem?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

There is a little secretion in the breasts from the sixteenth week of pregnancy which keeps the ducts open and ready to function. You have not mentioned about pregnancy. This can be treated by homoeopathy. Consult privately.Rs 149/

Dear lybrate user with the limited amount of information available we can clearly understand your concern about prostate issues. The symptoms as you have explained looks in favour of urinary infection. It will be advisable if you can get a urine routine examination and culture sensitivity done so that antibiotics can be given as per sensitivity profile. Kindly meet a urologist in person so that he can examine and assess you in person and advise accordingly. Hope this solves your query. Anything more then please feel free to revert.

Tips to Prevent Breast Cancer

MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecolog, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Hyderabad
Tips to Prevent Breast Cancer

One of the things that Shannen Doherty and Rita Wilson, the wife of Tom Hanks, have in common, apart from their fame is that both were affected by breast cancer. No matter how normal a person may seem, breast cancer can strike anyone. In fact, it usually strikes one in eight women. So, it makes good sense to know what it can appear as!

Breast cancer makes up a rather big amount of the general cancer cases as 15% of the cancer cases which are reported on a yearly basis are usually breast cancer cases. That being said, there are quite a few things which can be done in order to reduce a person’s risk to breast cancer.

Prevention is Prudent-

  1. Get Fit: The first thing which should be done is that a reasonable level of fitness should be maintained. Many studies have found that if a person is significantly heavier than her recommended weight, she is at a far great risk to develop all sorts of cancer and breast cancer, in particular, than a person who is able to keep her weight in check. The difference in cancer risk rates is about 40%. This is because a greater amount of fat leads to more estrogen being produced, which increases the risk of breast cancer.

  2. Quit Smoking: While most people associate smoking as something which increases the risk of cancer to the lungs and are not aware that it increases the risk of breast cancer, too. So, the best solution is to kick the habit!

  3. Get Off the Pill: Once a woman crosses past her mid-thirties, she should try to avoid relying on birth control pills to reduce the risk of pregnancy. This is because these pills have an effect which increases the risk of breast cancer, which heightens as a woman gets older. As long as the woman cuts out the use of the pill, the risk quickly gets cut, as well.

  4. Get Regular Check Ups: While screening for breast cancer by making use of mammograms does not cut the risk of it, the screening helps detect breast cancer early if it does exist. As a result, a woman has a much better chance of fighting breast cancer. So, a woman who is past the age of forty should try to have a mammogram on an annual basis with the frequency of the same increasing as she gets older. However, it is to be kept in mind that going for a mammogram too often is also not a good idea as the tests themselves pose risks of DNA changes.

Women all around the world are susceptible to breast cancer. While there isn’t a 100% chance of avoiding it, taking care of yourself and leading a fit and active lifestyle can significantly cut down your risk of contracting this condition. Remember, your health is in your hands, so the earlier you start, the better! If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Hello Dr. Can my wife take cervical cancer vaccine during breastfeeding. My son is 10 months old now and she will turn 30 by next year. We heard that vaccine to b taken before 30 years. Pls recommend?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, as such there is no harm in having cervical cancer vaccine, but why are you in so much hurry. You have to take such precaution unless there is severe indication or there are severe predisposing factors for cervical cancer formation. It is not a strict indication that cancer vaccine should be taken before 30 yrs. It can be taken at any age, but at the age of 30 cervix is more exposed to the insults, you can vaccinate your wife at your convenience.

Dear , please get urine test done either to confirm or rule out infection. It is likely that your father had chronic prostatitis before surgery and proper long term antibiotics. Secondly surgeon may not have completed the job thoroughly and may have left some prostate behind. Thirdly he may have developed postoperative stricture; narrowing of urethra which may need dilatation to put it right. Lastly he may have anal fissure due to passage of hard faeces which is giving him the trouble you mentioned.

Both breast pain. I am 39 years old. I also removed my uterus and right ovarian before two years.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
Both breast pain. I am 39 years old. I also removed my uterus and right ovarian before two years.
Breast pain is a common problem if it occurs before periods, but your uterus is removed so keep watch that it occurs for few days in a month. If so it happens due to hormonal changes, however if the pain stays all through the month or if you can feel some lump/swelling then you may need to do ultrasound examination of breasts. For pain you can take paracetamol tablets, also wearing a well fitting cotton bra may help.

I am a seventeen year old girl. I have some kind of translucent secretion from my breasts. I have not found any kind of lump in both the breasts and it's not painful either. I was just wondering where the actual problem lies and how can I heal the condition?

FICS, FCCP (USA), DNB (General Surgery), MS - General Surgery, MBBS
General Surgeon, Delhi
The discharge will be watery and will stain the clothing your wear. This is secretions of the glands in the breast under the effect of the hormonal changes that you are under going at puberty. They will disappear into your twenties. But a careful clinical and imaging examination of the breast is essential to detect something more sinister.

There are some lumps in my chest and armpits. Are they symptoms of breast cancer?

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS, FICS

It can not be said so because there are many causes of lumps in the chest/armpits. You need to be examined at least once so as to arrive at a diagnosis. Thanks.
