I hv Rheumatoid arthritis from the age of 28. Also having osteoarthritis in my knees. Is it curable or it will detoriate with age. I am now a women of 42 years of age. Pls suggest.

Ra is not curable but totally controllable. If you remain on optimum medicines with well controlled disease then it shouldn't progress. If you are not on adequate therapy, your joint continues to swell, then it can damage your joints.

Sir, I am 56 years working lady. I have to travel daily for 2 hours standing besides doing work at home that is also standing. Since morning I am feeling foot pain. After get up I cannot walk. I put feet in warm salted water and wear soft chappal. But when I remove chappal and walk then the same happens. Very irritating cannot concentrate on any work. Please suggest some remedy. I will be very thankful to you.

Stretch calves get a custom made insole. Hams stretching. Sports taping. Hot fomentation standing calf stretch stand away from a wall and put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day.

Hi I can understand your problem 1) avoid activities that make your symptoms worse 2) apply ice packs for 20 minutes thrice a day for 5 days. 3) start physiotherapy treatment as electrotherapy will reduce pain inflammation 4) exercise and mannual therapy will help in painfree movement. In next consultation describe your problem in detail and do share related reports and prescription if you have. Best wishes.

Hello, not every low back pain is sciatica. But if you say its sciatica then I believe you. Proper rehabilitation can cure sciatica completely. If it is due to disc herniation traction, electric modalities and exercises can do wonders. Many at times some conditions mimics sciatica. They are known as Pseudo sciatica. I hope you know the difference between the two before you come to any conclusion. Sciatica pain is heartening but can be cured if treated properly.

1. Drink plenty of water and other fluids 2. High fibre diet (green leafy vegetables) 3. Sitz bath - take a tub of warm water, add two spoons of salt and sit in that water in such a way that the anal area gets submerged. Do this at least twice daily.

Muscle Dystrophy - How Ayurvedic Remedies Can Help in Curing it?

Muscular dystrophy is a rare disorder which results in the atrophy or degeneration of muscles. This happens as the proteins required by the body to build and maintain muscles are not produced within the body in a normal manner. Muscular dystrophy mostly affects boys and develops in early adolescence although it can affect people much younger or much later in life. Ayurveda has some great treatments which can allay the symptoms and provide relief to patients afflicted with this disease.

Treatment for Muscle dystrophy in Ayurveda
With a degenerative disease like Muscle dystrophy, simple medication won’t be able to cure or relieve symptoms. Even with conventional medicines muscle dystrophy can’t be cured, but the symptoms can be reduced. Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to correcting the problems which include oral medications, food as well as exercises in the form of yoga.

Herbs

Herbs are a great way to put certain minerals within the body, which can help lessen the pain and symptoms. Some of the herbs which have been known to be effective in reducing pain and also helping with movement and day to day activities may include:

  1. Triphala
  2. Mansrohini
  3. Nirgundi
  4. Guduchi
  5. Ashwagandha and many others

However, there are no medications in readymade proportions which are specifically designed and prescribed according to the diagnosis of the patient. It also needs to be complemented with a proper diet also known as Mamsagni Rasayana.

Diet or Mamsagni Rasayana

This is a very tailored diet and supplement approach to create and put the required nutrients which will slow down the decay of muscles within the body and will also help build new muscle to slow down decay. These will include extracts from herbs which will be made into chemicals and then used to make dietary supplements.

Yoga and specialized physiotherapy exercises

Yogic postures combined with certain walking and standing postures performed over time can also help reduce the symptoms and lessen the rate of decay. Some of the exercises that are helpful for various activities are:

  1. Standing and movements: Padahastasana, Tad asana, Trikonasana, Vakrasana
  2. Sitting: Paschimottanasa, Vakrasana, Shashankasana
  3. To help with breathing: Ardha Shalabhasana, Pranayama, Bhramri Pranayama

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, it appears to be edema of the lower limbs. Should you not have any other specific symptoms apart from pain in the limbs, you can meet up a nephrologist at the earliest for further clinical assessment. Just make sure to take a heart healthy, balanced & anti-inflammatory diet, preferably Mediterranean. Try adding leafy greens, beans, pumpkin, grapes, watermelon, banana, beets, pineapple, garlic etc all to your diet. Restrict salt intake and foods that are processed, greasy, fatty, oily and also fast foods etc all. Follow dietary instructions as recommended by your doc specifically. If you require to stand or sit for a long time, do take frequent breaks, move around a little as convenient. At the same time, while sleeping, keep a pillow underneath your feet which shall help subside the swelling. You may also have to have a cardiology/ pulmonology opinion too, which your doc will suitably refer should it require. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.
