I am suffering from polio from 6 years and tell me what is the prevention and what is the control on this?

DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Rajkot
Once paralytic polio is established, it cannot be cured. It can be managed with physiotherapy just to prevent contractures of muscles. But it can definitely be prevented by vaccination since birth of a child including booster doses. With vaccination in india we have almost eliminated it.

Can migraine & varicose be treated by the elrctropathy for permanently. Give address of doctor near karol bagh. Who can treat it with guarantee & charitably.

MBBS
General Physician, Madhubani
There is nothing to be given with guarantee. Even now company are giving warrantee not guarantee. So for migraine you have to change your lifestyle. Prevent urself from going to the area which aggrevate migraine. Start morning walk. Do yoga. Eat less spicy food. Prevent gastritis. For varicose vein surgery is the only treatment or endogenous LASER.

Migraine cannot be cured. Avoid triggers. If certain foods or odors seem to have triggered your migraines in the past, avoid them. Reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake and avoid tobacco. In general, establish a daily routine with regular sleep patterns and regular meals. In addition, try to control stress. Exercise regularly. Regular aerobic exercise reduces tension and can help prevent migraines. If your doctor agrees, choose any aerobic exercise you enjoy, including walking, swimming and cycling. Warm up slowly, however, because sudden, intense exercise can cause headaches. Obesity is also thought to be a factor in migraine headaches, and regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight or lose weight.

Dear Mr. Lybrate-user. This may have happened because of high blood pressure. A brain haemorrhage must have occurred. The blood inside the brain has created a clot (infarct). Which may have caused this paralysis attack. Take homeopathic medicine lachesis 1m and arnica 1m (along with the allopathic medicine advised in the hospital. Two times daily for a week as a emergency medicine and then consult further for complete recovery.

When to Seek Medical Help for Epilepsy

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Sexologist, Mumbai
When to Seek Medical Help for Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a form of chronic disorder and it is characterized by recurrent seizures. The episodes of epileptic seizures may differ from person to person. These seizures could be a result of genetic disorder or a result of trauma or stroke. During a seizure, a patient may also experience symptoms of neurological disorders and sometimes lose consciousness.

Medical help for epilepsy
Epilepsy itself cannot be cured using medication, but proper medicines help in eliminating recurrent seizures. These medicines stabilize the electrical activity within the brain preventing seizures.

How effective is the medication for epilepsy?
The success of controlling seizures using medicines depends on the type and severity of the epilepsy. Medicines for epilepsy are usually very effective and may fully keep seizures under control. However, controlling seizures caused due to brain problems may be more difficult. Usually, epilepsy medicines can control seizures for a long period of time when they are taken regularly.

When is medical help needed?
The decision about when to start medicines for epilepsy is a tricky one. This is because a first seizure cannot confirm whether a person has an on-going epilepsy problem. A second seizure may occur after many years or may not happen at all. Prediction of seizures is also quite difficult.

The severity of seizures also indicates when to start medicines for treatment. In case a first seizure is quite severe, medication should be started at once. Some people have very mild seizures even though they may be recurring in nature, and medication can be avoided in this situation.

All the pros and cons must be thought over before starting medications for the treatment of epilepsy. It is advisable to wait for a second seizure and then start medications for treatment. In most cases, medication is started after a second seizure occurs, twelve months within the first seizure. You should always consult a doctor to know when you need to start taking medicines to treat the condition.

For making the most out of the medicines to control seizures, you should follow certain steps:

  1. You must take medications exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
  2. Before switching to generic versions of your medicines or before taking other prescribed medicines, you must consult your doctor.
  3. You should never stop taking the medicines.
  4. In case you experience enhanced depression, mood swings and suicidal thoughts, you should talk to your doctor immediately.
  5. In case you have migraine, you should let your doctor know so that he can prescribe you anti-epileptic medicines, which also prevent migraines.

Medicines cannot treat the underlying cause of epilepsy, but these help in controlling seizures and this is the most common symptom of epilepsy. Medication should be started at a proper time and must be continued without stopping.

For last 20 years ,(Age 42, Male) I am suffering from migraine. Probably once in a week it occurs. Usually I take vasograin. 1to 2 tab, some times up to 3 tab, with a gap of 4 to 5 hrs. Is any side effect for this medicine. Any other medicine available.

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Nagpur
You are just taking medications for an acute attack of migraine. Being only on such medications causes tolerance as a side effect. To be precise, the pain relieving effect of a single tablet of vasograin will diminish with time and you might need increased doses. The better alternative would be to start prophylaxis treatmnet with other medication which will prevent relapses of migraine. Also associated factors like psychological stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression e, hormonal and nutritional deficiencies need to be treated for an effective management and relapse prevention. Consult a headache specialist for treatmnet. You may consult me online for the same.
