Green tea contains small amounts of caffeine, but it is also loaded with powerful antioxidants called catechins, which are also believed to work synergistically with the caffeine to enhance fat burning although the evidence is mixed, there are many studies showing that green tea (either as a beverage or a green tea extract supplement) can help you lose weight.

Ayurveda and Weight Loss

Ayurveda or 'science of life' believes in a holistic approach to health and well-being. Lifestyles have changed with more of processed and refined food, less of natural food, reduced exercise, increased sedentary patterns, etc. With this, there is a growing incidence of obesity – both the age of onset and the severity of progression.

Ayurveda attributes good health to a balance between three elements – vaata, kapha, and pitta. The imbalance between the three leads to ill health, including obesity.

Weight loss, according to Ayurveda, includes a holistic approach with lifestyle changes, dietary changes, yoga asanas, and some Ayurvedic remedies.

Dietary changes: A number of herbs are used, which reduce fat accumulation, reduce triglyceride levels, improve insulin resistance, and improve fat-waist ratios.

  1. Have a lukewarm mixture of black pepper, lime juice, and honey first thing in the morning.
  2. Boil cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and fennel seeds; strain and drink throughout the day.
  3. Have honey mixed with cinnamon powder.
  4. Fight obesity with herbs like ginger, triphala, licorice, guggul, and wild gooseberries.
  5. Avoid whites like rice, salt, sugar, and refined flours like maida.
  6. Eat seasonal and natural vegetables and fruits along with dairy products.
  7. Ensure adequate hydration of about three liters per day to get rid of toxins, which are formed during weight loss.

Massage: Ayurveda recommends specific massages aimed at weight loss.

  1. Abhyangam: This massage done using warm herbal oils helps in revitalizing and reenergizing the body. It is a great detox method by improving blood and lymphatic circulation, eliminating wastes, and improving nutritional supply at a cellular level.
  2. Udwarthanam: This is a special dry massage using dry herbal powders and vigorous strokes/movements. They are believed to help in breaking up fatty deposits, improving blood circulation, and improving overall muscle tone.

Ayurvedic herbs:

  1. Ginger: Helps in cholesterol metabolism, reduces fat accumulation, and controls fatty acid oxidation
  2. Triphala: Helps to maintain a lean body mass, prevents fat accumulation, and helps weight loss
  3. Garcinia cambogia: Stops fat accumulation, prevents visceral fat formation and alters fat synthesis
  4. Guggul or Commiphora: Another fat burner, which reduces total cholesterol and triglycerides and improves levels of good cholesterol
  5. Licorice or Glycyrrhiza Glabra: Has phyto-chemicals and flavonoids, which reduce triglyceride levels.
  6. Kalonji: Reduces waist-hip ratios and body mass index

Lifestyle changes:

  1. Include yoga asanas like Ardha Chandraasana, which are aimed at weight loss. Any yoga is useful in detox and improving metabolism.
  2. Quit smoking.
  3. Quit or consume alcohol only in moderation.
  4. Follow a regular sleep routine of 7 to 8 hours.
  5. Maintain adequate hydration.

All these will together help in losing weight, maintaining weight at a desired level and preventing unnecessary weight gain. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

I am 25 years old female . I have a long lasting problem of irregular menstruation since after my puberty . Initially when I bleed it was going ok for almost a year after that a pause of 5 or 6 months occurred then it bleed so everyone even my mom said its normal it happens being at an early stage of life . Who knew that it will take a disastrous phase as such. After that the problem started irregular menses sometimes a gap of 7 or 8 months occur and it never bleed until I take medicine or go to a doctor . It is a girl like me that I have been going under continuous treatment since then but still my problem is the same. In the starting I temporarily took a homeopathic treatment but the doctor said that this is a hormonal problem and it can not be cured but he prescribed me some medicine to let it bleed. After that I went to homeopathic doctor and spent there some 5 to 6 months but wasn't satisfied. After that I went for a bigger homeopathic doctor, this time I was 16 years of age and there I had a long treatment of about 5 years. Here also my problem was not cured completely , every time when I take medicine tgen only it bleeds and sometimes even after having medicines it got irregular then the doctor changes the medicine and then I bleed. There also sometimes a long gap of 5 to 6 months happened somehow and I got so disappointed. However I continued my treatment and after sometime I got through a Unani Hakim and tried tp give it a chance. He assured me that cases like this used to come to me and he had solved each and every case. I got some hope and started treatment there. His medicines were quite costly but I did not give up. And I sticked there for almost 3 years. His medicines were quite effective but my problem was like what to say. I gave up my treatment there and somehow there developed a feeling inside me that there is no doctor in this world who can cure me I will have to rely on medicines for a vast phase of my life. After that I again went to halopathy, this time a bigger doctor he asked to have some test and USG of lower abdomen. Then after going through the reports he told me that there are cyst inside there and that is the reason for the irregular menstruation. Anyhow he again told me the same thing there is no particular medicine for it you need to exercise, lose weight and have light diet etc. After that I heard of a very nice homeopathic doctor and he is an expert in solving critical cases. Now I have decided that whatever happens this will be my final doctor whether good or bad I will stick to him and now I am undergoing his treatment since 1 and a half year. His medicines are effective and he somehow assures me that tbe problem will be solved definitely but now after seeing such complications I doubt this line but anyways keeping an optimistic approach towards life, hoping to get well soon. By the way if you have any solution to my problem then do send me the details. Thank you.

It appears you have a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is very important to reduce weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle to get a good response to medicines. Medicines need to be continued till your weight can be optimised. Equally important is for you to remain positive and do as per doctor's advise.

Don’t worry. You can lose weight easily if you are patient and determined to shed those extra kilos. You just have to alter your daily routine, watch what you eat and be physically active. This requires you to be on your weight loss commitment for quiet long. As soon as you start seeing the results, you will be surprised as well as motivated to go beyond your weight loss and adopt and a lifelong healthy attitude. For a start please follow: 1. Watch what you eat – Are you eating too much junk, drink excessive alcohol and eating too much white food and sugar? Please cut it down to as low as you can from tomorrow. Cut down tea/coffee if you are too addicted to it. It is creating havoc inside your body. 2. Lifestyle – Are you a late sleeper and late riser? You can’t imagine what this schedule of yours is doing to your metabolism. It is degrading your digestive system from inside and your looks from outside. 3. Physically active – If you are a couch potato who loves to watch tv whole day then throw that couch of yours in the street and get yourself a treadmill tomorrow. Yes it is as simple as that. Who is stopping you? You have to be physically active all day long if you want to burn those extra calories. Do daily brisk walk, Pranayam, atleast 20 surayanamaskar everyday to start seeing the results. Take break between office work to walk a little or rather just climb some stairs to get that food you ate in lunch have space and heat to digest and absorb. What’s the harm in using your washroom to do a little middle of the day squats. Do that – No one is watching you. The key is to stay physically active all day long, no matter what. 4. Eat healthy and eat on time: Not only eating healthy is important but eating at right time is equally imp too. Have an early breakfast and early dinner and have 4 small meals between breakfast and dinner. To guide you a bit, here you go: A. Breakfast (Between 8-10 a. M) – Have oats/porridge or brown bread with milk and nuts. B. At 11 a. M - Cup of Green Tea c. Mid day meal (around 12 p. M) – Have a bowl of fruits. Citrus fruits are best taken during this hour and absorb well in the body. Have oranges, amla, pineapple etc during this hour. D. Lunch (between 2-3 p. M) – Daal, roti, mix veg, buttermilk and salad. You can also take brown rice with daal in lunch. Try to get your food cooked in olive oil. Lace your salad with apple cider vinegar, black pepper and seeds like flaxseeds or chia seeds to make it nutrition packed lunch. E. Between 4 p. M – 5 p. M – Cup of Green Tea F. Evening (4-6 p. M) – Have some nice sprouts with tomatoes and cucumber. G. Dinner (2 hours before sleeping, preferably before 9 p. M) – Paneer & veggies salad with olive oil, Roti or brown rice with Daal. H. Have a glass of warm milk. Weight loss is 80% about what you eat and 20% about exercises. That said, both the things go hand in hand. If you want to lose weight in a more healthy way than be patient and just follow the regimen everyday. Slow and steady wins the race.

How to maintain a weight and blood pressure Balance
Please help me.
I want to reduce my weight.
To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. Once you lose extra weight, your blood pressure will also remain under check. You may be able to even reduce your medication. There is a general approach and a specific approach as per individual patients metabolic profile. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If this is not enough then revert for further assessment and customised approach. With customised lifestyle modification approaches, people over 100-150 kg are also losing weight for long term. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Go for brisk walks or jogging for 45 minutes every day. Best wishes.

Controlling appetite is at times very difficult. You may take salads, fruits like apple, papaya, pomegranate etc whenever you feel hungry. You may take lemonade with a spoon of honey in it everyday at morning empty stomach. Indulge yourself in some activities so that you can divert your mind from it.

Health Benefits & Weight Loss With Drinking Green Juice

Homeopath, Sindhudurg
Health Benefits & Weight Loss With Drinking Green Juice
Green juice can be quite tasty, and if you heed a few parameters, you may experience health benefits such as more energy, improved immunity and weight loss. The key is making sure you control the calories -- in addition to consuming your juice at the right time.

Energy-
The natural sugars in green juices are a source of energy.
Green juices are made with fruits and vegetables filled with antioxidants, phytochemicals, minerals and vitamins -- sometimes as much as a day's worth of vegetables in one serving. When vegetables are juiced, the natural sugars in the vegetable are separated from the pulp, which is where the fiber is located. You may feel a" pump" of energy once those natural sugars get into your bloodstream and your glucose levels are raised.

Weight loss -
Adding fruit contributes sugar and more calories in addition to more nutrients.
Adding fruit to juices varies the flavor, but it comes with a price -- extra calories. If you are doing a juice fast and drinking green juices is your only source of nutrition, you can still enjoy weight-loss benefits while getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. The key is evenly spreading out your intake over an entire day since your body uses energy throughout the day, versus one or two servings full of calories. Packing an entire day's worth of calories into a few servings can be a recipe for weight gain and muscle damage if the body needs energy at a time when its glycogen stores are depleted.

Immunity-
Cruciferous vegetables boost immunity as well as provide minerals and nutrients. Green juices usually start with fresh vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli or others as your base.

Timing is everything -
Athletes know how to use their carbs wisely, and you can, too.
Since juicing vegetables removes the fiber and makes the sugar more readily available, you'll need to use that sugar wisely. Consume carbs within 30 minutes of training to restore the glucose you've used during your workout. This keeps the muscles from using protein as an energy source. Using the sugar in the green juice to replace glycogen stores that were depleted while working out means the sugar isn't stored in the body as excess glucose, which may be stored as fat if you take in more glucose than the body needs or has the capacity to store.

Considerations -
Consider blending versus juicing as a means of getting fiber in your green juice.
If you're incorporating green juices into your diet as a means of improving your overall health, blending -- or pureeing -- your vegetables into a smoothie with the help of low-sugar liquids, such as water, juice or milk, may be better options for you. With blending and pureeing, the fiber stays intact. This way, you'll still receive the benefits of feeling fuller longer, which can keep you from consuming more calories in addition to those contained in your green juice.

Weight reduction: regular yoga practices and exercise are vitally important, especially for seniors and long standing obese. But only these two will not lead to weight loss until cut back on sugars and carbohydrates and weight reducing specific diet and herbal supplements. Sugar should be restricted to only five tea spoon=25 gm daily intake and carbohydrates are to be in complex form. For further assistance you can concern me privately.

Dear Thanks for contacting with your health concern 1. DIETARY AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES. There is a limit to how much one can exercise every day. An average (nonathlete) person cannot run or exercise vigorously for more than 30 minutes i.e. You cannot burn more than 300 calories through EXERCISE every day! So it is important to control the tongue, along with whatever exercise you do: ½ hour of walking burn 130 calories ½ hour of jogging/running burn 300-350 calories ½ hour of swimming burn 250 calories ½ hour of cycling burn 150 calories ½ hour of aerobic exercise burn 250 calories ½ hour of light exercise like writing/driving burn 50 calories i.e. If you don’t exercise you consume about 2000-2500 calories per day. To this, you Add any of the above exercise protocol to consume more calories and keep your calorie consumption below 2000 per day and you will be losing weight 2. Tips on Eating: Starvation is not the right way to lose weight. Take the right type of diet and eat heartily: AVOID: sedentary lifestyle, daytime sleeping after meals, newly harvested rice, curd, butter, ghee, cheese, cream, chocolates, cakes, pastries, ice-creams, jams. Oils should be reduced to a minimum, avoid deep fried foods like puries, bhujees, potato chips. .avoid potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, yam, nuts, fruits with sweet pulp like mango, chickoos, bananas, and grapes. Avoid processed and tinned foods, opt for fresh foods. Drinking cold water after exercise. Eliminate all cold food and drink; you should eat nothing that is refrigerator cold. WHAT TO EAT: .start the meal with a large bowl of thin soup, followed by a good volume of salads prepared with green vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, cucumber, sprouted pulses). This will prevent you from taking extra servings of the meals. Drink plenty of water and diluted buttermilk. .Avoid rice, take roti or phulka, without oil or ghee. The bhaji servings should be prepared from green leafy vegetables, onions, cauliflower’s, lady’s finger, radish, turnips, mushrooms, sprouted pulses. Oil may be substituted by gravy of tomato, onion, garlic, and ginger, in the curry or bhaji for taste. For morning and evening snacks, take recommended fruits, vegetables and low-fat (skimmed) milk, black tea without sugar has negligible calories. Carbohydrates: fat requires carbohydrates to burn, so take them in moderation like grains. 2.DEVELOP HEALTHY EATING HABITS. Do not eat only 2 large meals a day. It leads to overeating due to hunger. Take snacks in between. It is advisable to eat a good breakfast and light lunch and dinner. Keep a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in the dining hall. Watching TV while eating, talking, arguments, angry discussions all lead to overeating g..Eat slowly; chewing each bite thoroughly gives a feeling of satiation. Do not be tempted to finish up the leftovers. Use nonstick cooking ware for cooking For Ayurveda Medicine and Dosage with weekly diet chart kindly book an appointment.
