What is the perfect treatment for diabetes? How to control it? Maximum Indian are diabetics patient here. Thank you.

BHMS
Homeopath,
What is the perfect treatment for diabetes? How to control it? Maximum Indian are diabetics patient here. Thank you.
Dear Mr Rohit.....You must have heard the saying PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE....That proverb is exactly related to Diabetes.Once you are diagnosed with diabetes then be sure to maintain a carbohydrate-less diet and take medicines for the rest of life....If you can maintain your diet and walk for at least 1 hour a day then may be your blood sugar level normal, but it will always tend to rise....If you are suffering from diabetes then your first priority should be not to higher your blood sugar level.....If your blood sugar level gets rising continously then you may turn into an INSULIN DEPENDANT DIABETIC patient.....in that case you have to take Insulin hormane daily from external means.....So, I would advise to maintain a carbohydrate-less diet and a walk for 1 hour daily in case you are diagnosed with diabetes

Lybrate-user, if you have hypothyroidism since birth, (congental) then the only treatment is to take thyroxine tablets in prescribed dosage for life time. If you stop, then it will affect very adversely and lead to multiple problems. So please keep taking that medicine with out stopping. If stop then serious metabolic complications occur.

Ask your local doctor. He may advise you to reduce the dosages. But I feel you BP has not come down enough to warrant a reduction in dosages. If you can reduce your weight to about 59 kgs that may be the time you can think of reducing medication. But do so only after your Doctor agrees to it.

My question was: If my fasting sugar was 107 and pp sugar was 103, am I diabetic at the age of 76. I never had sugar earlier as I got tested several times. My second question is what are the symptoms of diabetics?

These reports are normal. Only fasting is little bit high. If you want to confirm, there is 1 more test i. E hba1c which will confirm you that you are diabetic or not or even if you are pre-diabetic. The symptoms of diabetes are:- 1. Increased thirst and hunger 2. Frequent urination 3. Weight loss or gain that has no obvious cause 4. Fatigue 5. Blurred vision 6. Wounds that heal slowly 7. Nausea 8. Skin infections 9. Patches of darker skin in areas of the body that have creases 10. Irritability 11. Breath that has a sweet, fruity, or acetone odor 12. Reduced feeling in your hands or feet.

I am suffering from sugar please tell me some preventions and precaution to take?
Be on a strict diabetic diet. Avoid direct sugars. Use sugar free tablets instead of sugar. Take medicines regularly according to the advice of your doctor, get your blood and urine examined for sugar every month. Use soft mcr chappals while walking. Take utmost care of your foot and eyes, go for an eye checkup once in a year. Go for a walk everyday for about 1hr. All these will help you to keep your sugar level under control.

My sugar levels fbs142plbs228 I am use tab glycomet GP 1 please give me suggestion.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. From the given glucose levels, it is clear that present treatment is not adequate. Ideally FBG should be <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c%<6.8, for very good control. So there has to be some addition to present treatment. Plus a re-look has to be given to your dietary pattern and amount if exercise being done. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The values of blood glucose mentioned show that diabetes is fairly controlled. Ideally fasting should be <100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c%<7. As regards BP systolic should be a bit lower, closer to 130 mm. And diastolic closer to 80 mm. TGL level is high. We may have to give a closer look at all the drugs and see if anything can be improved. By simple modifying the lifestyle almost everything can be corrected. Regarding TGL some drug may be required. Thanks.

Pre diabetes is like sitting on a fence. You can fall in either direction. There is a good chance that you will not progress to diabetes if you control your diet and do regular exercise. There is always a possibility that you may develop diabetes some day... especially in stressful situations.

I want to ask is it necessary to take thyroid medication if my t3 and t4 are normal but tsh is raised from normal range. Kindly tell me.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
T3 and t4 may remain normal. Tsh being high indicates a signal that your thyroid gland is under stress. Especially so if your tsh is beyond 10. Free t3 and free t4 have higher significance in this regard then just total t3 and total t4. It is highly recommended that you keep on taking the medicines if you're already taking or you get tested for anti tpo to get the full picture before we start medicines.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When on treatment ideally TSH should be maintained < 3 mU/L. Hence current dose of 125 mcg is fine. It should be continued. To be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism it is essential to maintain TSH < 3 mu/L. Once well stabilised you can check TSH one in 6 months to a year. But do not make frequent changes in Thyroxine dosage. Thanks.

1.mycobutol 750
2.pyrazinamide 750
3.Rifampin 600.
Now ...
There is no reason for you to continue Pyrazinamide so long. And why is there no isoniazid in the prescribed drugs. The regimen you using for to cure tb is not correct. It should contain rifampicin, isoniazid, Pyrazinamide and ethambutol for 2-3 months and later the drugs should be continued without Pyrazinamide only for 9 months at the most in total. I don't understand the reason for 1.5 yrs of treatment. Even if it's bone tb the drugs should be for 1 year and without Pyrazinamide.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if diabetes is not well controlled and going on for a number of years, then it does affect the nervous system causing sensory neuropathy, where patient may feel tingling, numbness, altered sensation and/or loss of sensation. Does he have any cut or ulcer on the sole? since when has he been having the injury or ulcer on the foot? how good is his blood glucose control? it is essential to have a fairly strict glucose control in such situation. He may need urgent care so please consult your local diabetologist urgently. Thanks.
