Coconut oil is high in saturated fats. So not to eb used on a regular basis. Instaed an oil combination of mustard oil, sesame seed/rice bran oil is helpful in achieveing the desired fatty acid ratio. 1. Have small frequent meals at 2-3 hrs interval instead of 3-4 large meals only 2. Drink 2-3 litres water daily 3. Avoid table salt, junk, fried, processed, preserved, sugary foods & drinks, alcohol. 4. Replace simple carbs (sugar, jaggery, honey, maida, sago, cornflour, arrowroot flour, potato, biscuit, cake, white rice, white bread) with complex carbs (whole fruits, vegetables, salads, whole grains-atta, dalia, suji, oats, millets, barley, brown rice, atta bread, quinoa, whole legumes-sprouts, soyabean, pseudo cereals-rajgira, makhana, & nuts, oilseeds). 5. Avoid skipping meals 6. Have early & light dinner. 7. Sleep & wake up early. Have a sound sleep 8. Brisk walk daily for 1 hr. 9. Walk/ cycle instead of taking transport, take stairs instead of lift/ escalator. 10. Cut down on total oil consumption. 11. Avoid sleeping in afternoon 12. Take 15 mins light walk post main meals. Avoid sitting for an hr at a stretch continuously. 13. If you can not do without white rice in meals, then make it once a day & reduce the quantity. Use a combination of other cereals in same meal-ex: multigrain atta roti/ bajra roti. Include salads/stew & vegetables in large quantity in all main meals. Have low fat curd, sprouts/soyabean/nutrella, /fish/chicken/egg (not fried) in the same meal. This way you can bring down the GI of the meal. 14. Have a coconut water (w/o cream) daily. 15. Replace cooking salt with rock salt & cut salt in cooking to half. Use lemon, vinegar, herbs to enhance the flavor of your foods instead.

Hello, If the person has T1 diabetes, then the only treatment is taking Insulin injections for lifetime. There are no oral drugs available. The reason being in these persons there is No Insulin production by Beta ells of pancreas. Since Insulin is needed for glucose, protein and fat metabolism constantly, then it has to be supplemented every day from outside. So it is said in Type 1 DM Insulin is needed for treatment and for survival of the patient. Thanks.

Insulin Therapy For Diabetics Explained

MBBS
Diabetologist, Jabalpur
Insulin Therapy For Diabetics Explained

What is insulin therapy?
Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for keeping the level of sugar in the blood under control. It is the primary therapy used for the treatment of any type of diabetes. The dependence on insulin depends on the balance between the actual production of insulin in the body and the resistance of the body cells to the insulin produced. People, who suffer from diabetes type 1, need insulin injections lifelong. The requirement for insulin therapy in people suffering from type 2 diabetes solely depends upon the declining function of the beta-cells over time.

What are the types of insulin available in the market?
The various types of insulin available in the market are:

  1. Rapid acting insulin: The onset of action in this type of insulin is rapid and it lasts for a short duration, about two hours.
  2. Short acting or regular insulin: The onset of action is moderate, and it starts acting within half an hour, and the duration of action ranges from 3 to 6 hours.
  3. Intermediate acting insulin: It takes about 2 to 4 hours for the onset of action of this type of insulin and the effect can remain for about 18 hours.
  4. Long acting insulin:  The duration of action of this type of insulin can last up to about an entire day.

How is it taken?
Insulin injections can be self-injected using a syringe, a needle, a cartridge system, or a pre-filled pen system. Devices for inhaling insulin, quick-acting insulin and insulin pumps are also available at medical stores and pharmacies. Insulin is injected subcutaneously, into your muscles. Try to ensure that you inject around the same area every time, but choose a different spot to ensure less scarring. The best areas to inject insulin are thighs, buttocks, arms and belly. If you take regular insulin, it is advised to take it half an hour before a meal.

What are the possible side effects?

  1. Low blood sugar level
  2. Scars and lumps from extensive usage of insulin injection
  3. Rashes can be found in the area the insulin is injected or sometimes, all over the body
  4. Weight gain when you start using insulin initially

Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your father's eye problem. Diabetes and blood pressure are disorders of the blood vessels. They tend to affect most of the organs in the body including the eyes. In the eye, diabetes/ blood pressure may lead to bursting of blood vessels and subsequent bleeding into the eye. This would in turn reduce the vision of the eye. In some cases, it could be improved by surgery or injection in the eye whereas in other cases, it would be irreversible. Thus, the best guide would be a retina specialist. Take the opinion and follow the advice given by the retina specialist. Feel free to contact me for further assistance. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-

Please add jou or barley flour in your diet and ragi flour. Roast this flour and mix 1/4th of it in normal wheat flour. Prepare chapaties with it and eat it daily. Eat more of fiber containing food like green leafy vegies, more of fresh seasonal fruits, drink less water with meals instead take sips of water while eating food and don? t drink before and after. Take 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seed powder (methi dana powder) with water daily will control diabetes and its complications. You can also chew 4-5 leaves of curry patta daily as it will reduce your blood pressure, protects liver and works as antioxidants along with increasing hb which will overcome you weakness. There is no specific normal or abnormal level of PSA in the blood. In the past, most doctors considered PSA levels of 4.0 ng/mL and lower as normal. Therefore, if a man had a PSA level above 4.0 ng/mL, doctors would often recommend a prostate biopsy to determine whether prostate cancer was present.Thirteen per cent of men over 55 have a PSA level of ≥ 4 ng/ml but this does not automatically mean you have cancer. An elevated level can also be due to other conditions, such as benign enlargement of the prostate (BPH), a urinary tract infection or a prostate infection. But it is advisable to a needle biopsy of prostate

Your post prandial sugar raised to a high level, you should check HbA1c levels and can start with Tab. METFORMIN 500MG once a day in between breakfast. For diet you take rice in less amount and substitue with Roti and other vegitables also. Check the difference in 2 weeks by doing Fasting and PPBS and consult again.
