I have problem in my ankle the bone was broken and fix ,dr advice me to wear ankle brace from last two years but when I was starting these days running or some hard workout my whole leg start paining too much what was reason and how I treat this problem?

I am using laptop for long period of time and due to which I am having severe neck pain in my back side. It is beyond my tolerable power. Please help.

Hello lybrate user as due to long period of bending neck might be the pain has increased you can do hot spanging over it is there any swelling over it and do it for a week and reduce your timing for laptop but if it still persist go to an orthopaedics for further management.

Hello, Kindly follow advises given below 1.Avoid using computers continuously, take rest for 5 min after working for half an hour 2. In pain free interval do neck exercise (kindly learn exercise by registered Trainer) 3. you can use thin pillow while sleeping so that normal posture of neck can be maintained 4.Maintain proper posture of body while watching TV/ studying Kindly go for cervical X ray AP and lateral and review with reports consult Orthopedician for further management

Try this for joint pains try this. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

Best exercises for knee pain dear you can do it, except where stated, do 10 to 12 repetitions of each of the following, 2 or 3 times a week. Partial squats e pain. Stand about 12 inches away from the front of a chair with your feet about hip-width apart and your toes forward. Bending at the hips, slowly lower yourself halfway down to the chair. Keside-lying leg lifts wearing ankle weights above the knee, lie on your left side, legs straight and together, with your left arm supporting your head. Keeping your right foot flexed and your body straight, slowly lift your right leg to about shoulder height, then slowly lower. Repeat with your left legep your abs tight, asusing an aerobic step bench or a staircase, step up onto the step with your right foot. Tap your left foot on the top of the step, and then lower. As you step up, your knee should be directly over your ankle. Repeat with your left foot. Tep-upsnd check that your knees stay behind your toes. Inner-thigh leg lifts wearing ankle weights above the knee, lie on your left side, slightly back on your butt. Bend your right leg and place it behind your left leg with your right foot flat on the floor and your left leg straight. Support your head with your left arm. Slowly lift your left leg about 3 to 5 inches, then lower. Repeat with your right leg straight-leg raises sit with your back against a wall, left leg straight and right leg bent with your foot flat on the floor. Slowly raise your left leg straight up about 12 inches off the floor. Hold, then slowly lower. Repeat with your right leg. More: 4 treats you can make with protein powder calf rais using a chair or wall for balance, stand with your feet about hip-width apart, toes straight ahead. Slowly lift your heels off the floor, rising up onto your toes. Hold, then slowly lower. Es I hope you will fit & fine thanks.

I have started running about two weeks ago. After few days of running my knees started to pain. But after my last run the pain is much worse and I am hardly able to take stares and even I feel pain while resting.

I fell from a chair 5 days back and fractured my right elbow. The doctor diagnosed it as a radial head fracture with minimal displacement. One doc suggested that I do a surgery and put a screw. I saw another doc more experienced and he said surgery is not required and it can do more damage than help. He put me inside a full arm cast and asked me to wear it for 3 weeks. I wanted to know where the recovery will be faster, with or without surgery. If I have to wear this cast for 3 weeks, will it take much longer to get full ROM of wrist and elbow. Also while I am wearing the cast can I move my shoulders up and down. Can I flex my hand muscles. Anything else I can do that will help me recover faster. I am a software guy so need to work a lot on the computer so quick recovery is essential for me. Thanks

Dear Lybrate user Fracture is a break in the surface of bone either through its cortex or articular surface. When a bone breaks it is bound to injure the surrounding soft tissue like muscle and ligaments, etc. Treatment depends upon severity, displacement, type of fracture, etc. As you told it's minimum displaced or undisplaced fracture need only cuff and collar sling. Firstly Immobilisation phase. In which immobilise the joint or limb atleast three weeks to promote proper healing. Its important phase once bone heal properly then no worries. You can bend or extend your fingers too. After that second phase comes that is Mobilisation phase. Now joint or bone become able to move through proper exercises. Exercises will increase blood circulation and pain stiffness relief and provide strength to muscle. For good results exercises should be undersupervision of qualified physiotherapist.

My age is 63 running. I am healthy. No ill No Pill No bill type health. 1 work and drive motorbike or car almost 60 k m every day. It makes aches at lower back. After some rest the backache is forgotten. I need to have cure from the backache. Thanks.

It needs to be investigated. Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

1. Start with Physiotherapy treatment to reduce Pain. 2. Then start with spinal exercises. 3. Use lumber spine belt. 4. Don't sit on floor. 5. Don't lift heavy things 6. Apply volini cream twice a day. 7. Take calcium, vitamin D 3 and Methylcobalmine supplement for one month.

The pain in the toe can be cause of increased uric acid, so get that checked in blood test serum uric acid levels, if its high then may be she is suffering from gouty arthritis. Can consult orthopedic after that. Also if the level is high need to limit protein intake as in lentils, whole pulses, etc.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned a duration of 2 weeks of back pain. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you, you can also add a muscle relaxant like tab myoril 8mg twice a day for 5-7 days if there is associated muscle spasm - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation.
