Do's And Don'ts Of Sex During Pregnancy

Do's And Don'ts Of Sex During Pregnancy

One of the most common queries faced by doctors dealing with pregnancies is related to the risks associated with having sex during the gestation and post partum periods. Such doubts arise from both genuine concern and also from several superstitions and myths.

As a matter of fact, having sex during pregnancy is perfectly normal and safe. However, keeping in mind the changes the woman is going through there are a few specific do's and don'ts you need to follow while having sex during pregnancy.

Do's -

1. Be aware

Pay attention to the doctor's evaluation of the expecting mother's condition. Many pregnancy risks can be predicted at an early stage. Abstain in case of predictions pointing to a risky gestation period and/ or delivery. Get yourself tested regularly, so that there is no possibility of transmitting infections to the expecting mother.

2. Enjoy foreplay

Pregnancy normally results in increased sensation in the erotogenic zones. Foreplay is a great way to relieve a woman's tension and she will enjoy your touch more than ever.

3. Pay attention to your partner's needs and reactions

4. Women have to go through a lot during pregnancy like fatigue all the time, along with sudden nausea and extreme mood swings. So, paying more attention to your partner's needs and reactions will help make the act more enjoyable for both of you.

Don'ts -

1. Don't go for multiple partners

Multiple partners increase the risk of infections. It is not advisable to have sex with multiple partners during this time.

2. Don't Use sex toys

Use of sex toys during pregnancy is discouraged as it increases the risk of infections.

3. Don't Try risky positions and maneuvers

Please keep your desires for exotic positions in check. Risque behavior can lead to injuries.

4. Don't Keep yourself ahead of her

It is perfect idiocy to keep your desires ahead of the needs and desires of the love of your life. By putting yourself ahead of her you will not negatively affect her mental health.

5. Do not mix drugs with intimacy

Use of intoxicants during her pregnancy to enhance your senses will put the healthy growth and delivery of the child in jeopardy. A number of birth defects in children are the results of substance use during pregnancy.

scabies

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by the microscopic mite sarcoptes scabies. It is common all over the world, and can affect anyone. Scabies spreads quickly in crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people. Hospitals, child-care centers, and nursing homes are examples. Scabies can easily infect sex partners and other household members. Sharing clothes, towels, and bedding can sometimes spread scabies. This can happen much more easily when the infested person has crusted scabies. You cannot get scabies from a pet. Pets get a different mite infection called mange.
Symptoms are
Pimple-like irritations or a rash
Intense itching, especially at night
Sores caused by scratching
The infected person's clothes, bedding and towels should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. Treatment is also recommended for household members and sexual partners. Several lotions are available to treat scabies. I. E. Lotion scab.

I'm 20 years old and partner is of 18. She is suffering from Polycystic ovary Syndrome (something PCOS) cause of that she has irregular periods and bleeding every time. She consume birth control pills for that shake. I want to have oral sex with her. Is it safe to have oral sex (if I kiss her vagina?) or sex without using condom? Please guide.

BHMS, MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Gurgaon
Pcod curable by homeopathy. Oral sex is a mutual consent thing. But I do not think its very healthy. Birth control pills should be avoided at least before marriage as they create hormonal disturbance. Please do not do sex without a condom, she might become pregnant and it will not be good for either of you.

One of my friend had sex with his bf now she is afraid that she is pregnant . what should she do?

EMDR, FRCOG (LONDON) (Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), MFSRH , Diploma in psychosexual therapy, Medical diploma in clinical Hypnosis, Diploma in Evidence Based Healthcare, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

Thank you for your question. The commonest side effect of unprotected intercourse is a sexually transmitted infection followed by unwanted pregnancy. If your friend thinks she is pregnant she needs to do a pregnancy test with an early morning sample of her urine. If it is positive and she does not wish to be pregnant she needs to see a gynaecologist who can discuss the options for termination of pregnancy. Termination of pregnancy can only be carried out by a licenced medical practitioner in a government recognized center for termination of pregnancy. She will need to have an ultrasound examination and attend the hospital to complete the paperwork before any procedure can be carried out. If her pregnancy test is negative she can wait for 15 days for her period to come. If the period does not come and the test is still negative she should see the gynaecologist for further examination and tests. Regarding contraception, if she is likely to continue to be sexually active she needs to discuss her contraceptive choices with the gynaecologist and choose a method which suits her. This needs to be used in addition to condoms. Condoms are very good at preventing infections if used correctly but are often associated with a higher failure rate relating to unwanted pregnancies. Hope this helps best wishes.

Hello. The scars and the pigmentation on the face are treatable. It's better to get it examined first so that we can identify the type of skin, scars and if they are hyper pigmented, atrophic or ice pick scars. The treatment are of various kind like ranging from simple scrubs and mild peels for the face to the major interventions such as laser therapy, dermaroller, subcision or peeling. These depend on the type of the scars and which kind you opt for. You can consult me online or text me with pictures for further details.

Your hair needs a high protein well-rounded diet. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hair and nails are both protein fibers. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly. Stick to one good mild cleansing shampoo for six months before changing. - excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rain water and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle and limp. Use a live in conditioner during the rains to protect it from the humidity and wash and oil it regularly to maintain a healthy scalp. I being a both a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.
