Hello Lybrate user! From above mentioned information you have a lump along with swelling in your left breast. Go for ultrasound breast and get examined by a breast doctor. Without testing difficult to say on symptom basis that you have something related to cancer. Don't get scared as it could be a no cancerous swelling also.

Prevention Of Prostate Cancer

Prevention Of Prostate Cancer

One of the most significant glands in the male reproductive system is the prostate gland, which is responsible for carrying urine from the bladder. It is located right under the bladder and helps in production of semen which contains sperm.

Prostate cancer is a slow growing form of cancer that is rarely seen in men below the age of 50. It may occur due to both, genetic and environmental factors. Here is a list of measures that can help in preventing this ailment.

  1. Food Intake and Weight: Apart from age, the major factor that contributes to the risk of prostate cancer includes food and weight. Doctors suggest that bringing down your intake of calcium and fat that comes from red meat and excess dairy can help in preventing the onset of this ailment. The calcium intake should not go beyond 1,500 mg per day, which is why doctors will usually ask you not to have supplements. Cooked tomatoes with olive oil as well as cruciferous vegetables including broccoli and cauliflower should be included as a vital part of one's diet, while fish should be taken regularly as it is a source of healthy or good fat like Omega-3 fatty acids. In general, you should have fewer calories which should be matched up with ample exercise so that a healthy weight and balance is maintained.

  2. Stress and Blood Pressure: Stress and anxiety are also major reasons that contribute to the onset of this disease. One will need to see a doctor about high blood pressure, especially the kind that is triggered by stress and causes hypertension. Also, you must control your cholesterol and stay out of depression to ensure that your risk of developing prostate cancer reduces. Also, having these conditions along with prostate cancer makes the survival chances that much lower. So, you must get the right medication and treatment for these conditions as well.

  3. Lifestyle: One will need to quit smoking, that can cause a number of ailments including prostate cancer. Also, drinking alcohol in moderation is required in order to have a healthier lifestyle and cut the chances of developing such ailments.

  4. Screening: While your diet and other aspects may be right, there is still a great chance of developing prostate cancer, especially if anyone in your family has been afflicted with this condition in the past. Therefore, it is recommended to get an annual screening done so that you eliminate the chances of finding it out late, and can check the growth of any anomalies as soon as they take place. Getting regular checks ups done and getting diagnosed for the problem when the earliest symptoms begin to show are both crucial for prostate cancer. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a oncologist and ask a free question.

Long term use of painkillers can cause kidney cancer

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Long term use of painkillers can cause kidney cancer
A study published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine has shown that people who regularly take painkiller drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen are 51 percent more likely to develop kidney cancer. There is no increased risk from taking aspirin or paracetamol. The mechanism through which painkillers could cause kidney disease is the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis with resulting papillary and tubular injury, and ultimately damage to DNA.

The study analyzed data from 77,525 women in the Nurses’ Health Study and from 49,403 men in the Health Professionals Follow–up Study. The risk was related to the duration of use of the painkillers. There was a decrease in the risk by 19% if the painkiller was used for less than four years. There was a 36 per cent increase in risk of kidney cancer for people who used them regularly for 4 to 10 years. The risk increased almost three times for those who used these drugs regularly for 10 years or more.

The good news is that kidney cancer is uncommon so the risk is small for average users.

Two other important causes of kidney cancer are obesity and smoking. So people on painkillers should not smoke and should also keep their weight under control to prevent kidney cancer.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, GERD can possibly be one of the reasons that can trigger allergic asthma, and cause shortness of breath. Medicines apart, as advised by your doc, you need make sure your diet/ nutrition, lifestyle including bowel habits etc. All are streamlined. Learn to relax and keep your stress levels low. Its advisable to eat in moderation and less than your full capacity than eating to your full. Try avoiding tea, coffee, spices, chilies, pickles, extremely hot & cold/ chilled foods. Do consume citrus fruits/ vegetables rich in vitamin C as they help strengthen your immunity. Stay well hydrated and consume at least 6 to 8 glasses of clean & filtered water daily. Warm saline gargling, at least once daily, shall help protect you from throat related afflictions that often trigger asthma in certain people. Mostly, fresh air, dry climate, regular exercise help too. Daily consumption of ginger tea helps a lot too, unless you are allergic to it. Post meals, try sitting in 'Vajrasana' yogasana for about 10 minutes. Learning well & practicing yogasanas like bhujangasana, shavasana, and pranayams like kapalbhati, anulom-viloma, bhramari etc on a daily basis are highly beneficial in this condition. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best. Sincerely

My wife 's cousin suffering from breast pain and she is 15 years old she is living jakarta with parents could please tell me there is a doctor who join lybra+e and they comfortable to talk.

MCh - Surgical Oncology, FEBS - Fellow of European Board of Surgical Oncology
Oncologist, Navi Mumbai
Breast pain in 15 year old can be due to 1) breast enlargement which is very common at her age 2) related to menses. Could be cyclical or non cyclical 3) pain may be due to bone disease which is under the breast. Ask for a careful history keeping these in mind. Most likely the pain is physiological related to increase in breast size.

Please let me know if cancer is contagious .Will it spread through sexual contact, blood contact, through any other sort.

MD (Radiation Oncology), DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Noida
No, cancer is not contagious in itself by sexual contact or even blood products. However, sexual contact transfers the following viruses - hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, hiv, HPV which can lead to different types of cancer later (though cancer causation due to these viruses is still relatively rare even after the infection)
