Hi lybrate-user, I appreciagte you seeking help. First and foremost, I would advise that you stay cool and not be overly anxious. Gynecomastia does not mean breast cancer. It is a benign enlargement of the breast tissue triggered mostly by hormonal imbalance, the exact underlying cause of which needs to be ascertained. You should visit an endocrinologist and get this clinically examined in person. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely.

Cancer Surgery - How Laparoscopy Can Help Treat It?

Cancer Surgery - How Laparoscopy Can Help Treat It?

Laparoscopy essentially means a surgical technique that aims at minimizing the trauma of general surgery. This is also known as minimally-invasive surgery. This procedure can take the form of endoscopic and robotic technique as well. The laparoscopic technique involves making small incisions, the involvement of a camera and removing/ operating the affected part with the help of light through machines.

Laparoscopic technique in cancer: Laparoscopic surgeries are being extensively used for removal of the colon, rectum, stomach, uterus, kidney, lymph node removal etc. The laparoscopic procedure helps to reduce the size of the incision, reduce pain related complications, reduce the hospital stay and a quicker recovery period.

How old is the process?

It’s been a couple of decades since the first procedure of laparoscopy was performed. The first procedure was a gallbladder removal followed by a kidney removal. Laparoscopic procedures for cancer surgeries have only come into effect in the last 5-6 years. Since most cancer surgeries are complicated and demand a holistic involvement of a surgeon, this procedure is not followed by too many surgeons. This being said, cancer-related to the kidney, abdomen and gall bladder, laparoscopic treatments are getting more preference among surgeons.

Understanding the benefits of Laparoscopic surgery

The biggest advantage of this procedure is the minimization of pain. Apart from this, some other benefits include less bleeding, shorter duration of stay at the hospital, less scarring etc. Having said this, a lot of these factors depend on the type and location of the surgery. Typically, cancer-related surgeries involve intense pain and high recovery time. A laparoscopic procedure can help in this regard.

Know the risks involved: Every operation has its fair share of risks and complication- be it conventional surgery or laparoscopic surgery and inexperienced hands and complex surgeries can make the matter worse. Some bigger risks involved in laparoscopic procedures include complications related to the anesthesia, injury to other organs, internal infections and the risk of punctures. Patients who have undergone surgeries before runs more risk than the one who has not undergone any operation.

Cost involved: The cost involved for laparoscopic surgeries are comparatively lesser than conventional surgeries. Then again, the location and complication of the surgery also pay a deciding factor of the final cost involved. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Colon Cancer - How Ayurveda Can Help You Treat It?

Colon Cancer - How Ayurveda Can Help You Treat It?

According to the American Cancer Society and Colon Cancer Alliance, colon cancer, which is also referred to as colorectal cancer is regarded as the third most commonly diagnosed type of cancer, as well as the second most important reason of cancer deaths in the U.S. affecting both men and women. But thankfully, colon cancer can be prevented by changing the food habits. It is also important to get regular screenings through colonoscopy, which will help you to determine the early or precancerous stage that can be treated with the removal of cancerous cells.

Colorectal cancer is deemed to be cancer, related to the food habits and it can be prevented by correcting the same. Here are the top ways through which you can help your condition naturally:

  1. Reduce the amount of red meat consumption: Health studies reveal that people who eat red meat on a regular basis are more prone to developing colon cancer. This is because the chemicals required to digest this food damage the DNA material which in turn is the main reason behind the cause of cancer.

  2. Increase the amount of garlic intake: By consuming more garlic, you can reduce the risk of developing different types of cancer, particularly those of the gastrointestinal tract. Garlic is rich in anti-bacterial properties that can block the pathway of cancer causing elements and boost the repair as well as reduce the proliferation of cells. It is also high in selenium and sodium content which are beneficial for the overall health.

  3. Consume all types of plant antioxidants: The bright-coloured fruits and vegetables, as well as herbs and spices, can greatly contribute to adding a wide array of antioxidants in your regular diet. Foods that are rich in antioxidants include carrots, pomegranates, cranberries, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, apples, cabbage, turmeric, sage, rosemary, saffron, purple and red grapes.

  4. Cook foods in sesame oil: The many health benefits of sesame seeds are due to its nutritional content, including vitamins, minerals, natural oils, and organic compounds which consist of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, zinc, fiber, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, protein, and tryptophan.

  5. Increase the consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids: It has been reported by several types of research that a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the occurrence of colon cancer and therefore you must eat a lot of salmon, cod, mackerel and sardines for decreasing the pro-inflammatory levels in your body.

  6. Go For Ayurvedic Panchakarma Therapy: Panchakarma is the ultimate mind-body healing experience for detoxifying the body, strengthening the immune system and restoring balance and well-being. It is one the most effective healing modality in Ayurvedic Medicine. It promotes Detoxification and Rejuvenation. It is recommended on a seasonal basis, as well as when an individual feels out of balance or is experiencing illness. According to Ayurveda, good health depends upon our capability to fully metabolize all aspects of life, assimilating that which nourishes and eliminating the rest. When we can’t completely digest our food, experiences, and emotions, toxins accumulate in our bodily tissues, creating imbalance and – ultimately – disease. Panchakarma is an elegant cleansing process that releases stored toxins and restores the body’s innate healing ability.

These few alterations to your food habits can greatly help you in preventing colon cancer and you can consult your doctor for a detailed analysis and recommendation based on your individual health condition.

It's a low risk prostate cancer. We need to first stage disease do PSA levels and risk stratify if it is very low risk we can take up surveillance. If moderate or high risk. We may have to consider surgery or radical radiotherapy.
