It needs medication and no other way to cure. You have to take tablets life long. One tab per day is not a serious issue to be feared.

I am 71 years old, suffering diabetic for last 20 years, sugar levels 180. Give me advice.

Advanced Aesthetics
Ayurveda, Gulbarga
I am 71 years old, suffering diabetic for last 20 years, sugar levels 180. Give me advice.
The increase in the blood sugar levels damages nerves and blood vessels. It also leads to complications like cardiovascular diseases, strokes, kidney problems, blindness, dental problems and amputations. High blood glucose levels also damage nerves and blood vessels. Diabetes can also lead to depression, fertility issues, and increased risk of other diseases and lack of mobility as the age of the person increases. It is very difficult to find out what exactly triggers diabetes, but health experts say that genes and environmental factors are responsible for rise in blood glucose levels. There are two types of diabetes- Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Let us study the causes that give rise to type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a grave medical condition, but with a healthy diet and regular exercise, managing the condition becomes a child?s play. Here are a handful of diabetes home remedies every diabetic can rely on to keep fluctuations of sugar levels under control. Bitter Gourd: Bitter gourds are one among the most effective ways for preventing sugar level fluctuations. Being a safe vegetable, this iron-rich gourd can be consumed by anyone. It influences the glucose metabolism in the body and helps stimulate pancreatic insulin secretion. Known to thwart off insulin resistance, bitter gourd is equally beneficial for people suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Drink a glass of bitter gourd juice, flavored with a little honey, every morning to keep diabetes away. guava is rich in both vitamin C and fiber, both that help in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. A very good home remedy for diabetes. Just peel the skin and consume one fruit daily to reap its benefits Get some physical activity daily to burn calories and stay in shape. This will also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Have a lot of fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains Any querries inform me..

I am a 48 years old person I am suffer from uriq acid disease what is remedy for uric acid and locel docter says to me the kidney is not running in body that acid is oasse a damage part of body in storage the what is your opinion ?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed to protect against future flares or prevent gout or uric acid problems from occurring in the first instance: maintain a high fluid intake (2-4 liters a day) avoid alcohol maintain a healthy body weight eat a balanced diet limit fish, meat and poultry intake. If attempting to lose weight, avoid low-carbohydrate diets. If carbohydrate intake is insufficient, the body is unable to burn its own fat properly, releasing substances called ketones into the bloodstream. This results in a condition called ketosis that can increase the level of uric acid in the blood. It is most important to avoid foods that are high in purines, to ensure that the levels of uric acid in the blood do not get too high. Here is a list of high-purine foods to be wary of: beef kidneys brains dried beans and peas liver mackerel mushrooms lose some weight by walking or other exercise, avoid meats and get always be on a prescribed diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian. I am a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and a doctor, consult privately for detailed treatment plans using diet and medications.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Following fruits can be taken by a person with diabetes: Papaya, watermelon, pomegranate, apple, pear, guava, orange, sweet lime. Fruits like banana, mango, grapes and chikkoo should be avoided. First and foremost is to achieve a strict blood glucose control with fasting < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Then one can take 1 to 2 servings of the fruits a day. Fruits do not reduce blood glucose. Thanks.

Fasting 86, pp 250. Taking. Metformine. Gemnepride. What should to do to control pp?
Your pp is fairly high, it means the medication is not adequate or your intake is a bit high. Please let me know level of physical activity that you do during the day. Daily 1 h plus exercise will help to control pp levels. Your bmi is28.1 kg /m2 (normal <23 kg/m2). It shows you are over weight. Excess weight also increases blood sugar. You have to exercise for more than 1 hour a day and also reduce you intake by at least 15 - 20 % a day. What is the dose of both drugs? dosage may have to be increased.

Causes and Treatment of Infertility in Men and Women

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Chennai
Causes and Treatment of Infertility in Men and Women

If you are having problems conceiving, you are not alone; around one in seven couples has difficulty.

Infertility is often thought of as a female concern, but in fact in a third of the cases, it is because of male problems, such as a low sperm count.

Male infertility is a condition wherein a man is unable to cause a successful pregnancy in a perfectly fertile woman. Male infertility usually stems from deficiencies in the semen (relating to poor sperm count or low sperm motility).

On the other hand, female infertility is as a condition wherein a woman is unable to carry a pregnancy to full term or conceive after an entire year of having unprotected sexual intercourse.

What causes infertility?

Causes of Male Infertility:

  1. Blockage or obstruction either in the production of sperm or its motility leads to infertility. This problem is caused by various factors such as prostate infections or vasectomy (a surgical procedure used for birth control in men).

  2. Difficulty in the production of sperm, either due to genetic or chromosomal causes, can lead to this condition. Damage to the testes or the condition of undescended testes can also result in this disorder.

  3. Hormonal problems caused due to anabolic steroid (a synthetic steroidal hormone with effects similar to those of testosterone) abuse or pituitary tumors (tumors of the endocrine gland) are other factors responsible for male infertility.

Other factors that may play a part in infertility include:

  1. having had inflamed testes (orchitis)

  2. a past bacterial infection that caused scarring and blocked tubes within the epididymis as it joins the vas

  3. having received medical treatment such as drug treatment, radiotherapy or surgery – for example to correct a hernia, undescended testes or twisted testicles

  4. genetic problems

  5. diabetes

  6. lifestyle factors such as being overweight or having a job that involves contact with chemicals or radiation.

  7. Male fertility is also thought to decline with age, although to what extent is unclear.

Causes of Female Infertility:

  1. Ovulation disorders: Ovulation disorders account for about 25% cases of female infertility. This happens either because of under-secretion or other problems in the secretion of the reproductive hormone by the pituitary gland.

  2. Tubal infertility: The fallopian tubes allow the eggs to travel from ovaries to the uterus. Any blockage or obstruction of these tubes results in infertility, owing do the fact that the eggs or the ova do not reach the uterus. Certain factors such as pelvic inflammation (infections of the uterus) can result in the blockage of the fallopian tubes.

Other factors that may play a part include:

  1. age – female fertility declines sharply after the age of 35

  2. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

  3. gynaecological problems such as previous ectopic pregnancy or having had more than one miscarriage

  4. medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, and thyroid and bowel diseases

  5. lifestyle factors such as stress, being overweight or underweight, and smoking.

Treatment Methods for Males:

  1. Surgery can correct blockage or obstruction in the testes.

  2. Gonadotropin treatment is a treatment method to develop sperm production. This includes injectable medicines which comprise of both the hormones, Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). This mode of treatment has been found to improve sperm motility, morphology and count.

  3. Varicocele treatment method is the enlargement of a varicose vein (swollen or twisted vein) in the scrotum (testicles). The objective of this treatment is to correct abnormal sperm shape.

Treatment Methods for Females:

  1. Fertility stimulating drugs: Fertility restoring drugs are known to induce ovulation in women who have ovulation disorders. They tend to work like hormone stimulators such as the luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which trigger ovulation.

  2. Surgical process: There are surgical treatment methods available to boost female fertility. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgery that reduces or corrects abnormalities related to pregnancy

Diet to control thyroid. M diagnosed recently with thyroid 10.4. M taking thyroid 25 mg Is it sufficient?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
You have hypothyroidism. Thyroid is a hormone and is dependent on multiple ingredients and signals for production - hence no particular food is to avoided or taken in more quantity. However, if you are iodine deficient then that requires dietary intervention. Thyroid medicine dose is always to be assessed in the background of each individual and no dose is standardized to be sufficient for all!

I want to know the perfect diet for diabetic patient for breakfast for lunch and the dinner.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

I want to know the perfect diet for diabetic patient for breakfast for lunch and the dinner.
Mr. lybrate-user, There is nothing like perfect diet, because our food habits are totally indivudualised, hence diet recommendations also have to be specific to each individual. In India food habits differ widely, for example in north wheat flour, rajma, black dal, paneer and ghee intake is much higher. In Rajasthan, Gujrat food is much different. Bengal fish dominates the intake along with rice. In South Indian food rice varieties are plenty. In Central India habit is different. So there can not be a single perfect diet. It has to be based on your current habits, weight (ideal body weight), extent of exercise, need for weigh reduction and blood glucose levels. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Diabetes can be well controlled either with oral modern medicines or Insulin injections. The drug mentioned by you, is being advertised a lot. But there absolutely no proper clinical evidence. There are no double blind clinical trials. Lot of claims are made, without no real clinching evidence. It may at best be sued as a supportive therapy. Thanks.

Diabetes agar control me na raha to impotence honeki sambhavana hamesha hoti hai. Isliye pahale aap ko blood sugar levels ko kabu me lana hoga. Usake saath kisi sexologist doctor se milke salah leni hogi. Because you have a very badly controlled diabete for such a long time. Sometimes sildenafil tablets do help. But better to consult a specialist for this.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Im high blood pressure and diabetes patient how I decrease both this by food and exercise?
Mr Debu, For treating both hypertension and diabetes taking prescribed drugs is essential. If you are already on drug treatment, then only the diet control and exercise will provide additional benefit. If you are looking for only diet and exercise without any drug treatment, then i am not sure whether there is any benefit. For hypertension your diet should contain less of salt (not more than 2.3 g a day). Our average diet gives almost 8 to 10 g of salt. (Sodium chloride). This means all food preparations made at home should contain minimal salt, no salt on table, no salt to be added to salads or fruits. No processed foods as all those contain very high quantity of salt. No pickles and papads, no salty substances fried shave or chivada etc. For diabetes your diet should give exact calories based on your Ideal Body Weight, blood sugar levels and extent of daily physical activity. You should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Refrain from alcohol and smoking, red meat and egg yolk. Plus at lest 1 hour of exercise on all days of the week or at least on 5 days.
