3 Causes Of Chronic Lower Back Pain!

Lower back pain is characterized by a feeling of pain around the lumbar region (curve of the back connecting the upper back and glutes- muscles in the buttock that are responsible for thigh movement) caused by muscle or ligament injury. The spinal area is most likely to be affected by lower pain as it may impair routine activities like walking and standing. Any lower back pain that lasts for more than ninety days can be considered as chronic.

Symptoms of lower back pain

The symptoms of lower back pain are usually a dull or excruciating pain in the lower back. It can also affect other parts of the body such as the hips and the legs. In case of severe pain, simple activities like walking, bending and sitting will be impaired.

Common causes of low back pain are: 

  1. Lumbo sacral radicular pain(sciatica
  2. Pain due to wear and tear of small joints (Facet Joints)of Lower spine 
  3. Pain due to disc ( Discogenic) 
  4. Pain Due to wear and tear of Joint between spine and Hip (SI) joint 
  5. Pain due to unstable spine ( Listhesis) 
  6. Pain due to fracture vertebrae (in Osteoporosis, trauma and cancer etc) 
  7. Pain due to Muscle, Ligaments and Fascia of back 

For proper treatment, we have to find the pain generator first with patient's history, clinical examination, investigation and most importantly with diagnostic Interventions. After confirming the pain generator, we have to go for therapeutic pain management interventions according to the diagnosis. These diagnostic interventions are newer and important tool because in more than half patients, imaging like X-ray and MRI are not helpful in finding the exact pain generator.

Greeting of the day. Doctor said that my mother having grease problem in her knee. They said that she have to change her knee but I heard that knee changed operation is not successful all time. She haven't test any tests like URIC ACID or THYROID. Every time she have pain in her legs or knee. Please tell me the treatment or medicine for these. Is any grease medicine available in market?

Dear sir surgery is d last option. U need to discuss your complete history with reports to physiotherapist n then lets see what he advices. I think swelling cn be decreased with help of modalities n manipulation cn place it back to normal hopefully.

Apply prasarini oil or pranacharya restopain oil on affected part then give hot fomentation. Take maharasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. 1-1 tab yograj guggul after lunch and dinner. Avoid tea. Coffee. Junk food. Spicy food. Fermented food. Take green vegetables. Drink juice. Eat fruits. Drink 7-8 glass of water in a day. Take 7 hours sleep minimum. Do pranayama early morning. Hi I can understand your problem 1) avoid activities that make your symptoms worse 2) apply ice packs 3) start physiotherapy treatment as electrotherapy will reduce pain inflammation 4) exercise and manual therapy will help in pain free movement. Arthritis can affect different types of joints like fingers, knees, elbows, hips and jaws. To know how to treat arthritis you need to find out what causes this condition. You need to also maintain a healthy body to avoid this condition.

Arthritis – Types and Causes:

The false assumption that all arthritis are alike has kept many people in the dark. The first step is to understand the type of arthritis one has. There are different symptoms to the different forms of arthritis. Many people don’t know that arthritis can affect anyone from young children to the elderly. Depending on the type of arthritis one can understand the severity of their condition. There are more than 100 types of arthritis but the most common ones are mentioned below:

Osteoarthritis:

The cartilage loses its elasticity and becomes stiff, which can be easily damaged. The cartilage is a shock absorber and it becomes weak due to this. When the cartilage weakens, the tendons and ligaments are stretched. This causes pain. Gradually the bones may start rubbing against each other which will cause severe pain. This is a very sever type of arthritis and can be cured only through medication and surgery.

Infectious arthritis:

Infectious arthritis is an infection in the tissues of a joint and the synovial fluid. It is caused by bacteria, fungi or viruses. They may spread through the bloodstream from an infected tissue and infect a joint. It is usually found in people who already have some type of arthritis and develop an infection through it that travels through the bloodstream.

Rheumatoid Arthritis:

What is rheumatoid arthritis? It is an inflammatory form of arthritis. The synovial membrane is attacked and will cause swelling and pain. If this condition is untreated it may lead to deformity. Rheumatoid arthritis is mostly common in women, rather than men. It is usually diagnosed after 40 years of age. However, children and elder people may also be affected by this type of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis can also affect children, this is another form mentioned below.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis:

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) affects a person under 16 years of age. It means that a child has arthritis. There are three different types of this form:

  1. Pauciarticular JRA – It is the most common and mildest of all. The child experiences pain in up to 4 joints.
  2. Polyarticular JRA – This type of arthritis affects more joints and is much severe. It worsens with time.
  3. Systemic JRA – It is the least common type of arthritis. It affects many joints and can spread to organs. This can be the most serious type of JRA.

Symptoms of Arthritis:

The symptoms of arthritis are easy to identify. There is pain and limited function of joints. This happens due to the inflammation of the joints. Some symptoms may affect various organs of the body which do not directly involve the joints. The symptoms in some patients with may include gland swelling, weight loss, fever, fatigue, feeling unwell, and even some symptoms from the abnormalities of organs like the lungs, heart, or kidneys.

Cracking or popping of joints is a form of joint manipulation, which produces a popping or cracking sound. People can pop many different joints in the body like hips, wrists, elbows, neck and back vertebrae, jaws, toes, shoulders, feet, ankles and Achilles tendon. Studies have shown that popping or cracking of joints does not result in arthritis, entirely. However, it does reduce the strength and causes weakness in the joints. Dandelion Leaves:

The best and effective method for treating arthritis is by using dandelion leaves. Dandelion leaves are high in vitamin A and C. The dandelion leaves need to be fresh and young, and can be used in salads. They will help the body to repair the damaged tissues by helping the liver clear toxins out of the blood. According to European herbalists the older leaves need to be steamed, as they are too tough to chew.

You can improve its taste by adding garlic or olive oil. One can also make dandelion tea and drink it. You need one teaspoon of dried leaves and 3 teaspoons of fresh leaves. Put them in boiling water, strain it and drink it.

Ginger:

Ginger is also seen as an effective treatment for arthritis. It acts as a host for other ailments. Using ginger in daily food will help alleviate arthritis pain. You can use it in sauces, salads, rice or even soups.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera helps in reducing inflammation and pain that will promote healing. It gives a good boost to the immune system and also the energy levels. Aloe Vera provides the right agents to the body to restore and repair it.

Camphor and Mustard Oil:

This mixture will help to improve the blood circulation in the affected area. It is also effective to reduce the stiffness and inflammation of the joint. Follow the instructions below to use the remedy effectively.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mustard oil
  • 10 grams camphor

Procedure:

Take one cup of mustard oil and add the camphor to it. Heat the oil till the camphor dissolves in it. Take this lukewarm oil and massage it in the affected area.

Potato Remedy:

To reduce the pain and inflammation a cold glass of potato flavored water is what you need. Try this great remedy to eliminate this arthritic pain.

Ingredients:

  •     5 Unpeeled potato slices
  •     1 glass cold water

Procedure:

Take the unpeeled potato slices and soak them in 1 glass of cold water overnight. You need to drink this water on an empty stomach every morning.

Green Gram and Garlic Cloves:

To improve this condition you can also try this simple home remedy with a mixture of garlic cloves and green gram. The ingredients and procedure are given below.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp green gram
  • 2 crushed garlic cloves
  • 250 ml water

Procedure:

Take 3 tablespoons of green gram in a bowl. Soak it in 250 ml of water overnight to get sprouted gram. Add the crushed garlic cloves to the sprouted gram. Mix it well. Consume this two times a day. To make it more edible you can add pepper for taste.

Eucalyptus Oil:

This is an old traditional home remedy for arthritis pain. You need to warm a small quantity of eucalyptus oil and apply a thin layer of it on the painful joint. Cover it with a plastic wrap to keep the oil on the joint. You need to keep applying heat to this joint again and again with a steaming towel. This relaxing pain relief routine will be really beneficial at bed time. It is the best remedy for maximum reduction of arthritis pain.

Celery:

The best plant to treat arthritis is Celery. Celery seeds and the other parts of the plant contain more than 25 anti-inflammatory agents. This provides a huge amount of potassium. This is very essential because potassium deficiency leads to arthritic pain.

The other major herbal medicines used for the treatment of arthritis are pineapples, red pepper, wild cucumber, mustard plaster, oregano, pineapple, wild yam, turmeric, wintergreen and yucca.
