I am 58 years old. I have pain in my knees whenever I climb a slope or staitrs. My blood uric acid count is 9. 0. How do I bring down my uric acid ?

Hi, I would recommend you to take 2 litres of water /day to bring down your uric acid level. For your knee pain is concerned, I would recommend you to visit nearby physiotherapy centre to take pain relieving modalities, and once your pain subsides start doing strengthening exercises. Its better to continue exercises regularly through out your life for being healthy. If you are obese, try to reduce weight gradually. Dont try to go for any supplements to reduce weight. Check your uric acid level and creatine levels next month to avoid complications of kidney. Regards rekha srinath

I am 74 years old. I had my total knee replacement on 2nd Feb. Although I have been doing physio regularly, I still have considerable pain. How long does it take usually for the pain to subside?

Hi Thanks for your query. Where did you get your TKR done from? Normally pain should be better in 6 weeks time and it should be almost gone in 3 months if everything is going well. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

Eat well as balanced diet (take protein and hydrate yourself, strengthen / condition your leg muscles - exercises (static cycling*/** under water walking upto pelvis or mid chest level;-10-15 mins take precaution )* avoid exertion, don't think of pain perception while on exercise, on exercising casually you have pain avoid that and have a rest. Have atleast 8 hours of sleep.

Backache /pain has several reasons like muscle spasm, spine issue, injury etc. Condition may get worst if it keep untreated. Ayurveda is one of most popular treatment for joint pain & backache. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity. Ayurvedic treatment not only gives complete relief from pain it also improves bone strength as well calcium absorption which is essential for all 206 bones & joint . You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects. 1) Do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min., afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) Start natural calcium supplement. 3) Do regular stretching exercise under observation

Dear, one thing you keep in mind that once cartilage degenerates it will not generate once again. But as all prescribed drug can maintain it. But if you want to stop degeneration ask the cause for degeneration to your doctor. In most of the cases, people have weak lower limb musculature and neglect demineralization leads to erosion. So better do not fall in confusion to know about these drug but go for exercises that will prevent further erosion.
