What are the symptoms and measures to cure blood cancer and what should I do now?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
People who have blood cancer can have problems with bleeding and serious infections. Seek immediate for symptoms such as uncontrolled bleeding, severe sweating, difficulty breathing, pale or blue lips or fingernails, high fever (greater than 101 degrees Fahrenheit), fast heart rate, confusion, loss or change in level of consciousness, or anxiety.. no measure, cure depends on so many factors. thanks

I had giant cell tumor at the neck of proximal femur. Surgery is performed within bone graft. Then hip spica is applied for 3 months. But after 5 months of operation local recurrence has started. What is the cause of it? Is hip replacement approval for me? By which process local recurrence is stopped? From where we get best treatment for it?

Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), MS - General Surgery, MBBS
General Surgeon, Mohali
It is a tough disease to control. It can recur in anybody. We are routinely doing Brachytherapy along with surgery to improve the results. Right now hip replacement is the surgery of choice but there is no guarantee that it will not recur again!

Hi, There are some types of instruments available in some places with which you can exercise and you will have significant relief if you spend time morning and evening doing these jaw opening exercises. You can find out in your city or order from Mumbai. We regularly prescribe to our head and neck cancer patients. Good Luck !

Please suggest the best recommended test or scan to identify the disease, if any. I just wanted to be rest assured that I am fit.

At your age group in absence of family history no screening test is recommended for cancer. But you should be aware and should not ignore any symptom

Hi Borne sarcom treatment given to 23 old male+5 chemo+5 radiation given. Now doctors asked to do operation so we hesitate due to risk factors so we decided not to do operation. Now doctors say to again start chemo. So we r confused whether chemo will be good or starting ayurvedic medicine will be good. And what r other risk of chemotherapy vs ayurvedic. CT/Scan, mri are done. PLEASE GIVE VALUABLE ADVICE OR prescription TO US. Thank you.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, sarcoma is a fast growing tumor in spite of chemotherapy and radiotherapy recurrence is a rule. If after surgery there is no spread anywhere in the body surgery should be done and diseased part completely removed with enough normal surrounding tissue. Spread to lungs is common. Only chemotherapy is time pass. Ayurvedic success is not established and is again time pass.

6 Tips to Reduce the Risk of Cancer

European Society for Medical Oncology certification, DM - Oncology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
6 Tips to Reduce the Risk of Cancer

We live in an age where every single individual, more or less, is exposed to the risk of cancer. It is probably an unfavorable lifestyle we lead that deprives us of good health. This might alarm many but considerable changes in lifestyle can help you realize cancer as a preventable disease. Cancer does not only make you undergo severe suffering but it also affects your friends and family. The pallor of misery spreads wider than you think.

  • Abstain from tobacco: Consuming raw tobacco or smoking tobacco can be equally detrimental to your health. Tobacco increases your chances of contracting the disease. As is known, passive smoking can also affect your health adversely. Tobacco can be the potential cause behind cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, lungs, oral cavity and even the pancreas. It might harm your kidneys and cervix. It is upon you to quit tobacco at the earliest possible. One should also try and persuade friends and relatives to give up smoking.
  • Drink alcohol in moderation: Complete abstinence from alcohol might not be possible if you have already been ushered into your work- life. The society might require you to be an occasional drinker. It is important to drink in moderation. Crossing the limit can propel consequences as serious as cancer of the stomach, pancreas, liver and the heart.
  • A balanced and nutritious diet: Deciding on a plant- based diet or a Mediterranean diet can aid your fight against the risk of cancer. A Mediterranean diet will involve green leafy vegetables, lots of fresh fruits, whole grains, mixed nuts, legumes and also the use of extra- virgin olive oil. Fish can be a safe bet but red meat should be avoided. One must also try to avoid processed meat as they tend to make you prone to the risk of cancer.
  • Immunization: Hepatitis B and HPV or Human papilloma virus vaccines are extremely necessary to protect you against the sexually transmitted types of cancer.
  • Sun protection: Caring for your skin doesn't arise from vanity. Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent kinds of cancer; the chances of this disease can be restricted by remaining in shade especially during midday, by wearing covered clothes and by using a good sunscreen lotion repeatedly while outside.
  • Exercise diligently: Did you think it was okay to have weaker muscles and bulging layers of fat? If yes, you probably have grown numb to the inadequacies you face in result. Unchecked fat can lead to obesity which further complicates health conditions. Metabolic activity differs from person to person. Regular exercising can help regulate metabolism according to the needs of your body. Physical exercise protects you against the risk of breast and colon cancer. Moderate or vigorous physical activity for 150 to 75 minutes a week respectively can reduce the risk of cancer. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Can Ayurveda Treat Cancer?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Can Ayurveda Treat Cancer?

The development of abnormal cells that can spread to other areas of the body is known as cancer. It has about 100 types and includes cancer of the skin, lung, prostate gland and so on. Compared to normal body cells that follow a proper path of cell division, growth, and termination, cancer cells don't die but continue to develop and divide.

Holistic treatment of cancer involves purification and strengthening of body's immune system.

Ayurvedic treatment of cancer comprises an all-around approach keeping in mind your temperament and body characteristics, the affected energies in the body as well as the tissues involved. More importantly, the treatment focuses not only on the malignant spot but your entire body system. This is because Ayurveda believes in restoring harmony to your entire being for the ailment to be treated effectively so as to prevent its recurrence.

The treatment plan involves the purification of the body and of the toxins that influence the cells to attack your body. Certain blood cleansing herbs are administered alongside the recommendation of a detoxifying diet. To stimulate blood flow in your body, herbs that improve blood circulation are prescribed by a practitioner. This renders an efficient removal of toxins, prevents stagnant blood from forming and assists in the healing process of your tissues. Since it's a debilitating disease, herbs and minerals that boost your immunity are also suggested.

What are the holistic methods of treating cancer according to Ayurveda?

The treatment methods for cancer include:

- Elimination of toxins from the body through Panchakarma (a therapy that involves five cleansing procedures)
- Abstinence from lifestyle and foods that lead to the imbalance of the tridosha namely, vata (air), pitta (heat) and kapha (water and earth forces)
- Restitution of the functions of your digestive system
- Rejuvenation through a special form of treatment called rasayanas
- Recommendations on Ayurvedic preparations that can be taken along with radiotherapy or chemotherapy
- Suggestions on Ayurvedic medications for minimizing the side effects of the various cancer therapies

In addition to these, treatment also involves suggesting ways to relax the mind. Yoga, meditation, and praanayam (an ancient practice involving ways to control your breath) are some of the ways that are recommended for bringing about deep personal healing for cancer patients.

Hi Madam / Sir, Recently my Mom diagnose with a Brest Cancer, Her age is 64, Now all tests are going at Cancer Hospital, their doctors are suggesting to go for "KEMO" but now her weight is 45 kg. Few doctors are saying to go for KEMO some are saying no to go with it. Kindly suggest that shall she can able to cure with Ayurvedic treatment without going for KEMO , Doctor's are saying she is in second stage. Please help me sir.

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, please let me caution you that, if your mother is in stage 2 breast cancer she can be cured with good survival. There are no studies that have shown cure of cancer by ayurvedic medicines, so please do not do any such thing that you may regret later. We see many patients who do the same mistake and end up with cancer spreading everywhere leading to a painful death! please do the treatment as per guidelines and the concerned oncologist. Regards.

I have been having a small lump under the skin in my back just below my waist on the left side for about an year now. It is small and moves when touched. There is no pain though. I am just concerned that can it be symptoms of cancerous tumor? What type of a doctor should I visit. Your help is highly appreciated.

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Oncologist, Delhi
Please get an fnac of the lump done from any standard good pathology lab. From your description it seems like a lipoma. If the fnac confirms it and the swelling is small and not causing much trouble, you may ignore it. If you want to get it removed, please go ahead, it will be a minor surgery. In case the report is different, please review.

My wife's skin under the breasts becomes reddish-type. There is no itching, but the reddishness increases in case of more sweat, and hot weather. She has tried candid powder, but it does not get fully cured, and comes back as soon as she stops. What should she do to cure it?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, MRCS (Edinburgh), Fellowship In Breast Surgery, Fellowship In Onco-plastic Breast Surgery
Oncologist, Gurgaon
Sorry to hear about your wife's problem. This is commonly seen during the summer months and occurs due to increased sweating. It is also common in patients who wear under-wired bra's. Although it can be a common infection but because it is not getting cured, I would strongly urge you to get an ultrasound of the breast done to rule out a lump or any other condition. If your wife is pregnant, please make sure that you get an ultrasound and not a x-ray mammogram (because of radiation exposure).

Dear lybrate-user, surgery will be very extensive. The best is radiotherapy only, which is both internal aswel as external depending upon the stage. If your doctor feels it necessary chemotherapy may be added.

I am cancer patient. What precautions I should take in diet and one more question doctor I have gone through first chemotherapy but no improvement is there.

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
Hi. You should eat healthy balanced food. Eat whole foods, whole wheat. Cook the vegetables well. Avoid raw vegetable as you are on chemotherapy as well. Keep your immunity well by eating food rich in antioxidants. Eat fruits and berries. You have to be patient. Just one chemotherapy will not give you magical results. All the best.
