Synvisc is not a steroid. It's natural sugar for lubrication. Also sometimes other steroidal injections are given. Best is knee replacement. But the hba1c is on the higher side, please keep her sugar in control. Also send me other reports in private chat and I will send a prescription of excellent medicines that will help her immediately. Steroids can't be given in your wife's case because they will increase the sugar levels. So medicine has to be given very carefully. Please consult me for further treatment.

Dear Lybrateuser, - To stabilise your sugar follow some dietary precautions - have more of fibrous foods including vegetables & fruits (avoid banana, mango chickoo & grapes), legumes including pulses, lentils, peas, sprouts, have beans regularly as they are low glycemic & help in stabilising blood sugar, have low fat milk & milk products like yogurt, cottage cheese, butter milk, lean meats like seafoods twice a week (avoid red meats) - avoid fried, processed, junk foods, sweets, bakery items, foods containing saturated & trans fats - use olive, sunflower or canola oil for cooking not more than a tablespoon per day - avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - try to reduce weight by dieting & exercise - do regular exercise walking, jogging, swimming 30-40 min, moderate weight lifting for 15-20 min at least twice a week, also do yoga & deep breathing for 5-10 min daily morning - sleep well for 7-8 hrs at night - regularly monitor your blood sugar & take medication on time.

You may be having fasting impaired glucose tolerance, better to get a glucose tolerance test done with 75 g glucose feed. This will give a clear picture. Fasting impaired glucose tolerance means there is a possibility of developing diabetes at a later date. Hence you should exercise regularly, avoid weight increase, avoid direct sweets as much as possible, avoid deep fried food and smoking & alcohol.

Mr. lybrate-user, Since you have started treatment with thyroxine tablets (50 mcg), it will take some time get the TSH to desired level of 3 to 4 mU/L, when all the symptoms will start disappearing. Once on treatment TSH should come down to the above mentioned level, to be free from all the symptoms. Once that happens you will feel quite normal and healthy. Plus you should exercise regularly so that there is no weight gain, because hypothyroidism does lead to weight increase. Try and maintain a BMI of <23 kgs/M2. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.

Increase the calories in your diet while watching your carbohydrate intake. Gaining weight is simply a matter of eating more calories than you burn, but having diabetes complicates the equation because it's not safe for diabetics to eat whatever foods they want. Recommends limiting sweets like candy and chocolate, as they can spike your blood sugar levels too quickly, and instead of eating foods with refined carbohydrates like white rice, white bread and pasta, Eat more whole grains like whole wheat bread, proteins like chicken and fats like olive oil. Continue to check your blood sugar levels as often as your doctor or dietitian recommends.
