Your uric acid levels are not slightly high. They are Significantly higher than normal. Uric acid above 6.0 levels puts you in risk of getting frequent gout attacks. It could be also the cause of your joint pain. However full arthritis tests are recommended as many times a person may have more than one type of arthritis. Another cause of multiple joint pain is inflammatory arthritis.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels mentioned are very high, suggesting totally uncontrolled diabetes. If diabetes is remains uncontrolled, then it can cause serious complications affecting eyes, kidney, peripheral nerves, blood supply to legs, heart and problem with sex organ. Therefore, it is essential to control the glucose levels effectively and early. Ideally FBG should be <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. For better treatment you should consult a good diabetologist either at your place or if you are interested in online consultation, then I can guide you in controlling the condition effectively. For that you will have to come in private conversation (paid consultation), with following details: FBG, Pp blood glucose, HbA1c% (which have been mentioned), weight, height, extent of daily physical activity, lipid profile, BP readings, dietary pattern and details of current medications if any. Based on those details I will be able to guide specifically in terms of drugs, diet and exercise and help in controlling the glucose levels. Thanks.

Dear user. Whether you are diabetic or not, it is not advisable to take liquor or alcoholic drinks at all because they are harmful for your liver, and whole of your body. Even a single drop of alcohol is poison for your liver. Quit alcohol. Take care.

#1. Once you take Extroxin, your hypothyroid problem is solved. It will no more add to your weight. #2. Green coffee bean tablets will not reduce any weight. Please avoid spending money and time on such stuff. There is no medicine/herb for weight loss. - The best solution for Weight loss is Simple Diet + Daily exercise. - Cut down Oils/Sugar/Maida/Ghee/Salty stuffs from your diet. - Cut down Puris/Parathas/Pizzas/Burgers/Fried Rice. - Add more Fruits /Salads/Proteins to your diet. First of all you need to cut the intake of sodium (if you are suffering from high blood pressure cos you have not mentioned whether you are hypotensive or hypertensive) and carbs in your diet. Then include yoga n exercise in your daily regimen. It is helpful for both blood pressure n diabetes. There r many yogasanas the help in stimulating the pancreas to keep the blood glucose levels in control. Cut down the rice intake for dinner n can have in the afternoon. Here are few tips which can help you keep your blood sugar levels at control. 1. Take fenugreek seeds 1 tspn in the morning on empty stomach 30 min before food. 2. Mix equal quantity of turmeric powder n amla powder n take it with warm water in the morning 30 min before breakfast. 3. Take cinnamon tea thats cinnamon soaked in hot water for 10 mind drink this 1 hour before breakfast and dinner.

Ayurvedic medicines together with allopathic medicines can sometimes cause drug interactions. Hence allopathic doctors usually do not know about the content of ayurvedic medicines, it will be very difficult to find out what kind of interactions are there. It could be very harmful for the body. It is better you stick to one of them.

Lybrate - Dr. Anirban Biswas talks about Thyroid Problems

Hello friends, I am Dr. Anirban Biswas. I am practicing diabetologist in Fortis C-Doc Hospital in New Delhi.

Today I am going to discuss with you about thyroid disease as you know thyroid disease is very common these days and most of the patients when they check their TSH is high, doctors suddenly declare that they have hypothyroidism. Now basically you have to understand what is thyroid disease? Thyroid is a disease which is a cause of a poor functioning of thyroid glands. It is a butterfly shaped organ which is located in our throat, basic function of a thyroid gland is to produce thyroid hormone and when thyroid hormone is deficient it is known as hypothyroidism. Basically the T4 and T3 are the active thyroid hormones.

TSH is a thyroid stimulating hormones which is not secreted by the thyroid gland but it is secreted by the pituitary gland. In response to the lesser secretion of thyroid, it is a feedback mechanism which is developed in our body. So whenever a patient has hypothyroidism, T3 and T4 levels are low or normal. TSH is high and it is compensating for the lack of the thyroid hormones. So this stage is known as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. And the symptoms of sub-clinical hypothyroidism is that patients may have sudden weight gain, patient may feel weak, lethargic, dryness of skin, patients may have other difficulty in managing their memory, routine activities, issues with their sexual and hormonal problems as well, heat and cold intolerance may also be there. So all these things are very common with thyroid patients, most of the patients come with the problem of weight and usually thyroid patients improve after substituting the thyroid hormone which is in the form of tablets.

Now a days, once a weekly tablets are also available for thyroid. Many of the doctors and patients don’t know but I have started once weekly which has a very good response and better come plans and I recommend the patients to take once weekly. Management of thyroid is easy but dose has to be titrated with frequent checkup of the thyroid function. And I am organizing thyroid checkup camps in my clinic on regular basis. The other problem of thyroid is hyperthyroidism which is the reverse of the hypothyroidism and in this, thyroid gland secretes the excessive thyroid hormone which causes the reverse action like weight loss, increases basal metabolism rate, eyes may start to protrude. These are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. For this also, treatment is available.

Other things we should be careful about is that if we are having thyroid problem then we should avoid having too much of soya product and few vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli and we should take our medicine regularly.
If you have any queries regarding thyroid, you can please contact me through Lybrate.
Thank you.

MBBS (Gold Medalist, Hons), MS (Obst and Gynae- Gold Medalist), DNB (Obst and Gynae), Fellow- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (ACOG, USA), FIAOG
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
Last week I got a call from one of my patients, who conceived after long period of infertility. She called me to remind me that, that very days was the birthday of her son, that is the wealth that she gained after long battle. And even the son tried to talk to me over phone with his soft voice. And this success is really rewarding for any Infertility Specialists.

Now, the inability to conceive- INFERTILITY, the problem is prevalent in our society and is increasing. But majority of common people don't have clear idea about the concept of fertility and the problems. Ability to have pregnancy depends on many factors both in male and female. Even in a normal couple (where both husband and wife are totally normal), there is chance of pregnancy if they practise regular intercourse in a particular time of the menstrual cycle (around ovulation). And even with that, the best chance is only 15-20%. But within one year of regular trying, 80% of couples manage to conceive. And out the rest 20%, 10 will conceive within next one year and the rest 5 in 3rd year. So, ultimately 5% of couple will have difficulty in conception.

So, we advise, if you tried regularly for one year and there is no pregnancy, don't get depressed. It may be due to some defects in husband, wife or both; or may be due to chance factor. But we have to make sure that there is no defect in any of the partners. If there is any defect, we will treat that. If no defect is found, then we have to increase the chance.

So, infertility treatment is actually based on stepwise manner. We initially advise some tests and then advise a treatment. If that treatment fails, we move to next treatment.

So, all the time, you have to keep patience. Eventually, majority of the couples will conceive. Don't give up hope. You have to win the race ultimately

Why change? continue the same if it is under control. But, you definitely have to start on antiplatelet drugs since you are a diabetic in order to protect the heart. You definitely should lose weight. You are atleast 20 kg overweight.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Any thyroid growth either a nodule or a cyst, it is better to consult an endocrinologist nearby. Also get a thyroid assay and report those results, that will give some idea. Further if the lesion is growing, then an Ultrasono graphy may have to be done and if needed fine needle aspiration cytology may be needed. Mostly cysts are not harmful, but a detailed investigation has to be done. Thanks.
