I have thyroid for the last 4 years. I have done a TSH test that results 253 units. My doctor has prescribed thyroxine 125 mg tablets. I have swelling in the right side of the neck and my throat always looks swollen. Is this normal? Can it be the tonsils?

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is necessary to bring down TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. For the thyroid swelling it is better to get an Ultrasonography done, to see what is the problem. Swelling is not normal. Thanks.

Hello. I'm a thyroid patient from last 5 yrs. My thyroid was always in control. I took 25 mcg tablet. But frm last year it was high so I took 50 mcg. Again I went for a test. It's normal now. Should I continue with 50 mcg? And frm few days my bp is 140/90. Is it due to thyroid. I'm 23 years old. Pls help me I'm really really worried. Thank you.

Hello, Dosage of thyroxine should not be frequently changed on your own. Since you have not mentioned TSH level, it is difficult to comment. When on treatment TSH should be between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in check. BP 140/90 mm Hg is high for your age. If it remains at the same level then you need to take treatment for that. Plus reduce salt intake. Thanks.

From the information you have given, your husband seems to have borderline diabetes. He need to take care of his diet, for diabetes as well as constipation. He can drink 2 glasses of warm water daily in the morning and also his water intake per day should be minimum 2.5-3 litres. He needs high fibrous diet which contains lots of leafy vegetables and salads. 45 min either yoga or walk will help in controlling his conditions.

Your weight for the height is high, you should focus on reducing your weight. Start with walking and exercising, that will help increase the hdl which is the good cholesterol, and it will also help reduce ldl which is bad cholesterol that results into blockage of arteries. Get your blood pressure and sugar checked regularly. You might need some medicines in order to keep the sugar and bp in check.
