Mr. lybrate-user, To recommend diet to a diabetic person following details are needed: FBS, PP levels, HbA1c%, current treatment, level of daily exercise & present dietary pattern. Without these details it is not possible to suggest a dietary plan. Only certain general recommendations should be kept in mind are: avoid sweets completely, avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas), red meat, fructose syrup containing products and highly processed food products. She should consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day). Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Avoid all items made of maida. Thanks.

For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fibre. Walking for 30 mins a day for at least 5 days in a week is recommended. Medicine will depend upon blood sugar reports.

In diabetes diet plays a very important role. You need to be very particular about food choices & timings to control blood glucose levels. Even medicines will not work properly unless you are particularly about food choices. I would suggest you to properly follow the do's and don't of diabetes so to control the blood glucose levels.

Hello lybrate-user, firstly find out the reason for muscle pain and which body part. As age increases oyur muscle mass reduces. So diet should be sufficient in proteins. Some flexibilty exercises will also help like yoga. Make sure he does not get hypoglycemic due to total sugar avoiding. Let me know if you want further consultation.

You need not to take medicines now. Follow a diabetic diet, get a diet chart online. And loose some weight, do regular exercise for 30 minutes daily. It will be sufficient for you to improve your blood sugar levels.

I heard 2 cases recently where I was told by the patients themselves that they were non-vegetarian earlier. By this reason or that, they stopped it and followed strict veg diet. Meanwhile they developed Diabetes. When they consulted physicians, they were asked about earlier lifestyle and current lifestyle, the physicians asked them to resume non-vegetarian diet as the body was adjusted to non-veg diet and in its absence insulin insufficiency prevailed even though they had started taking alternate protein rich diet.

Mr. Lybrate-user, I am not aware of anything like that can happen. Change from non-vegetarian to vegetarian food causes any alteration in insulin secretion. This is most unlikely to happen. In fact many people are changing over to vegetarian diet as it is supposed to be better, but for proteins. I have not come across anything of that in any studies. Thanks.

Hello, Yes the herbal supplements can be used if one wants to while on treatment for hypothyroidism. As regards the "best diet" a healthy balanced diet is good. One should avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, radish, mustard & coffee. Always use whole grain flour for making chapati & roti. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads. Thanks.
