I am 64 years old. I am having diabetes and also spondylitis. Does slow walking really reduces Sugar?
It's not about walking slow or brisk. Brisk walking is necessary to reduce weight and also to keep sugar levels under control. But it is also important to walk according to your age and energy. Walking accordingly can serve the purpose and walking more than your strength can result in complications. So decide the pace of your walk according to your age and energy. Meanwhile bring changes in your diet, follow home remedies to maintain your blood sugar level.

Diabetes requires daily maintenance

Diabetes requires daily maintenance that includes monitoring your blood sugar, eating a healthy diet, exercising, and of course staying on top of any complications with your heart, eyes, and other organs. Controlling your weight is another key aspect of managing type 2 diabetes. If you’re overweight, losing weight — even just 10 to 15 pounds — can help improve your insulin sensitivity and glycemic control, reduce triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, and lower your blood pressure. A healthy diet for diabetes will help you manage your weight and lead you toward foods that have a positive effect on your glucose levels, while guiding you away from those foods that are likely to cause dangerous spikes in your blood sugar. look at these nine foods you should avoid if you have type 2 diabetes are below -

Sugary Foods

Fruit Juice

Dried Fruit

White Rice, Bread, and Flour

Full-Fat Dairy

Fatty Cuts of Meat

Packaged Snacks and Baked Goods

Fried Foods

Hi. Good morning. What can be done to reduce hypothyroid? Please suggest some ways or remedies to reduce it

MBBS, MD, DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Indore
Hi. Good morning. What can be done to reduce hypothyroid? Please suggest some ways or remedies to reduce it
Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. 1. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. 2. Up the protein - Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products and legumes. 3. Get fat - Fat is your friend and cholesterol is the precursor to hormonal pathways; if you’re getting insufficient fat and cholesterol, you could be exacerbating hormonal imbalance, which includes thyroid hormones. Natural, healthful fats include olive oil; ghee; avocados; flax seeds; fish; nuts and nut butters; hormone- and antibiotic-free full fat cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese (yes, full fat, not skim); and coconut milk products 4. Nutrient-up - While nutritional deficiencies may not be the cause of hypothyroidism, not having enough of these micronutrients and minerals can aggravate symptoms: vitamin D, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, zinc, copper, vitamin A, the B vitamins, and iodine 5. Go gluten-free - The molecular composition of thyroid tissue is almost identical to that of gluten. So for those with Hashimoto’s, it’s a case of mistaken identity. Eating gluten can increase the autoimmune attack on your thyroid. 6. Be mindful of goitrogens - goitrogens are foods that can interfere with thyroid function. Goitrogens include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, strawberries, peaches, peanuts, radishes, and soybeans 7. Look at your stressors and practice relaxation. The thyroid is a very sensitive gland and is exceptionally reactive to the stress response. Besides this, do work out and if you want homeopathic medicine, then do contact us.

I am 55 years. Go urination every hour at night. No diabetes, or prostate problem.
Usually nocturnal frequency of urine is due to enlargement of prostate. You get sonography for the same. And also give urine for complete evaluation.

Precautions for diabetic patients during Ramzan fast

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
“Patients with type 1 diabetes should avoid fasting. However, those type 2 diabetes can fast,”
All diabetic patients who fast should be aware of certain facts if they fast during Ramzan, he further added.
All patients with diabetes should consult with their family physician regarding the Ramzan fast and learn the warning symptoms.
Type 2 diabetes will be controlled by diet and may require no special precautions.
Patients at risk of diabetes should avoid overeating to prevent post meal high blood pressure, after the predawn and/or sunset meal.
The exercise program for patients with diabetes on diet control should be modified to avoid lower blood sugar level. Exercise should be done 2 hours after the sunset meal.
Food restriction and dehydration may cause some cardiac risk in the elderly.
The choice of drugs in diabetes may require consultation with a doctor. Drugs that act by increasing the production of insulin are to be preferred. Some patients on metformin may fast safely with minimal complications. However, two-thirds of the total daily dose should be given just before the sunset meal and rest one-third before the predawn meal. Patients on pioglitazone may require no change in dose. Patients on sulfonylureas may require medical clearance before commencing fast.
Insulin dose also needs to be modified during the fast. Usually two doses of insulin, one before each meal, are sufficient.
If the blood sugar falls below 60, then the fast should be immediately broken.
Fast should also be broken if blood sugar rises to more than 300.
Patients should avoid fasting on sick days.

I am 43 years old I have severely affected in back pain and joint pain due to uric acid. Kindly give your valuable guidance for control the above.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Mr. lybrate-user, Unless hypothyroidism is well controlled with TSH level brought around 3 to 4 mU/L, all the symptoms will not be in check. So you will have to check TSH levels after 6 weeks and if still high, then dose of thyroxine will have to be increased. It I appears that starting dose given is too low. It should have been over 100 mcg. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Aap ki blood glucose level dono khali pet aur khane ke baad jyada hai. Isaka matalab abhi jo dava aap le rahi ho, use ya to badhana padega ya badalana padega. For good control khali pet blood glucose 100 mg ke pas rehana chahiye aur khane ke baad 150 mg to 160 mg / 100 ml and H bA1c%<6.8 hona chahiye. Diabetes me meetha (sweets) khana acchha nahi. Usase glucose ki matra bahut jaldi badhati hai. Aap ka present treatment ko thoda badalna padega esa lagata hai Thanks.

Namaste Madam, No, The Random sugar test, tests done through a home Glucometer, are not the same as lab FBS. The biochemical process and principle applicable for each vary. However, each of the test has its importance in properly indicating the glycaemic control achieved by the patient.
