What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), is an autoimmune disease, where our own immune cells produce antibodies against thyroid secreting cells destroying the the hormone secreting cells leading to hypothyroidism. There are antibodies seen against thyroid peroxidase enzyme. (anti tpo abs). Plus there is infiltration of lymphocytes in thyroid cells, making the gland firm and globulated. One of the causes for ht is supposed to be excess iodine intake due to iodinated salt. Treatment is to supplement thyroxine hormone regularly. This is the main cause of thyroid deficiency in usa. Iodine has no role in the treatment of ht.

I have taken my blood test in that I found that I have minor thyroid which was 5.03 so what are thing I do or wht r fruit I eat n what r thing I avoid so that I will not take medicine n I control.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Tsh value of 5.03 milli units/l, is just above the normal limit. This condition is called as sub clinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is advised. Overt hypothyroidism is considered when tsh level crosses 10 milli units/l. The precautions to be taken include avoiding soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, peanuts, radish, mustard and coffee. Use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Plus consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits (all types of fruits). In addition daily 1 hour exercise is a must. That will help inremaining fit and healthy. No medicine is required for now. Thanks for the question.

This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help and along side you can do hot water fermentation. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain ie. Due to the nerve compression. You have to go for traction and also you can do IFT. Please consult the near by therapist for quick relief. It is suggestible to go for cervical muscle strengthening exercises.

Precautions and daily care for diabetes type 2.which kind of medicines works well.

Precautions and daily care for diabetes type 2.which kind of medicines works well.
Hello, If one has diabetes then most important is to start appropriate treatment with either oral anti-diabetics or Insulin depending upon the severity of hyperglycemia, plus strict dietary control and regular exercise for at least 1 hour a day. Other precautions are- avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas) and refrain from alcohol and smoking. Dietary intake should match the daily needs based on ideal body weight, extent of exercise and blood glucose levels. As regards medicines there are a large number of them, but the choice depends on the specific needs of a patient. Unless all the details are made known - like fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, height, weight, extent of daily exercise and dietary pattern, there is no way to recommend any medication. Plus in this communication we are supposed to give only general suggestions/guidelines, but no prescriptions. For that one has to come in a private conversation. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, To increase weight, increased food intake should normally help. But if one wants to build a muscular body and increase weight, then exercising regularly under the guidance of a professional trainer is necessary. Plus total protein and fat intake has to go up. Thanks.

Deally fasting and pp sugar levels are better to come to know if one has a hyperglycemia. But even random sugar also is a good indicator. Rbs <140 mg is considered normal. Your reading is quite good. There appears to be no problem.

What are the symptoms of diabetes and how it it be cured does it take too long to cure.
Increase thirst, increased frequency of urination are some initial symptoms of diabetes but it can vary from being completely asymptomatic to non specific symptoms like weakness, loss of weight, tingling in feet, dry mouth, blurry vision, burning during urination. You need to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent such metabolic diseases. Type 1 usually occurs at younger age due to insulin deficiency and treated with insulin injections. It can't be cured completely but you can keep it controlled by taking these precautions.
