I am having high uric acid how to keep it under control should I avoid non veg to control it.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

I am having high uric acid how to keep it under control should I avoid non veg to control it.
The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then 'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

Hi Doctor, I had fasting blood glucose of 140 on 21st July 2017 for which I was advised to skip rice & non vegetarian...
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels mentioned suggest you have a pre-diabetic state. Diabetes is diagnosed if FBG is equal to or more than 126 mg & PP 200 mg and above & HbA1c% 6.5% and above. So your present situation is pre-diabetic state. At this stage, if one follows a modified lifestyle, then diabetes can be prevented. For that you need to maintain near normal weight (65 kgs), exercise regularly for over 1 hour and take a proper balanced diet and avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and foods made out of maida. Also avoid sweetened aerated drinks (colas), alcohol and smoking. Red meat also is not good. Thanks.

6 Causes Of Infertility!

EMDR, FRCOG (LONDON) (Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), MFSRH , Diploma in psychosexual therapy, Medical diploma in clinical Hypnosis, Diploma in Evidence Based Healthcare, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

6 Causes Of Infertility!

Infertility is characterized by the inability to get pregnant even after unprotected intercourse for over a year. Repeated miscarriages along with other factor can often be the reason behind infertility in women.

Probable causes of Infertility in Women:

  1. The most common cause of infertility in women is an abnormal uterus. Congenital flaws, such as septate uterus can lead to repeated miscarriages. The normal pH level of the uterus is approximately in the range of 6.6 to 7.6. So a pH level below or above this range can lead to an abnormal uterus.

  2. Ovulation defects (such as the eggs not properly maturing in the ovaries or the ovaries not releasing mature eggs) are other causes as well.

  3. Another possible cause is Endometriosis, a condition wherein the tissues which line the inner walls of the uterus start to grow on the outsides of the uterus, such as in the pelvis or the abdomen.

  4. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a condition wherein the ovaries become enlarged with tiny cysts growing on them, is another important cause for infertility. Hormonal imbalances are at the root of this condition.

  5. A block or damage to the fallopian tubes can prevent the sperm to properly fertilize the egg thus, leading to infertility.

  6. Unhealthy lifestyle habits such as obesity or being underweight, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and not following a healthy diet are other important causes of infertility.
