What's are sign/symptoms of thyroids? I have thyroid more than 100, having lots of hair fall, how to prevent hair fall?
Hello it is sign of thyroid disorder to get hair fall, dry skin, weight gain or loss, irritability etc. So, first of all, it's important to control your thyroid illness. Investigate your thyroid level first (serum tsh, t3, t4) first. Also go for other blood test like complete blood count etc. It's better to consult a dermatologist in person to start treatment for hair fall along with thyroid treatment.

Mr. lybrate-user, There a few studies which have shown that cinnamon does help in reducing blood glucose. But there other studies which show that there is hardly any benefit. It may be helpful in giving some additional benefit. About 4 g (1 tea spoonful) powder may be taken 2 or 3 times a day. But do not stop the anti-diabetic treatment. Thanks.

My husband has diabetes for the past 10 years. Can you please tell me how a typical diet of a diabetic person should be. How much sugar is allowed. He is 43/years old.

My husband has diabetes for the past 10 years. Can you please tell me how a typical diet of a diabetic person should ...
Hi. Your husband is carrying about 15 Kgs of extra weight on his body that will put pressure on all his internal organs. Extra weight also causes increase in Diabetes problem. Reduction in weight by even 5 Kgs can significantly reduce pressure on the organs. Next Issue is. Diabetes is not simply a 'Sugar' Problem. It is a problem of excess Carbohydrates. That includes excess of rice, roti, maida, sugar, sweets, juices, colas, potatoes etc Any excess carbohydrate/sugar stuff makes Diabetes worse. The solution is to have complex carbs like corn, multigrain atta, raagi, fibrous fruits like Apple, Papaya, Mausambi. You have to avoid over-sweet fruits like. Mango, banana, dates, chikoo etc. You have to completely cut down all Pure maida stuff like bhatura, samosa, white bread etc. Also he can take about 10-15 Almonds/cashew per day. Add some protiens in every meal like dals, matar, paneer, mushrooms, soya bean, eggs etc. He needs to do at least 60 minutes of active exercise everyday. Health is wealth. Take care of it now. Prevention is better than cure. If things don't improve visit a local dietician who can help him with a diet + exercise plan. Healthy living is the best investment with great results.

lybrate-user, Your blood glucose levels are normal. There is no pregnancy related diabetes. Your TSH is slightly high. Ideally TSH should be between 0.1 to 2mU/L in first trimester, 0.3 to 3 mU/L in second and third trimester. There may be a need to take hormonal supplement for the period of pregnancy. Thanks.

I'm 43 years old male diabetic having problem under my foot feeling burning sensation under foot.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

I'm 43 years old male diabetic having problem under my foot feeling burning sensation under foot.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If you have been having diabetes for a long time, then there is a possibility of developing peripheral neuropathy, which causes burning pain in the feet as well as tingling and numbness. Because of long standing diabetes that particularly if blood glucose is not well controlled then such symptoms are bound to occur. Ideally in diabetes blood glucose levels should be maiintained in following manner: FBG:<100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. If one does not achieve these levels consistently then neuropathy is more likely to develop early. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, If you have acute attack of gout, then you need to control the pain and inflammation with certain antiinflammatory drugs preferably with an injection. Then follow it up with tablets till the severity of acute attack is controlled. This is possible only with visiting your local doctor. Then you may also have to take drugs to reduce uric acid concentration in the blood. Plus avoid high purine (high protein) containing foods like organ meat, red meat, certain sea foods like sardines, salmon, scallops, herrings, haddock, mushrooms and mussels. Also avoid alcohol and aerated drinks (colas). Thanks.

Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Losing Extra Weight:-The most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health is to lose your extra weight. This will not only lower your blood pressure but also helps lowering your cholesterol too. For woman: waist of 80 cm or more & for man: waist of 90 cm or more are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :-the timings at which you have your meals should be set fixed and at regular intervals each day. This will considerably improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Splitting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair and consistent amount , improves your metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-There should be no long gaps between meals. Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time .Try to have moderate amount of food each time u eat. It will help maintain your blood sugar at a healthy level and won’t let it to fluctuate. Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is very important and a fast way to trim down calories, extra weight and controlling glucose level. Add whole grain foods in your diet. Avoid carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks .Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran, flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheat flour. This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated.
