Psychiatrist,
More than 50 conditions can cause or mimic the symptoms of dementia. A small percentage of dementias are reversible. Symptoms subside when the underlying problem is treated. Two common examples are dementia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). Getting the right diagnosis is important so that you know what options you have.

I suspect that you are one of many who have been taking medicines but not working with a counselor in tandem. You need both counseling and medical intervention. The combination is ideal for the cure to be complete. In fact counseling will need to go on for a long time to develop skills and techniques to cope with everyday challenges of your life. If you remain episode-free for three years at least, you can be weaned off of the medication. So I assume that for all of these many years you have been letting the medicine do all the work on your depression and very little effort from your side. This will not do at all. So please start counseling immediately. In the meantime please do the following that can be done all by yourself as you desire: You must be active and work towards your reformation. Many lifestyle changes need to be made to progress away for the condition. When you are depressed, you will feel lazy though I would like to call it lethargy. There is an inertia and lack of energy to even think, let alone act. You are required to literally do the opposite of what you feel like doing. Depression makes you want to withdraw, lie down, sleep, become lethargic, slow down, make you too lazy to even think etc. So when I suggested doing the opposite, you will need to fight this disease. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. If you are young and you can do it with some commitment. The doctor and counselor are there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with them is very critical for your success.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

Stress is a major problem that causes mental distractions and you will need to work on that with a counselor for the best results. I am very very afraid of lot of things in my life. I have lot of phobias and my mind is completely collapsed of fear all the time. Even though certain things doesn't matter for me but my brain is not accepting and creating more fear. I don't have friends, I am single and have none to share my fear. Please help me how to stabilise my mind and to stop fear. I am now more afraid of local thieves and slum people. Nowadays more bike thieves arising and these guys would kill people for money just like that. Lots of crimes and I AM TIRED OF BEING cautious ALL THE TIME. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't go out. I couldn't speak in public. .I couldn't park my bike or car and do my work. My mind just threatens me all the time. I do over think a lot. Please help me out I AM AFRAID THAT ONE DAY I WILL BECOME MENTAL. Please help me out. I want to be brave and how to remove all the negative thoughts from my mind. I am feeling shy to ask help for my cowardness directly. Please help.

I am very very afraid of lot of things in my life. I have lot of phobias and my mind is completely collapsed of fear ...
There is nothing to feel embarrassed about being afraid. The more you talk about it, the better you will feel. So it is very important to make friends and lot so them and you may have some close friends from among them to share very intimate things. The fear complex is doing you in. Please attend a personality development course that highlights the five-factorial approach: physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual quotients. If you develop in these five areas, you will certainly improve your confidence. Some personality courses emphasize and focus on public speaking to a large extend. It is not too bad an idea but it is a little narrow in perspective. You could instead attend a Toast Masters Club, which does the same thing in a more organized manner. Apart from regular and aerobic exercising, you must also visit a gym to build a good body image. You can go for personal grooming classes too. While regular vigorous exercise develops your body, the regimen will also enlarge your heart and help you handle stressful situations much more competently than others who don’t exercise. Dress well, eat well, sleep well and conduct yourself well in social circles to build confidence. Perform well in your studies and work, and feel good about your achievements. You could also go for hypnosis sessions to build your self-image from within. Now, remember that all your problems are in your mind: spiritual wellness, faith and prayer will boost your confidence really well. Emotional wellness will take care of the fear factor. There are lots of affirmations, if said three times at a time, everyday, they will gradually strengthen your concept of yourself. Yoga and meditation will also build you up. Speaking to a counselor will give you personal assistance in pursuing these goals. In all this, trust is a very important development. If you don't have trust you will never relate to people and you will never enjoy relationships. There is strength in numbers and you are avoiding the very thing that will make you feel secure. There may be a lot of childhood issues that may have contributed to this level of fear and lack of trust. The counselor will help you [process this and identify the origins and sort out a lot of these contributors to yoru problems.

Dear lybrate user, if you are not having sex and are not masturbating, the semen that is produced in your body comes out while you are sleeping. This is a natural process, hence there is nothing to worry about the nightfall. If your depression is related to this, you need not worry. Otherwise please consult a counsellor for getting rid of your negative thoughts. Regarding your low hearing and problem with the vision in the right eye, you need to see ent specialist and an optholmologist (eye specialist). Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Weed is addictive and is as bad as nicotine. Weed addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. Hi my name is avinash 24 years, male I am smoking for last 9 years. I want to quit smoking. I try not to smoke then also I do. Give me some ideas so that I can quit. Please help.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Take homoeopathic medicine which will help you to get rid of your habit of smoking and it’s side-effects. Schwabe's Daphne Indica/ thrice daily for 3 months. There are few yoga poses which helps in calming your mind and relieves stress. Exercises: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. (The mind and body are deeply connected. If the mind is occupied by thoughts and worries then the shavasana will be unsuccessful. Therefore one has to acquire the stability of the mind along with the stability of the body.) Anuloma involves inhaling through both nostrils together and exhaling each breath alternately between the left and right nostrils. The thumb of the right hand is used to manipulate the right nostril, while the pinky and ring finger are used to control the left nostril. There are many other poses of yoga like Balasan, Setu Bandha Sarvangasan, Uttanasan, Garudasan, Savasana, Triconasana, Viprita Karani, Marjaryasana, Dhyana, Bhujangasana, Anulom-Vilum, Pranayam, etc. But first learn these under a qualified yoga-teacher as many poses are prohibited in certain diseases or medical conditions! Another stress-buster can be getting involved in any of your hobbies (may be a childhood hobby which you used to enjoy a lot!) - dancing, singing, painting, listening to soothing music, playing musical instruments, etc. After a month, report back to me. (Practicing meditation will also help you in quitting smoking).

She is not feeling well due to some external reasons like breakup from her boyfriend her mind is completely thinking about that and how to get her to normal stage?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

She is not feeling well due to some external reasons like breakup from her boyfriend her mind is completely thinking ...
It looks like she is pining for him after the break up. You could help her analyze why they had this fallout? If it her fault, then she needs to apologize and see if he is amenable. If not she may have done something quite unforgivable. In any relationship there must be love, respect, commitment, honesty, trust, and freedom in the romantic scene. Now whatever went wrong and if it cannot be helped, then she has to leave all this far behind. Good friends, like you, can make a huge difference by distracting her, making her feel worthy, lovable and above all to not become too negative. If you see that she has serious problems about the break up please take her to a counselor and make sure that she follows that person’s advice. Help her remove all associations of his: gifts, notes, letters, cards, emails, and any reminders to get him out of her system, not mind. Help her keep the good memories but don’t indulge in them. Get back to her old pals and revive those contacts. Normally when we get a boy friend, we drop all our friends and live exclusively with him. This is not a good thing to do, generally. So do help her to get back with them and get into good social circles. They will help her get over him. Do not let her talk ill or malign her ex to his friends or to him, whatever was the reason. That is unfortunately a very bad habit many of us have – we must still respect his reputation and treat him with dignity. Since this break up is so serious for her, do meet up with a counselor and talk about her feelings, openly. This is not the end of the world and he is not the only boy in life. She will find another but teach her not to repeat the mistakes that led to the breakup. This time she needs to choose wisely and behave like a true lady. You must help her do that and improve her self-belief.
