How to reduce the level of thyroid I am 34 yes and suffering from hypo thyroid from last 6years and I am taking thyronorm 154 mcg.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Surendra, You are on the right treatment, Hypothyroidism can only be controlled by thyroxine treatment. What are the latest or current TSH levels? Are your symptoms in control? If not then there may be a need to increase the dosage of thyroxine tablets. I am sure you are aware that this is a life long therapy.

Healing in diabetes is slower than normal. Control diabetes well and keep the area clean. Allow a week or 10 days for full recovery. It should heal in that time.

My father has URIC ACID problem due to which ONLY his left foot swells up often. Kindly tell me what precautions should he take and any recommended exercise?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Watch your weight. Try to lose weight slowly. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat products and some pulses (high in purine) every day. Enjoy low-fat milk and dairy products daily. Keep an eye on the purine content of food. Avoid offal, shellfish and crustaceans and tinned fish such as sardines in oil. Eat no more than 100g of meat, sausages, fish and poultry a day. Drink alcohol only occasionally, as it affects the elimination of uric acid. Eat low-fat food. The consumption of high-fat foods encourages weight gain. Drink at least two litres of low-calorie fluids a day. Recommended fluids are water, tea and fruit juice.

your uric acid level is high...due it uric acid deposits in joints and cause of joints pain. High uric acid level can be caused when human body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys do not eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications , Drinking too much alcohol, Genetics disorder , hypothyroidism , Immune-suppressing drugs, Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Do test KFT every 6 months to monitor levels of it.
