Ejection fraction is a measurement of the percentage of blood leaving your heart each time it contracts. During each heartbeat pumping cycle, the heart contracts and relaxes. When your heart contracts, it ejects blood from the two pumping chambers (ventricles). When your heart relaxes, the ventricles refill with blood. No matter how forceful the contraction, it never is able to pump all of the blood out of a ventricle. The term "ejection fraction" refers to the percentage of blood that's pumped out of a filled ventricle with each heartbeat.

My friend is a 58 years old male from Mumbai. I am on BP medicines for some time. Should I also take ecosprin 75 once daily as a preventive measure?

Ecosprin or Aspirin can reduce the risk for heart attack and ischemic stroke. However, using aspirin over the long-term can raise your risk for stomach bleeding. Daily aspirin should not be used for prevention in healthy people who are at low risk for heart disease. To evaluate your risk for heart disease you should get an ECG and 2D ecocardiography done along with cardiologist consultations.

I am suffering from dry cough for the last 3 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

I am suffering from dry cough for the last 3 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what ...
Just dru cough alone for 3 weeks can be due to 1. After a common cold or viral fever; the fever may go unnoticed but leaves behind a dry cough which will resolve over a few more weeks or turn to wheezy cough. 2. A dry cough may be a sign of allergic asthma without wheezing . This occurs during season change or on exposure to allergens like dust; cold air etc. 3. Do not smoke. It prevents a common cold getting resolved fast. 4. There are no serious illnesses which present as dry cough for 3 weeks. So there is no reason to be over apprehensive. 5. Chest pain is because we mainly cough with our chest muscles. So they get sprained by hard cough. As there is no sputum ; try some cough suppresant syrups if needed. 6. Hot fomentation or hot water bath 3 times will relax the chest muscles. 7. Paracetamol is also OK .

Which type of Angioplasty system is better making hole in Radial /wrist access or in right upper thigh/ femoral access in view of a heart patient aged 65 years or please intimate the benefit/harm, Radial versus Femoral Access for Coronary Intervention.

Which type of Angioplasty system is better making hole in Radial /wrist access or in right upper thigh/ femoral acces...
Radial requires skill and is less traumatic compared to femoral which too requires skill but it has been there for a lot more years, the side effects of femoral are 1) bleeding through a malor vessel, there fore the leg has to be kept at a higher level with head side low for at least 6 hours & post procedure care takes longer to heal though in both the vessels it is just a puncture caused by a thick needle to inject dye to reach the heart vessels. If one is sure about the cardiologist (some places do give exagerrated opinions about their doctors on call) get it through radial. Regarding other conditions like constipation, make sure that the system is clean & person takes adequate semisoild food as nourishment, no ga is reguired but there is slight risk of vomiting due to pain reflex.
