How to reduce ldl & vldl from blood and what is the cause of these bad cholesterols.?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
High cholesterol is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, a cause of heart attacks, and reducing blood lipid levels lowers the cardiovascular risk.4 High levels of LDL lead to a build-up of cholesterol in the arteries, whereas HDL carries cholesterol to the liver for removal from the body.2 A build-up of cholesterol is part of the process that narrows arteries, called atherosclerosis, in which plaques form and cause restriction of blood flow.2 High cholesterol levels are a result of modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. Two major risk factors, diet and exercise, are highly modifiable, meaning that something can be done to change these risk factors and reduce the likelihood of having high cholesterol.2 Limiting intake of fat in the diet helps manage cholesterol levels. In particular, it is helpful to limit foods that contain:2 Food sources of cholesterol Meat, cheese and egg yolks are sources of cholesterol. Cholesterol (from animal foods, such as egg yolks, meat and cheese) Saturated fat (found in some meats, dairy products, chocolate, baked goods, and deep-fried and processed foods) Trans fat (found in some fried and processed foods). Being overweight or obese can also lead to higher blood LDL levels, with regular exercise helpful in managing this risk factor.2 The primary causes of high cholesterol are genetic - very high LDL levels are found in the inherited condition familial hypercholesterolemia.5 Abnormal cholesterol levels may also be secondary to the following:5,6 Diabetes Liver or kidney disease Polycystic ovary syndrome Pregnancy and other conditions that increase levels of female hormones Underactive thyroid gland. Drugs that increase LDL cholesterol and decrease HDL cholesterol (progestins, anabolic steroids and corticosteroids).

During a subsidised heart check up at a private hospital, seeing echocardio report mentioning EF 34%,the doctor initially cautioned me of heart failure. When I told him that I have no issue with health, he put the onus on God as it can not be explained medically. BTW,I had CABG in 2003. My current age is 66. Is the report reliable or the doctor explanation.

PGD Maternal Child Health, MBBS
General Physician, Akola
Very simple. Do another 2 d echo and know for sure the ejection fraction where end diastolic volume and end systolic volume are mentioned clearly in the report. It is simple mathematical calculation. Your cabg in 2003 was done before an infarction or on diagnosis of coronary artery disease makes the difference. If done for insufficiency without heart attack, then ef should improve and not go down, while after heart attack the muscle function gets compromised so even cabg may not improve the ejection fraction.

Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

My husband has b.p. 150/100. What it indicates. What precautions should be taken. please tell.

BHMS
Homeopath, Secunderabad
Ideally the bp should be between 110/70 to 120/80. And 130/90 is considered as borderline or beginning of hypertension. Precaution o be taken: eat less salt, eat high fiber diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk food, refined and packaged food as they have lots of salt and fats and artificial preservatives. Exercise 1-2 hrs daily. Do yoga and pranayam at least 5 days a week. (learn from experts to maximise the benefits. Stop or avoid alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicants. Keep checking bp regularly. Start treatment if it remains high in spite of all these precautions.

My age is 28 and I ve been detected high bp. I am suffering through body pain, continuous sleepiness. Also my weight is 83 kg and my height is 173 cm. I am under depression due to these disorders and I want to get rid of this. Pls suggest.

CLINICAL CARDIOLOGY, MD - Consultant Physician

Hello. Getting High Blood pressure at such an early age is sad. But, before reaching to the conclusion that you have High BP, it needs to be properly confirmed that your BP remains high all the time. Because, many times, BP rises only temporarily while you are checking your BP at a clinic, due to anxiety or tension. This is very popularly known as White Coat Hypertension. And this is a very non-harmful thing. Maybe you are having only White Coat Hypertension and not real High BP disease. Take care.

What can I do to prevent this from getting worse or having a heart problem again?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi We need to make few changes in our life to stay fit and healthy (if there is no medical condition): - Just walking alone is a very beneficial exercise which can help you stay in shape, feel more energetic, and get healthy. Always take stairs rather than taking an elevator. -Standing while you work can help your body get more activity than if you were just sitting down. Spend at least some of your work day standing instead of sitting in order to help your blood flow and maintain your muscles. -Do more chores. Lots of household chores actually involve a lot of exercise and being better about doing chores can be a great way for you to fit activity and exercise into your day. -Aim to exercise for a total of 30 minutes per day and you’ll easily be able to maintain your fitness level. -Some exercises will be more efficient than others, and choosing these more efficient exercises means that the small amount of time that you do spend exercising will really count. Try to choose exercises that focus on your core muscles, since your legs and arms can get activity through daily activities like lifting bags of groceries and walking a longer distance from your car. Try squats, planks, burpees. -Get indulge into some activity at home like riding a bicycle, swimming, playing active games with your kids. -Eating right. Cut out unhealthy fats and take in healthy fats. The easiest way to identify unhealthy fats is to look for “solid” fats, or fats that are solid at room temperature. Get plenty of protein. Protein will help you maintain your muscles and also give you the energetic feeling that you may be missing now that you’re getting less exercise. Good protein sources include skinless chicken, salmon, sardines, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and peas. Eat properly portioned, balanced meals. Generally, about ⅓ of your plate should be fruits and vegetables and ⅓ of your plate should be grains. The final third should be a mix of protein and low-fat dairy (cottage cheese, eggs, non-fat milk, etc). -Drinking enough water also has the added bonus of keeping your hunger level down, helping you to maintain the lower calorie count that you’ll be getting now that you’re not exercising as much. Medication: There is an old saying - ‘Prevention is always better than cure!’ So, take homoeopathic Heart Tonic by Schwabe Essentia Aurea /10-20 drops should be taken 3 times a day before meals. Take Care.

I am suffering from fever and dry cough for the one month and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done.

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- cough at start is wet in nature but later due to the use of modern drugs it get dry and due to that it gets deposited in the lungs and hence causes chest congestion. Try these ayurvedic tips- a) inhale steam of water (mix with few drops of eucalyptus oil in it) to relieve your chest congestion and for expectorating the stuffed cough. B) massage your chest region with luke warm sesame oil daily at evening time. C) use eladi vati 1 tab thrice daily as lozenges. D) use kankasav 2 tsp twice daily with water.
