What is the cure for follicular carcinoma of thyroid after total thyroidectomy of a female of 57 years. What is the %age of prognosis and what are the precautions taken. What are the effects of no intake of Thyroxine until radioactive iodine is administered and is the iodine therapy the only remedy for it. Any suggestions in this regard are solicited. Thanks

As thyroid been removed thyroxine will continue life long. Radi iodine will continue for some time and then stop depending upon what your oncologist has prescribed. Radio iodine is to kill any residual thyroid cellsin body to decrease chances of reappearance of cancer and so os must.

I am an diabetic patient my eyes having slight burning sensation what to do help me please.?
Burning of eyes is not necessarily related to diabetes. It may be due to strain due to over working or hot weather etc. You may try moisol eye drops 1 drop twice a day for a few days. If no relief is noticed then seek an opinion of an eye specialist.

What are the precautions and medicines for the person having uric acid problem as well as asthma and blood pressure problems?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
continue your medicines for asthma and HTN. A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day.Take tab. Bencid 500 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos or tab. Naprosyn 500 mg once a day or sos for pain in joints.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Dear, first of all I would like to assure and inform you that" erectile dysfunction" is" very common" and" manageable" issue. Due to lack of proper guidance and ignorance, this issue does not get resolved easily. It is very easily treated by following measures: 1). Proper counselling 2). Exercises / techniques 3). Ayurvedic medicines (there are not much treatment options for" erectile dysfunction" in modern system).

Mr. Lybrate-user, some times if blood sugar is not well controlled, one may get a problem called gastroparesis, where there may be repeated nausea and vomiting, hearburn, early fullness. First and foremost is to have excellent blood sugar control - fasting around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg, hba1c%<6.8. Better to shift to insulin if sugar control is not properly achieved. Plus take small quantity of meals more number of times (6 meals a day), with total intake being well controlled.

My uncle of age 57 years, height is 5'8" and weight is 156 kg, having diabetes from last 7 years on regular medicine. But now he is feeling blurring in vision, did not feel any warm and cold in his foot. In night frequent urination also. How we can manage this problem, or we should go to the clinic regarding this.

My uncle of age 57 years, height is 5'8" and weight is 156 kg, having diabetes from last 7 years on regular medicine....
Mr. Lybrate-user, your uncle has very morbid obesity with 52.34 kg/m2 bmi. This one of the major reasons for diabetes being not in control. Secondly if he has developed any problem with vision, a retinal check up has to be done immediately, because severe hyperglycemia can lead to damage to retina. Loss of sensation in feet is also a problem due to diabetic neuropathy. If he can afford it is better if bariatric surgery is done, which will help in reducing weight, will also help in controlling diabetes. Things are serious do not waste time, get the eyes checked urgently.

Dear Lybrate user, You have mentioned that she has thyroid at the beginning of your statement and that she has normal thyroid at the end. If she has thyroid, then she should be put on appropriate treatment and then investigated whether she can get pregnant. Most of the ladies with thyroid problem conceive.

It takes around 6 to 8 weeks to reflect change in value of TSH. You can repeat test after 2 months of starting treatment. I think its already more than 2 months so you can go for test now.
