At 14 years his bp particularly systolic is high. Ideally it should be closer to 105 to 110 and diastolic around 60 to 70 mm. If father has diabetes, then children can get it. But it is a preventable condition. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle one can prevent or postpone it.

Sir I m thyroid patient. T2.342. T3.22. And t4.0. 01. I m taking thyroid medicine regularly. Can you tell me permanent remedy of my dease. Pls give me advice.

Mr Balmukund, Hypothyroidism is a thyroxine deficiency disorder, hence the treatment is replacement of the hormone through oral tablets. This has to be done for life time as the hormone is needed for day to day normal functioning of our brain and metabolism. Hence this is the only option, There is no permanent cure for it. In addition one has to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, peanuts, radish, mustard and coffee. Plus have to consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Use whole grain flour to make chapati and roti. No refined flour like maida. Daily exercise for 1 hour is also equally important to avoid weight gain.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if a person is not having diabetes, then consuming a good quantity fruits is welcome. There is no restriction. All fruits are good. But for a person with diabetes fruits like mango, banana, chikkoo and grapes are not good as they are too sweet. Other fruits like papaya, pomegranate, apple, pear, guava, orange, sweet lime and water melon are permitted. However, a daily intake of about 100 g is recommended that too with good blood sugar control. Excess fruits in diabetes are not advisable. Thanks for the question.

You can take Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Mr. Lybrate-user, the sugar levels mentioned (145 - 100 mg), are those fasting or pp? further it is not clear when you say 145 to 100 mg. Better to mention exact fasting, pp levels and hba1c%. That will give a clear idea of severity of diabetes. In diabetes a person should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, items made out of maida and other refined flour. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. For achieving good control fasting glucose should be closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg/100 ml & hba1c% <7. Thanks.

You have mentioned that only a month back treatment for hypothyroidism has been started. Then you need to wait for a period of at least 4 to six weeks for tsh levels to come to normal. On treatment tsh should revert to 3 to 4 milli units for control of all symptoms, plus efforts to reduce weight to show any result. If tsh levels remain high then diet and exercise will not benefit.
