Do's and Dont's for Knee Pain Patients
The knee joint is one of the most commonly injured joints in the body. Whether you play sport, are extremely active or just spend all day on your feet, the knees are under constant stress. Knee pain can develop over time, or it can be the result of injury. Physiotherapists provide expert advice, assessment and treatment to correctly diagnose the problem and speed up the recovery.

Do's for knee pain:

1. Make a habit of walking for 15-20 minutes twice a day.

2. Apply hot pack in painful area for 10-15 minutes.

3. Start taking calcium reach foods in diet such as milk, paneer etc.

4. Try using knee cap or knee braces if there is pain while walking.

5. Maintain normal healthy weight.

Dont's for knee pain:

1. Avoid running in high speed.

2. Avoid sitting cross legged.

3. Avoid sitting in low height chair.

4. Try to avoid stair climbing.

Also consider for physiotherapy exercises guided by physios for better results if the pain persists.

Hello...usually cancer doesn't cause pain...rather it starts with hoarseness or difficulty in swallowing. But if it persists for long, you can always go to your local doctor and get yourself examined. Good Luck !

Hello, reduce your weight if you are obeased, please. You need to go for physiotherapy, first. Go for meditation to reduce stress to check knee-pain. Tk, plenty of water to hydrate your body. Cancer pain is one of the difficult pains to treat, difficult because cancer patients suffer from pain during the course of the disease either from the treatment like surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or due to the spread of cancer to the various tissues when we say it is metastatic cancer.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Dear , can you please explain the nature of the pain. Is it in one particular knee joint or is it in both the knees. Considering her age it might be a beginning of osteoarthritis. Get an x ray done and start her calcium supplement along with some vitamin d. Please report with x ray.

The pain could be because of early arthritic changes.Wear knee support while walking. Take 7 sessions of S.W.D followed by strengthening exercise of quadriceps.

Dear, as you said you had tear in acl. But now you feel no pain. Therefore the ligament that injured that time has healed now. So there is no need of surgery now. You should follow these instructions to get fast recovery - 1. You can do only light and simple execises. Do normal walk. If you want to walk fast then first wear knee supporting knee cap before walk. 2. Do not run. As running can give you sudden jerk to the ligament and the pain will start that makes you feel uncomfortable. So do not give sudden jerk to legs. 3. If you are overweight then follow the diet plan to weight loss that makes the load less on your knee joints and makes you feel light. 4. Follow the simple bending of knee joint exercise for strengthing of leg muscle. 5. In future, if you feel difficulty in walk, then you should opt the surgery for the repair of ligament. Surgery is necessary only in that condition when you feel increased pain and difficulty in movement of joint.

Hello, we understand your situation. We would advise the following exercises: 1) please use steam or a hot pad on your knees 3 times a day, provided there is not much swelling. Incase of swelling, please use an ice pack. 2) keep both your feet on the bed straight. Place a roll of towel under your knees. Press knees to squeeze towel. Hold for 10 counts & release. Repeat this 10 times x 2 hourly. Regards

When leg pain occurs after strenuous physical activity, you can simply apply cold compresses. This will help reduce the pain by numbing the affected area and control swelling and inflammation. 1. Wrap a few ice cubes (or a bag of frozen peas) in a thin towel. 2. Apply this pack on the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes, while keeping the leg(s) elevated. 3. Do this a few times a day. Note: Do not apply ice directly on the skin, as it may cause frostbite. 2. Massage Massage promotes faster recovery from muscle damage that causes leg pain. 10 minutes of massage therapy attenuates inflammatory signaling after exercise-induced muscle damage. In addition, massage improves blood circulation and helps relieve stress and anxiety. 1. Rub some warm olive, coconut or mustard oil on the affected area. 2. Using gentle yet firm strokes, massage your legs for about 10 minutes. 3. Do this 2 or 3 times daily as needed. You can also use a self-massage device or apply pressure to sore muscles using a tennis ball.

The shoulder is one of those joints in your body that enjoys the maximum wear and tear by virtue of being an extremely mobile joint and one of the most over-worked as well. This increases the risk of dislocation and instability. Arthritis is one of the most common causes of pain, as per various medical reports and is usually found to affect the tendons, ligaments, and even the muscles and joints of the body due to excessive wear and tear. There are various kinds of shoulder arthritis and treatments that are available. Read on to find out more.

  1. Rheumatoid Arthritis: This autoimmune condition creates stiffness in the shoulders along with rheumatoid nodules or small bumps under the skin of this region. It may affect both shoulders at the same time. Swelling or inflammation of the joints is a common occurrence in this condition along with fever, fatigue and weight loss.

  2. Osteoarthritis: This form of arthritis basically has to do with wear and tear of the connective tissue and bones. The symptoms are pretty severe and can go from tenderness to pain and stiffness with an increased risk of bone fractures.

  3. Post Traumatic Arthritis: PA or post traumatic arthritis occurs due to an injury in the shoulder and can cause instability as well as dislocation of the shoulder. A sports injury is the most common cause of this kind of arthritis. Pain and inflammation are the most common outcomes of this kind of injury and arthritis.

  4. Avascular Necrosis: When the tissues of the shoulder joints go through damage, it leads to this form of arthritis. Joint dislocations and fractures are the most common causes of this kind of damage. This usually happens because blood flow does not happen over the long arm bone to reach the shoulders due to the damage rendered to the tissue. Excessive alcohol consumption and high steroid intake can also lead to this damage.

  5. Rotator Cuff Tear Arthropathy: This kind of arthritis is caused due to a rip in the shoulder cuffs.

Treatment Measures-

The most common forms of treatment include surgery like joint replacement surgery (replacing the damaged parts of the shoulder with an artificial prosthetic joint), Arthroscopy (cleaning out of the joint with minor incisions), and resection arthroplasty (removing the bone from one’s collarbone). Also, corticosteroid injections can be given and anti-inflammation drugs like ibuprofen can be prescribed for this condition. Exercises and physical therapy will also be helpful in such cases so as to strengthen the shoulder and joints.

It is important to also make lifestyle changes to give rest to the shoulder and abstain from too much alcohol consumption.
