Do regular walk 45 minutes and follow 1400kcal diet chart for which consult dietitian. Your tsh seems normal so this cannot be held responsible for your weight gain. Its lack of exercise and probably dietary issues.

Normal TSH levels for the average adult range from 0.4 ‑ 4.0 mIU/L (milli-international units per liter) (3). However, many organisations agree that a reading of 2.5 or less is truly ideal, with anything 2.5 – 4.0 mIU/L considered “at risk”. For those on thyroxine, goal TSH level is between 0.5 to 2.5 mU/L

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. With TSh at 2.78 mU/L it is necessary to continue the same dose of thyroxine. You may check TSH after another 8 weeks, then if the level goes still lower then one can look at reducing the dose. Thanks.

For hypothyroidism thyroxine tablets should be taken, dosage to decided on tsh level and weight of the patient. For cholesterol problem statins should be taken. For high bp anti hypertensive drugs. Plus proper diet should be taken. This might help in hair fall.

What is the normal range of TSH. How thyroid will impact on health. Can you please explain me sir?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, normal range of tsh is 0.3 to 6 milli units/ml. Usually tsh level between 6 to 10 milli units/ml is considered sub clinical hypothyroidism. Above 10 milli units/ml, treatment is indicated. Thyroxine hormone secreted by thyroid gland is an essential hormone, needed for development and functioning of brain, required for almost every single metabolic activity in the body. Deficiency causes multiple symptoms affecting various organs and systems. Usually seen symptoms are slow heart rate, swelling of face nd lower limbs, dry skin. Dry hair, hair fall, weight gain, in females irregularity of menstrual cycle, excess flow, difficulty in becoming pregnant, improper outcome of pregnancy, difficulty in speech, inability to concentrate, anxiety, depression, early fatigue and tiredness etc. If not treated it can lead to more serious condition called myxdema.

I am a Thyroid and pcos patient. Have done everything but I lack energy. Can't exercise. I'm going to gym regularly. My sister gifted me black spider25 fat burner. It hs mentioned if we are thyroid or diabetes patient, consult your doctor before taking dos capsules. Dis capsules contains Bladderwrack (whole thallus) a sea vegetable concentrated source of minerals. Magnesium iodine potassium calcium etc. Nd Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCI) Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin) Chromium (as Chromium Picolinate): This is used primarily to lower fasting blood sugar levels and to lower insulin levels in people who have type 2 diabetes. Can I take dis fat burner. please tell me, as I need to reduce my weight as soon as possible. But confused for ds medicine. My t3 is 153 ng/dl T4 is 12.4 Tsh is 3.09. I'm taking glyciphage 500 twice a day for pcos nd eltroxin 50 fr thyroid ANd homeopathy for pcos:) I dnt know whether to take dis medicine wid glyciphage or not.

It is not advisable to take this medicine. Insulin resistance is the main reason why its more challenging for you to lose weight with pcos for pcos & thyroid people it takes time to reduce weight, so don't worry, do regular exercise especially cardio and make dietary changes it will help you. Take proper diet without skipping meals, including green vegetables, fruits, dairy products. Fruit is rich in fiber and is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals. Fruits with a low gi include cherries, plums, apricots, prunes and grapes.

Homeopathy for Common Cold and Cough

DHMS
Homeopath, Rewari
Homeopathy for Common Cold and Cough

Common cold and cough is one of the most common viral illnesses that have no specific treatment. Allopathic medicines provide palliative cure to just treat the symptoms, there is no definite antiviral for it. There is also popular belief having cold once or twice a year is a good way to cleanse the body. On the contrary, cough and cold could be the first symptoms of a serious underlying disease like pneumonia. From that angle, it is better to treat it than to just let it run its natural course. Especially in children and elderly, it can be chronic issue with repeated bouts and therefore, treatment becomes mandatory.

The good news is that homeopathy provides a cure for this, that not just treat external symptoms. Also, like any other condition, homeopathy looks at treating the whole myriad of associated symptoms, thereby providing holistic treatment.  Below are 5 common homeopathic remedies for chronic cough and cold:

1. Aconitum or Aconite:  Used in the early stages of a cold that was sudden in onset and severe.  There could be associated nasal discharge, fever and chills, chest congestion, itchy throat, and a traumatic experience.  The person may also feel thirsty, anxious, and agitated.

2. Allium Cepa:  Severe burning and watery eyes, nasal irritation, copious amounts of discharge, hoarseness, and headache. The runny nose improves in open air, but worsens when being indoors.

3. Arsenicum album: The patient usually has complaints on the right side including watery nasal discharge, weakness, restlessness, chills, thirst. The discharge can irritate the upper lip and nasal mucosa.  The cold gradually moves to the throat and the irritation also shifts down (this phase requires a different treatment).

4. Belladonna: When the cold has a sudden onset with red face, high fever, cold feet, this can be used in the early stages of the cold. There is associated high fever, tickly throat, glassy eyes, dry cough, restlessness, and delirium

5. Euphrasia: Burning eyes and profuse nasal discharge lead to reddened eyes and cheeks. More common in children, the condition worsens in open air, at night, and while lying down. The cough then moves down into the larynx, produces a harsh, hoarse voice.

6. Pulsatilla: Yellow or greenish mucous, nasal congestion, mouth breathing are some symptoms where this is used. It is very commonly used in newborn babies, if the discharge colour is green or yellow. Associated symptoms include moodiness, easy crying, craving for attention, easily hurt and sensitive.

Homeopathy does 'cure' the cough and cold in patients, in the true sense of the word.  That provides palliative care and holistic treatment of the condition too.

lybrate-user, I have gone through the query and understand your concern. If you have overt hypothyroidism with TSH above 10 mU/L, then taking levothyroxine is the ONLY OPTION and that too for LIFETIME. This is a hormone deficiency disease. Thyroxine is required for day to day activities and every single metabolic function, plus maintaining body temperature. Hence, it has to be supplemented from outside on daily basis. If not in control then symptoms like weight gain, cold intolerance, irregular menstruation, muscle and joint pains, early fatigue and tiredness, dry skin. Dry hair and hair fall etc are seen. You will have to avoid soy beans, soy containing foods. Other things like cabbage, cauliflower, peanuts, mustard, radish etc also should be consumed less. Green leafy vegetables and salads, fruits should be consumed more. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Maida should be avoided. Regular exercise of over 1 hour a day is necessary. Looking at your height and weight, it is clear that there is grade 2 obesity with a BMI of 36.37 kgs/M2. Your ideal body weight should be 65 kgs. Your efforts to reduce weight will be successful only if TSH is maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L with adequate dosage of levothyroxine. If you have any doubts please do come back. Please understand other than this there is no option. Thanks.

Hi, it is possible that your daughter has chest allergy. We need to get her checked with a doctor who can auscultate with a stethoscope for hearing a wheeze. If this is the case, then specific treatment like nebulization and long term treatment may be needed, along with some precautions. Please get back for specific advice, warm regards.

My mother (58+ Y) is under treatment for Hypothyroidism & Hypertension. She used to have controlled BP (110/70 - 130/80) & sugar (FBS - 97) till a month back. Over last few days she is very tensed due to health issues at home. Today afternoon she suddenly felt 'chakkar' lost vision for 3-4 minutes & was about to fall down from the sitting position. Her speech was also not very clear during those 3-4 m. We also observed her left hand is shaking for that time. However, she was back to normal activities within 5 minutes. Is this an emergency? Mr. lybrate-user, Thank you for your query, I understand your concern. Looking at your description it is not very clear whether she ahs any serious episode of storke or not. However, please get the blood pressure checked, if it has remained as mentioned then there may not be any serious issue. However, she should meet her regular doctor and go through a thorough examination. Is her TSH in good control? (between 3 to 4 mU/L), if not then thyroxine dose may have to be increased. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.
