I love the concept of healing with food, food as medicine, or as I like to call it, food pharmacology

Turmeric is a plant of the ginger family that is often used in Indian cuisines. This plant has a long history of medicinal use, and  it’s most studied active ingredient has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral activity.

Historically, turmeric has been used to treat pain , stomach and liver ailments , many skin conditions like  sores, eczema and skin rashes.

Excess inflammation is always present in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (the suffix "itis" denotes inflammation in the thyroid gland .It is most common cause of Hypothyroidism). Turmeric can be helpful in reducing whole body inflammation

Studies of the effect of curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric on the thyroid gland and autoimmunity have showed encouraging results.

Curcumin showed tumor inhibiting activity in thyroid cancer.

Curcumin was protective against the genetic damage and side effects induced by radioactive iodine that is sometimes used to treat Graves’ disease (hyperthyroidism)

Curcumin has anti-inflammatory benefits that can be helpful in down-regulating autoimmune conditions

While curcumin can also boost glutathione (an antioxidant that's often depleted in Hashimoto's)

Use of turmeric helped in reducing pain , increase in energy , improvement in mood and an improvement in thyroid antibodies

Daily intake of curcumin in a typical Indian diet may be anti-inflammatory, however, curcumin is cleared from the body within one hour or so
Combining curcumin with piperine, (found in pepper), extends the life of curcumin in the body, helping it to stick around longer.

I also made Turmeric Tea (recipe below) twice per day

1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of ginger
pinch of pepper
pinch of cinnamon
juice of one lemon
sweetener to taste (Stevia is Dr.Tanvi’s  top recommendations)
1 cup of hot water

Directions: Put all ingredients in cup of your choice, top of with boiling water and mix!

Thank you for Reading it. I hope it will be helpful to you.

It's all about calories. No specific food or drink will treat the diabetes. Beta cells of pancreas which secret insulin became damaged in diabetes. So we hv to control blood sugar to match levels of insulin secreted by our body. Take a diet chart first. Your sugar levels are high. Get a kidney function test done. Then medicines can be started. Decrease body weight do daily exercises around 45 minutes. Wish you a healthy life.

Relax and take it easy. Social adjustments at times becomes difficult specially if you find things r not moving as per your desire or expectation. You might be having your own views on so many things which donot match with others and that is where the conflict starts. For the time being I suggest- whenever you are talking with any family members/ friend/ relative first agree to their views and later on after some time - may be hrs / days you express your opinion after keeping and analysing the others point of view. That will establish a harmonious relationship with others and you will feel like staying with them and enjoy their company.

For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

I am having hypothyroid, can I eat fruits and veggies rich in protein for maintaining my weight?

I am having hypothyroid, can I eat fruits and veggies rich in protein for maintaining my weight?
lybrate-user, You must be aware about which of the vegetables to be avoided in hypothyroidism. Leaving those you can consume all others in good quantity. But vegetables hardly give any proteins, they provide vitamins and few minerals. Best source of protein would be eggs, fish, dressed chicken, if you are taking, otherwise pulses and milk. So beans are to be avoided. Thanks.

Lybrate-user, in diabetes chance of getting repeated urinary tract infection is quite common. So strict blood glucose control is very essential. Fasting glucose should be closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg & hba1c% <7. Plus there has to be appropriate antibiotic treatment of each episode of infection. It may be necessary to get a sensitivity test to see which antibiotic is most effective. But still if hyperglycemia is not controlled urinary tract infection can continue to occur. Thanks.

HEALTH TIPS FOR THYROID PATIENTS
If you have an under active thyroid gland, avoid consuming large quantities of goitrogens. These are substances that can suppress the thyroid gland if consumed in very large quantities. Foods rich in goitrogens include raw vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts; as well as soy, millet, peanuts and corn. Cooking these foods is advisable and inactivates the majority of goitrogens.

I have a friend who is suffering from diabetes mellitus and hypertension so what should I do for him to take care.
Mr. Lybrate-user, you should help your friend to start appropriate treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure. Drug treatment is essential for proper control. In addition he should exercise daily for 1 hour, take restricted diet that give exact amount of calories based on his ideal body weight, blood sugar levels and amount of daily exercise. For controlling high bp apart from drugs salt restriction is very essential. He should also be told to avoid sweets, sweetened aerated drinks, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, high fat milk products, red meat, highly processed foods and fructose corn syrup containing products. He should consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads.

high cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Creatine ln blood 1.5 ml/dl is for diabetic female. Can this be cured with medication and diet?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Creatine ln blood 1.5 ml/dl is for diabetic female. Can this be cured with medication and diet?
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Creatinine increase happens when kidney function is affected. This can happen in many conditions including diabetes. Only way to reduce that level is achieve a strict blood glucose control with FBG < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. 1.5 mg is just marginally high. With proper control of diabetes and dietary adjustment, it can be reversed. There is nothing like cure in this situation. Thanks.

Thyroid has nothing to do with weight gain! moreover, don't presume, get your thyroid profile tested, if you really have thyroid. It can be cured by medicines! 1.
