What is an ideal diet for ulcerative colitis? I heard cabbage juice is a good option to cure uc. But I have doubt whether any side effects for this cabbage juice especially thyroid function?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
People with uc should just try to eat a well-balanced diet whenever possible. This should include a variety of foods: lean meat, fish, and poultry low-fat dairy products bread, cereal, and whole grains fruits and vegetables healthy fats such as vegetable oils keep a food diary to help you figure out which foods cause problems for you and whether or not you're getting enough nutrients. If you're losing weight because of your ulcerative colitis, try eating five or six small meals and snacks during the day instead of two or three large meals. When you have chronic diarrhea, drink plenty of water or other fluids to stay hydrated. A dietitian can come up with a diet that meets your calorie and nutrient needs. Before you take any dietary supplements, talk to your doctor or ask me privately.

Mr. Lybrate-user, your friend may be having t1 diabetes, which needs insulin injections as treatment, as in t1 dm there is no insulin produced by beta cells of pancreas. So if starts taking that plus proper diet control and some physical exercise, he should be able to improve the health. But treatment is for lifetime.

Hi if your sugar are well controlled you can have as normal pregnancy as anyone else. Try to keep your prepregnancy hba1c near 6 to 6.5 without going much into hypoglycemia for second q also answer is that chanc3s become minimal if you well control your blood sugar.

My mother is suffering from gout pain and thyroid from last 4 years. What is the proper treatment and medicine for it?
Thyroid gland affects nearly every organ in the body. Many nutritional factors play a role in optimizing thyroid function. However, both nutrient deficiencies and excesses can trigger or exacerbate symptoms. Working in collaboration with a both a physician and a registered dietitian is essential to determine nutritional status for optimal thyroid health. Improper thyroid function causes undesired weight changes, significant cardiovascular risks, and symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, and gastrointestinal upset, which can hinder the development of healthful behaviors. I focus on setting realistic goals for healthy changes and regular exercise when counseling clients. There many potential nutrient deficiencies and interactions with medications and supplements. Hence diligent care is to be taken while designing a holistic treatment plan. I being a both a registered dietitian (rd) and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I will also suggest home remedies. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.

Lybrate-userji, for a patient with diabetes, it ideal to maintain blood sugar - fasting around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. To achieve this following steps need to be taken: 1) take prescribed medications regularly without missinga singel dose, 2) take balanced but restricted diet based on ideal body weight, extent of daily physical activity and sugar levels. 3) to exercise daily for about 1 hour, so as to maintain normal weight, increase glucose utilisation and reduce insulin resistance. 4) to consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads, also permitted fruits (100 g a day). 5) refrain from alcohol and smoking, 6) avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and sweetened aerated drinks (colas), highly processed foods, bakery items and high fat milk products. Thaks for the question.

I have a diabetic problem so how I control without insulin and how to cure the diabetic?

MBBS, MD - Medicine

I have a diabetic problem so how I control without insulin and how to cure the diabetic?
Increase thirst, increased frequency of urination are some initial symptoms of diabetes but it can vary from being completely asymptomatic to non specific symptoms like weakness, tingling in feet, dry mouth, blurry vision, burning during urination. You need to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent such metabolic diseases. Type 1 usually occurs at younger age due to insulin deficiency and treated with insulin injections. Type 2 usually in adults due to insulin resistance and treated with oral medicines. It can't be cured completely but you can keep it controlled by taking these precautions.
