When considering how much a food will raise blood sugar, should I consider its glycemic index or glycemic load? Please help.

When considering how much a food will raise blood sugar, should I consider its glycemic index or glycemic load? Pleas...
The glycemic Index is a rating system for foods that contain carbohydrate. It helps you know how quickly a food with carbohydrate raises blood sugar, so you can focus on eating foods that raise blood sugar slowly. It gives you an idea about how fast your body converts the carbs in a food into glucose. Two foods with the same amount of carbohydrates can have different glycemic index numbers. The fact a food has a low glycemic index doesn't mean it's super-healthy, or that you should eat a lot of it. Calories, vitamins, and minerals are still important. For example, potato chips have a lower glycemic index than oatmeal and about the same as green peas. But oatmeal and green peas have more nutrients. Portion sizes matter, too. The more of whatever kind of carbs you eat, the more they'll affect your blood sugar. That's what the glycemic load tells you. It's a number you may see along with the glycemic index in lists. Think of it as the glycemic index for a specific amount of that food. You don't have to deny yourself certain food groups or favorite dishes when you follow a low-glycemic eating plan. You focus on eating measured amounts of low- or medium-glycemic foods and trying to eat a balanced diet. Your feedback matters. Thank-you.

Timely and balanced diet is as important as regular medicine intake to control diabetes. Diet high in protein for the health of diabetics because it supplies the essential amino acids needed for tissue repair. Pulsese are rich in protein and fibre. Take lukewarm water with half spoon methidana powder in the morning. Junk food should be avoided. Complex carbohydrates and fibre should be included in diet. Use sufficient amount of ginger, onion, garlic, coriander, lemon, greenchilli, black paper, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, bay leaves in food items. Except fruit juice you should eat complete fruit because it contain fibers which is good for a diabetic.

Mr. lybrate-user, Usually those who follow Ayurvedic medicine tend to say that taking curds is not good particularly at night time. We do not think like that. It is good at any time of the day, provides a good source of proteins and also is probiotic. Even milk at night is also equally good. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, the blood sugar levels mentioned by you look quite ok. It also important to look at hba1c%, if that is<7%, then one can say diabetes is in good control. If you maintai sugar levels at the present level then it will in preventing or postponing the long term complications of diabetes. You have also not mentioned about the drugs being taken and their dosage. As regards the hypertension, it is not in control, which is clear with the readings which you have mentioned. To give any suggestion I need to know your current treatment with dosage. Another important aspect is that you have a bmi of 27.57 kg/m2, which means over weight, it also is a major contributor for high bp and sugar levels. If you are looking for any specific guidance, it will be better if you come with details like present fasting and pp levels, hba1c%, bp readings and drugs with dosage and diet and exercise pattern. Then I will be able to guide.

Thyroid prob Hi Yours is a case of thyroid dysfunction. You have taken the right medication for the same? If you can avoid thyroid antagonisers in food like soya, jowar, bajra, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, mono sodium glutamate that's Chinese salt n so all Chinese food n a lot of processed foods too have it ; so it would be safer if you can read labels of processed foods and avoid it too .do get in touch with your lab reports for a private consult so I can help you select food in a wholistic way.

Mr. First and foremost is to take appropriate drugs for controlling blood sugar levels. Ideally fasting should be nearer 100 mg and pp 150 to 160 mg, hba1c%<7. In addition diet control and exercise are also equally important to help better control of blood sugar. The diet has to be individualised, looking at a number of aspects like sugar levels, drugs, daily extent of exercise present dietary pattern. Soto suggest a diet I need to know above details. In the mean time remember to avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, high fat milk products and alcohol. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits about 100 g a day.

Hair fall is mainly due to hormonal and genetic reasons. There are no homeremedies that vil help or quick responses for it. It can definitely be controlled. It's important to eat plenty of pulses, fish, meat and milk. Drink at least two litres water everyday. Exercise regularly. Don't stress out because you don't have long hair or because your hair's falling. Avoid all forms of chemicals, hot devices and blowdryers to prevent hair damage. Massage scalp and wash twice or thrice a week. Don't overshampoo, it'll spoil hair. Don't tie up wet hair and sleep, it'll get infected. If any infections, g et it treated. A thorough blood check up is needed to eliminate autoimmune, hormonal and nutritional diseases. Apart from this, treatment may be needed in resistant cases.
