Hello, I've been suffering from dry cough for last 5years. It occurs generally when weather changes and when I drink water after eating oily and sweet things, it only cures when I take antibiotics. Please tell me a remedy for this.

Hi. I understand your concerns. You may be having allergy. Asthma is a most common allergic condition which causes recurrent cold cough and breathing difficulty. You will need to undergo pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis and also to assess severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

Hi, it's safe to take homoeopathic medicine even in your pregnancy which I will recommend you. Bronchitis/ asthma can be treated well with homoeopathic medicines completely, only need to be regular with the medication and avoid those foods/ things to which you are allergic to for sometime. Keep taking your already on going medication, reduce it gradually and slowly once homoeopathic starts acting. Take blatta orientalis q/ 10-15 drops in 1/2 cup water/ thrice d day for 1 month. Report me back after a month.

I'm 22 year old, male, i'm suffering from sinusitis and urti diseases for last 3 to 4 years.

MS - ENT,MBBS
ENT Specialist, Kolkata
Hi  If you are  having a sinus  problems for  long we have to rule out Allergic  Rhinitis and sinusitis.  Get a CT PNS done. Or if you have one  done share the CT . Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic sinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays . *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. If polyps are present and medical management  doesn't cure Endoscopic surgery may be needed Hope this helps.

My husband is always affected with wheezing problem and Asthma. What is the best medicine for that? My son is affected with eosinophilia ie. Cough with fever.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
The best medicine for asthma are inhalers which should control the symptoms properly. But they may have to be taken regularly in most cases and not whenever needed basis. There is hereditary ling being seen in asthma so if one or both parents are asthmatic children can be at risk of having asthma. If your child has symptoms of cough frequent colds etc, you should consult a pediatrician for proper check up and treatment.

Treatment of Acute Sinusitis

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Treatment of Acute Sinusitis

Acute sinusitis is a type of infection of the sinus. It involves an infection or inflammation of your sinus membranes. The most common symptom of sinusitis is that you have trouble draining mucus from your nose. The sinus is the cavity around the nasal passage and it may swell up when this condition occurs. Usually, the symptoms are temporary. However, sometimes, especially if you suffer from chronic sinusitis, medical intervention is required.

  1. Saline Nasal Spray: This is a spray you put into your nose several times a day to clean your nasal passages.
  2. Nasal Corticosteroids: There are many types of nasal corticosteroids. They include fluticasone, budesonide, mometasone, beclomethsone. These nasal sprays not only help to treat inflammation, they help prevent to prevent inflammation as well.
  3. Aspirin: This is a type of OTC pain relievers and they help relieve the pain of acute sinusitis. Acetaminophen and ibuprofen are two other OTC pain relievers which can be used instead of aspirin.
  4. Antibiotics: Antibiotics are usually not required and should never be taken without the doctor's prescription. However, sometimes the doctor may recommend it if he thinks there is a bacterial infection or if the symptoms progress rapidly.
  5. Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy is given when allergies are the reason you are having acute sinusitis. It is rarely needed, however.
  6. Surgery: For sinusitis symptoms which are chronic or occur frequently, nasal surgery may be the best option for permanent relief. A number of different surgical procedures can be used to treat acute sinusitis such as balloon sinuplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery etc.

Pneumonia can be serious, so it's important to see a doctor if you feel like you're getting sicker.
