I am coughing since 2weeks and the it is dry cough. I don't smoke. Give me some tipsnto get rid out of this.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. You might be suffering from viral infection. Try steam inhalation and warm salt water gargling. It is also advisable to get a chest x ray done to look for lung infection as it's been more than 2 weeks. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

My wife is suffering from tubacular lymphednitis (confirmed by fnac last year) on the left side of the lymph node of neck. It is in cervical lymph node and is in swollen condition. She took t. B. Medicine and during t. B. Treatment swollen lymph node started coming to the normal shape. But after the 5th month of medicine, lymph node suddenly started increasing its size. In the seventh month we done the ultra sound of that lymph node, which showed there is a pus inside it. I have also gone for the fnac again and it again showed that t. B. Infection is still there. For further clarification and the drug sensitivity, I go for the culture test of myco bacterium of t. B. Of the pus aspirated from swollen lymph node, which further show negative results as no afb came in that. This situation has become very complicated as fnac show t. B. Infection but culture shows no signs of t. B. Infection. I again go for the fnac which again came positive with t. B. Infection and after that I have also gone for the histopathology for the specimen of the lymph node and again the culture of the specimen of the lymph node, its again came negative. Histopathology only showed inflammation and necrotising nothing else. So please suggest something helpful as the situation is very complicated as fnac test is showing t. B. Infection and other test are coming negative.

Hello doc I had been smoking for one year, a pack each day and now I have discontinued and now getting back cough. Please tell me is this normal or do I need to consult a doctor.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Please do consult a doctor anyway and prevent the progress of any condition, whether caused by smoking or otherwise. If the cough is related to a normal cold, you may be over reacting. A visit is safe and may be preventive too.

DEAR SOWNITH , ASTHMA IS BEST MANAGED BY INHALED MEDICATIONS USING A SPACER DEVICE WITH STRICT ADHERANCE TO THE TREATMENT PLAN AND REGULAR FOLLOW UP.YOU CAN USE A PREVENTER TWICE DAILY WHICH IS A COMBINATION OF BRONCHIAL AIRWAY DIALATOR AND INHALED STERIODS IN A MICRO DOSE AS AN AEROSOL ,AND RELEIVER IS A SHORT ACTING BRONCHIAL AIRWAY DIALATOR DURING AN ACUTE ATTACK. STUDIES HAVE SHOWN MINIMAL DECREASE IN LINEAR GROWTH IN CHILDREN WHO ARE ON LONG TERM USE OF INHALED STEROIDS AT HIGH DOSES ,FEW REPORTS OF SKIN PIGMENTATION,HOARSE VOICE .HOWEVER THE BENEFITS OF INHALED THERAPY FAR OUTWEIGH THE RISKS .THANKYOU

Dry cough is a sign of allergic cough. It can be due to other serious illnesses also but the longer we are having dry cough especially at your age the more sure we are that it is allergic /asthmatic cough. The pain in chest when you cough hard is because we cough with our chest muscles and abdominal muscles. So they sprain. For that hot fomentation is good. You have to 1. Avoiid all precipitating factors. 2. Do not smoke, 3, exercise regularly. 4. Consult a allergy specialist. 5. They will give you medicines as spray/ inhalation for asthma. They are safe. 6. Do not stop medicines till doctor tells. 7. You problem is luckily not a serious problem.

I want to ask about my mother. She feels difficulty breathing especially from left nostril. We went to ENT doctor, he put camera in nose and said that mass and bone is fine. The we did MRI of brain, it came out that mucus is build up in sinuses. What to do for it and why it happened?

BHMS
Homeopath, Thane
Hi, your mother is having sinusitis. Sinuses are the air spaces in our skull where mucus is secreted. And when we get cold this mucus goes on secreting from the sinuses and it comes out from nose. But if the mucus gets thick and its not drained out then it causes headache and nose obstruction and feeling of breathlessness. Take following medicines nat suph 30 4pills to be sucked thrice a day for 15 days kali bich 200 4pills to be sucked thrice a day for 15 days take plain water steam once a day avoid eating curd, icecreams, pickles, papad, citrus fruits, watermelon, green skin bananas, pineapple, strawberries, custard apple, guavas. Stop using mosquito repellants.
