Hello, Thanks for the query. Your thyroid test results are quite normal. No need to worry. Thanks.

I am 78 yrs old. I was taking urimax-d for 16 months from aug-12 but there was no improvement and then switched over to sidha medicine for enlargement of prostat and still continuing. Wt has come down from 60 to 24 gms and gone up now to 53 gms now I have hypothyroid. The Dr. Says due to thyroid the medicines did not act and both should be treated now combined what should I do now.

What medicine you were for your prostate? siddha medicine and thyroid and their effect on prostate? I think you have not received right information. For your thyroid dysfunction you can consult with me regarding further management with latest blood test. Tsh ft4 ft3.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. To prevent any problems associated with diabetes it is very essential to keep a strict control on blood glucose. FBG should e < 100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <7. This will help in maintaining proper kidney functioning also. His creatinine is quite high. It should be around 1.4 mg. His protein intake should be around 0.6 g per kg. And there should be less vigorous activity. Thanks.

HI lybrate-user, I can understand your apprehensions at not being given an appropriate advise on your condition, you gave me the results of three blood tests; lets introspect in to this first, fasting 105 - it is in the pre-diabetic range post prandial 210 - high and in the diabetic range HBA1c 6.0- It is the average blood sugar in the last 3 months. It is surprisingly normal, despite your post prandial levels being in the diabetic range. One of the explanations for this could well be that you sugar levels have started rising in the last few days, with in the last 3 months. In this situation I would suggest you to have another fasting and PLBS test done. If the PLBS is more than 200 this time around as well, it will surely confirms that you are diabetic and my recommendation would be to get started in treatment, if so,

Hi doctor I am diabetic, want to know. Can I eat roasted chana and if so what quantity should I take?

MBBS, CCEBDM

Hi doctor
I am diabetic, want to know. Can I eat roasted chana and if so what quantity should I take?
Hi Chana is a very good source of protein and fibre. It helps in reducing cholesterol and also weight loss. I consider it as a good snack for diabetics. You can have it as a regular snack. Eat it in different forms like channa curry with roti's, chana chat or just boiled or roasted chana. Include half to a cup of chana in your diet once a day.
