Mr Raj, If one is diagnosed as having hypothyroidism, then treatment is to be taken for life time. Please tell me are on thyroxine tablets now? If on treatment and then TSH is showing 6.34 mill units/ ml, means the dose is not enough, needs to be increased. If not on treatment and having symptoms of hypothyroidism then you need to start now. Plus also have to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, mustard, peanuts and coffee. Plus consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads, fruits, low fat milk products, Use whole grain flour for making chapati and roti. Exercise daily for 1 hour so as to aooid weight gain. Plus take that diet gives exact calories based on your ideal body weight.

Hi Diabetic are increasing due to many reasons. 1. Lifestyle is very bad - lot of junk foods, fast foods, sedentary lifestyle. 2. Many are not aware about pre diabetes which if detected early Diabetes can be prevented. 3. Not getting regular health checks done to screen for diabetes so that early detection can prevent diabetic complications. 4. When there is strong family history, lifestyle change has to be done early. EXERCISE: Daily brisk walking for 30min atleast 5 days a week, 3-5 Suryanamaskar a day, Breathing (pranayam)exercise for 15 min, Meditation for 10 min.

For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fiber. Avoid bakery products. Avoid too much rice and potato. Avoid fried stuff. Avoid chocolate, cakes, ice cream, soft drinks and fruit juices. Occassionaly you can have sweets but remember that whenever you have sweets on that day you should reduce the quantity of other foods item. Eat lots of vegetables. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days in a week. Medicine and insulin will work better if you follow diet and exercise.

The total calories should be more than the energy required. There should be a step-wise increase in the calories, as a sudden increase may not be tolerated. Fluids should be restricted before and during meals. At night before going to bed, have warm milk. In your diet include 1 teaspoon of desi ghee (clarified butter) (preferably prepared from cow's milk) every day.

CONTROLLING BLOOD SUGAR Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are :-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance... if you keep in touch personally.

Yes with a bmi of 28.61 kg/m2, you are overweight, but not in obese category. Your ideal body weight should be 65kgs, which means you are carrying 20 kg extra, this is a major contributor for hypertension and diabetes. My only suggestion is to follow a strict diet that gives exact calories based on ideal body weight, extent of daily physical activity and sugar level. Your caloric intake should be 65 x 25 = 1625 k cals, from this you should reduce 500 calories to lose weight (500 g a week). Plus exercise daily for more than 1 hour. I know what I have suggested is tough to emulate but if you want to be healthy do it.
