No tests are recommended as a screening for cancer at this age. PSA testing is recommended 2 yearly after the age of 50 years as a screw test for prostate cancer. If you have any habits of heavy smoking or tobacco/alcohol or supari consumption, then low dose CT scan may be recommended. Some health check packages include tumor markers and ultrasound examination. But we do not recommend those specifically for cancer prevention. Feel free to contact me directly if you want to discuss this further.

They removed bile duct, gallbladder, head of pancreas as far as I know, next which treatment should be given chemo or radiotherapy & I want to know how many days he will survive plss tell me with the experience of patients. I don't want to loose my dad so soon we need him pls!

BHMS
Homeopath,
See no one can predict the time how many days he will survive. Second thing cancer is not curable disease. So only we can increase the life of patient with surgery chemo n radio with supportive care. So whatever oncologist n oncosurgeon tell you go with them have a faith in them. Chemo is used for killing the cells m radio is used for killing the metas.

Adrenal Cancer - What are Its Symptoms

MBBS & Post Graduate Course in Diabetology, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), CCEBDM, Certificate course in management of Thyroid disorders-CCMTD
Diabetologist, Bangalore
Adrenal Cancer - What are Its Symptoms

Cancer can affect even small glands like the adrenal glands. Adrenal glands are responsible for the production of hormones like cortisol and aldosterone. These glands are located above the kidneys and have two parts; the cortex and the medulla. Adrenal cancer generally affects the cortex of the adrenal glands. This type of cancerous tumour is rare and can be difficult to diagnose.

Most adrenal cancer symptoms are triggered by an excessive production of estrogen and androgen. Symptoms can also be caused by the pressure put on other organs by the tumour. Adrenal cancer symptoms are most easily noticeable in children as this is the stage where the body is changing and developing. Some of these symptoms are:

  1. Facial hair growth
  2. Excessive pubic and underarm hair
  3. An enlarged penis or clitoris
  4. Early onset of puberty in girls
  5. Development of enlarged breasts in boys

Symptoms of adrenal cancer in adults includes:

  1. Excessive weight gain in the abdomen and above the collar bone
  2. High blood pressure
  3. Irregular menstruation
  4. Easy bruising
  5. Depression
  6. Frequent urge to urinate
  7. Muscle cramps

Additionally, men with adrenal cancer that causes excessive estrogen production may notice an enlargement of breast tissue and tenderness in the area. Women suffering from excessive androgen production triggered by adrenal cancer may notice their voice deepening and facial hair growth. In most cases, adrenal cancer symptoms in women do not appear until the tumour presses on other organs. This includes symptoms like pain around the tumor, a feeling of fullness in the abdomen and difficulty eating because of this feeling.

The cause of adrenal cancer has not yet been determined, but conditions such as Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis and multiple endocrine neoplasia can increase a person’s risk of suffering from this disease. A thorough physical examination and a detailed medical history is required to diagnose this disease. The doctor will also need a blood test and urine test. Additional tests that may be required include:

  1. Biopsy of the tumor
  2. CT scan
  3. MRI scan
  4. PET scan
  5. Adrenal angiography

Adrenal cancer can be cured if diagnosed in its early stages. There are three types of treatment for adrenal cancer; surgery to remove the adrenal gland, chemotherapy and radiation. However, adrenal cancer can recur and hence it is important to schedule and maintain regular check-ups with your doctor.

Bone cancer could be of various types. It may be due to some genetic alterations in some cases, but in most of them, there is no cause. There are various types of bone tumors. Osteoclastomas are locally recurrent tumors, osteochondromas or enchondromas are benign tumors. There could be cysts, which are benign. Metastasises are the most common tumours of the bone. They could be from prostate, lung, Breast, thyroid, kidney, urinary bladder, rarely head and neck cancers. There could be myeloma, plasmacytoma, which need chemotherapy or radiation. The osteosarcoma and Ewinga's tumor are chemosensitive tumors. Osteosarcoma needs surgery aswell. There are chondrosarcomas also. The treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation and surgery according to the type of tumour. Surgery involves limb preserving surgery, where modular prosthesis can be used. If neurovascular bundle is involved, then amputation would be required.

My father has one kidney and now has 49 grams prostrate we want to cure prostrate please guide. Operation or medicine? and if operation than which type of operation ?

MS gen.surgery
General Surgeon,
I will advice for surgery either turp or lesar prostatectomy. Single kidney is not contraidication on cotarary I will say it is one of indication to avoid load as well as infection of that kidney. Turp or laser prostetectomy is more safe&reliable than trial with medicine.

Cervical Cancer - Symptoms And Treatment!

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Cervical Cancer - Symptoms And Treatment!

Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells on the cervix grow out of control. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervical Cancer is one of the most common ailments that women suffer from, making it only more important to be taken seriously and treated immediately.

Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV. You can get HPV by having sexual contact with someone who has it. There are many types of the HPV virus. Not all types of HPV cause cervical cancer. Some of them cause genital warts, but other types may not cause any symptoms.

Most adults have been infected with HPV at some time. An infection may go away on its own. But sometimes it can lead to cervical cancer. That's why it's important for women to have regular screening. A screening can find changes in cervical cells before they turn into cancer. If you treat these cell changes, you may prevent cervical cancer.

Symptoms of Cervical Cancer may include:

  1. Bleeding from the vagina that is not normal, such as bleeding between menstrual periods, after sex, or after menopause.
  2. Persistent abnormal discharge.

Cervical cancer is the easiest gynecologic cancer to prevent, with regular screening tests and follow-up. Two screening tests can help prevent cervical cancer or find it early:

  1. The Pap test (or Pap smear) looks for precancers, cell changes on the cervix that might become cervical cancer if they are not treated appropriately.
  2. The HPV test looks for the virus (human papillomavirus) that can cause these cell changes.

When to Get Screened

You should start getting regular Pap tests at age 21. The Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer, is one of the most reliable and effective cancer screening tests available. The Pap test is the best way to find cervical cell changes that can lead to cervical cancer. Regular Pap tests almost always show these cell changes before they turn into cancer. It's important to follow up with your doctor after any abnormal Pap test result so you can treat abnormal cell changes. This may help prevent cervical cancer.

Treatment-

In spite of being a fatal ailment, over the years various treatments have evolved that deal with this problem effectively. Some of them are:

1. Surgery: One of the effective and oft availed treatment to cure cervical cancer is surgery. Depending on the stage on which the disease is detected, doctors may suggest for a hysterectomy or removing the pelvic nymph nodes.

2. Chemotherapy: This has emerged as the most sought after way of treating any form of cancer. The abnormal growth of cells that triggers cancer in the first place is deterred in this method by administering drugs to destroy them.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Prostate enlargement requires a full clinical evaluation for the cause of enlargement. It is important to assess ultrasound status and post void residual urine along with serum PSA before starting any medications. If benign hypertrophy is present you can start tablet Urimax D daily once at bedtime.
