Pedophilia is an unnatural or abnormal attraction towards children of either or both sexes, usually aged thirteen years or younger. A pedophile's attraction towards adults varies. They fantasize and/or act on their fantasies with children who have not reached puberty. Pedophilia is one of the most common paraphilia (abnormal sexual desires). The DSM i. E. Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders has included pedophilia as a mental disorder.

Here are a few facts about the disorder:

1. Pedophilic disorder is when pedophiles approach children to sexually gratify themselves or if desires towards children make them feel guilty and anxious and so, they alienate themselves from the society and are unable to achieve their personal goals.

2. One very important fact that one must keep in mind is that not all pedophiles molest children and not all child molesters are pedophiles. When one desires children, they are pedophilic. But only when they act on their desires, and sexually assault children, they are child molesters.

3. Since most pedophiles do not come forward or admit to having sexual desires towards children, most of the studies have been conducted on the pedophilic child molesters. However, the number of pedophiles is vast considering that there are about 4 million websites in business catering to child pornography.

4. Opening up and seeking help from a psychologist or psychiatrist might help them in curbing and managing these desires and prevent them from acting on them and committing sexual offenses. In rare cases, pedophiles are also prescribed medications to lower their sex drive.

5. Male pedophiles are far more common than female ones.

6. Most of the child sex offenders are family and relatives.

7. Psychologists believe that children who are lonely and aloof, and feel neglected are at a higher risk of being sexually abused. The type of activities differs in each case, while some just undress and look at a child, others force the child to take part and perform oral sex and/or touch the genitals or more.

8. In most countries, it is mandatory to report a pedophile to the authorities even when there is no risk, which is why most pedophiles do not come forward and admit having this disorder. They refrain from seeking help.

However, there is a prevention project dunkelfeld in Germany that provides free of cost services to people who are attracted to children, but are dedicated to not to act on their desires and molest children. This program maintains its members' confidentiality. Such programs are essential for a healthy society.

I am 35 years old. Since last 20 years I am suffering from depression, anxiety,panic attacks. Lost career. Relationships.everything. Tried many treatments, no one suggested me to see psychiatrist. After divorce have been sexually harassed by so many people, everyone approaching me just for sex, when I refuse they abuse me verbally. Most of them are my school friends, people I knew for many years. Because I am divorcee, and I am so much emotionally and mentally disturb they are trying to take advantage of my situation. I have blocked everyone. I have stopped receiving calls. I have stopped going out. I am so afraid to go out as I can not handle this sexual harassment anymore. I am rape victim. I do not know how I am going to spend rest of my life. There is any way that I can live normal life ever again.

Dear lybrate-user, Am so sorry to hear about what all you have been through, I am sure it has not been easy but you're a tough woman! I want you to understand that you are not alone and there is help available for you. The depression, panic, anxiety and all other symptoms and life situations have their root in the trauma you have faced, this includes the sexual harassment. I understand why you have isolated yourself but this will lead to loneliness. I want you to know that you're a strong woman and you can change your life situation. You just need to stay strong and focus your mind towards a better future. I strongly recommend clinical hypnotherapy to help you with your fears and anxiety and for the trauma, counselling with a good psychologist or counsellor. In the mean time, Pls start rebuilding your life again, start by stepping out of the house, going for long walks to clear your mind and practising some yoga and meditation. How do I concentrate with my studies second I can't resist a sex with am really carried away anytime help me with those thank you.

To concentrate in you r studies you hav to give priority to something you really wanted to do, that is your studies ,but as you are preoccupied with other senses, it is becoming difficult. Your mind and your body which has to be under your control but unfortunately you are slave to your own wishes, at very first instance you have to develop confidence in you that, surely you will come out of this extream sex drive, which in future is not good as indulging in more sex then normal will cause premature evacuation, impotency and extream cases weak sperms and infertility will develop there are some exercise that surly will helpful to you 1. Get up early morning around 5.30 am and after a bath, do prayers and meditation for 10 minutes go for 5 minutes brisk Walk and 3 minutes stop and take deep breaths. In your condition you have to tell yourself that" I will come out of it "atleast 10 times. Repeat this 5 times. 2. Early morning after walk take one glass of warm water with 2 spoons of honey and 4 drops of lemons in it. This refresh you and helps you to remove toxins from your body. 3. If the drive is more fasting will help you at least fast for 2 days in a week, if you really wanted to come out of it. 3. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, take less protein and fat diet. 4. Never be alone, try to indulge in some good deeds like helping poor and needy. This will help to identify the beauty of life and charity and the satisfaction from it. 5. Realizing the meaning of your name will definitely help you, understand it and remember that God is always with you and love those who really wanted to go on right path.

I smoke too much so what to do to maintain low risk? And due to that I get exhausted too early.Please suggest me something for controlling that.

You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check-up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact, these conditions can exist all through the day, unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heartbeat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact, it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chew gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. You could also join twitter2quit program and enjoy its success to give up smoking.

Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Stammering can also be due to anxiety. Consult a psychiatrist and seek remedy. All the best.

I am at that stage of my life where I can't figure out things. I have too many things that are causing sadness. There is anxiety, there is forgetfulness, lack of interest, no happiness from within. Please do pranayam. Spend time with small children. Try to be a leader. Not follower. Give lecture to some body at home for a few minutes. If nobody then just think someone is listening. Do talk. Talk to yourself positively for ten minutes. Wear clean clothes and eat healthy homemade food. Plan your activity for each day and week in advance. If studying then try to top in any one subject. Pray every day.

I am unable to concentrate on studies for longer time. I can not get sound sleep.

If you are unable to concentrate on studies for a longer time, take short breaks in between. Study for only 2 to 3 hours everyday but be consistent. If you read you will remember but if you write the important points, you will remember more easily. Also writing will decrease eye strain due to continuous reading. Practice meditation for effective concentration on studies. If you do not get sound sleep, do not take stress. Do not use your bed for studying; use it only for sleeping. Do not study just before sleeping time. Relax your mind before you go to sleep. If you have stress of studies, please discuss with your friends or family members.

There are certain adaptations that will suit you during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime you can do certain things that will give you benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You need to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that you may never be aware of now. Talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times you will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that you can do without the medication. This will set you back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i.e. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in you for a personal understanding. Regarding some of the symptoms here goes: Mania is a term that describes the emotional highs of bipolar disorder. In general, symptoms of a manic episode may include: •High energy, excessive activity, and/or restlessness •Overly good mood •Irritability •Fast, erratic talking •Racing thoughts •Inability to concentrate •Little need for sleep •Feelings of power •Poor judgment •Reckless spending •High sex drive •Alcohol or drug abuse •Aggression •Refusal to admit that there is a problem Bipolar Symptoms: Depression In bipolar disorder, manic episodes alternate with periods of emotional lows, which are known as depressive episodes. Signs of a depressive episode may include: •Sadness, anxiety, or a feeling of emptiness •Hopelessness •Feelings of guilt, feeling worthless, or feeling helpless •Lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyable, such as sex •Low energy •Trouble with concentration or memory •Restlessness or irritability •Excessive sleeping or insomnia •Changes in appetite or weight •Pain or other physical symptoms not explained by an illness or injury Thoughts of death, or suicidal thoughts or attempts to kill the self.

One of the emerging psychiatric disorder that has significant medical and psychiatric consequences is compulsive sexual behaviour or hypersexuality, is an obsession with sexual thoughts in which people cannot manage their sexual behaviour. It may involve a commonly enjoyable sexual experience as self-stimulation which becomes an obsession. The person suffering from the condition may also get involved in sexual behaviours that are outside the bounds of commonly accepted conduct like paying for sex or having extramarital affairs.

Untreated compulsive sexual behaviour damages one’s self-esteem, health, job, relationships and career. However, with treatment and self-help, one can manage compulsive sexual behaviour and learn to manage one’s urge. Males are more likely to be unfaithful than females because they have stronger sexual impulses and weaker self-controlCompulsive sexual behaviour symptoms vary in type and severity. During intense sexual impulses, one feels as if they're beyond control. This is the first and the most common symptom as the patient uses compulsive sexual behaviour as an escape route for problems like loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. One has trouble establishing and maintaining emotional closeness, even if one is married or in a committed relationship.

The treatment for compulsive sexual behaviour involves psychotherapy and medications. A primary goal of treatment is to help one manage urges and reduce excessive behaviours while maintaining healthy sexual activities. If one has compulsive sexual behaviour, one may need treatment for mental health condition. People with compulsive sexual behaviour often have alcohol or drug abuse problems or a mood disorder such as depression.

Counselling sessions can help one learn how to manage one’s compulsive sexual behaviour. Intensive treatment programs for compulsive sexual behaviours focus on identification of core triggers and beliefs about sexual addiction. It assists in development of healthier choices and coping skills to minimize urges and deal with the preoccupation of sexual addiction. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can prove to be very useful as it focuses on increasing one’s awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviours, and developing new insights into their motivations. Resolving conflicts using this therapy is also recommended. The other kind of treatment program is cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps one to identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Family therapy and couples therapy may restore trust, minimize shame and guilt thus establishing a healthy sexual relationship between partners.

Medications include anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers and anti-androgens have also been used to treat compulsive sexual behaviour. Anti-androgens are prescribed as it reduces the biological effects of sex hormones in men thus reducing sexual urges. Luteinizing hormone is also prescribed as it reduces obsessive sexual thoughts by reducing the production of testosterone. Anti-seizure medications, naltrexone, and medications which decrease male hormones have been found to decrease the compulsive urges and impulses associated with sexual addictions for some sufferers.

Every individual experiences anxiety in some form at some point of time. One suffers from an anxiety disorder if one experiences dogged, unrealistic worrying about everyday life. One is said to experience panic attack if the abrupt attacks have symptoms like racing heart, nausea, tremors and intense fear. A panic attack is a sudden rush of overwhelming anxiety and fear. The heart pounds and breathing becomes difficult. If ignored and untreated, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and may cause one to withdraw from normal activities. 

With a little mindful attention and practice, one can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of a panic attack, manage anxiety, and prevent attacks from occurring in the future and regain control of life. If one is having a panic attack, then the aim is to calm oneself at the moment by breathing deeply. This would reduce the stress and provide oxygen to the brain to help one focus. Hold your breath to start with and reduce the feeling of choking and then begin to breathe slowly. Inhale through nose and exhale through mouth till one notices a difference in muscle relaxation and clarity of thought.

During a panic attack, your thoughts are often jumbled up. This is due to the fact that one's heart rate has kicked off and breathing is in high gear, muscles are tensed and blood flow is constricted. One should try to focus on one's senses and should distract the mind from fear through different mental diversions. This can be as simple as reciting the lyrics to your favourite song or poem until one has calmed down a bit. It is important that one should make sure not to distract by leaving the situation that has caused the panic. One must ride out the panic attack at the same place else one will likely associate that place or situation with fear triggering future attacks.

Try to practice progressive muscle relaxation by slowly going through body and tensing and relaxing each muscle group. It relaxes muscles as well as forces one to concentrate on something other than fear. Although, if one want to reduce the anxiety, don't ignore it. One should try stop anxiety producing thoughts and replace them with images of something that brings you happiness or peace. Using guided image of a place where one feel at peace and relaxed, reduce one's experience of anxiety. Further, add details to the scene, so that one is focusing the entire mind on imagining it. 

Taking care of one's physical health will help take care of mental health. Healthy exercise and diet habits will help you manage manage anxiety. Getting an body active, especially through aerobic exercise, releases chemicals that are responsible for increasing ones feelings of peace and happiness. Stimulants like as caffeine and nicotine worsen existing anxiety and dependence on them can increase feelings of stress and anxiety when one don't get enough of it. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of lean protein, complex carbohydrates like whole grains, and fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid processed and high-sugar foods. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist and ask a free question.

I am 30 years old. I got frequent depression and anxiety from the age of thirteen. This is the third time. Only in this time I consult with doc. He prescribe me S-Vocita 10 mg and Felicita OD. I do not know why this is happen to me rather then other disease. Due to this I am not able to do any new things in my life. Dear Lybrate user. Since you are diagnosed (as you mentioned) having anxiety and depression disorder at the age 13, you may have to take the tablets prescribed by your doc. For a long time in order to get good results. Every human being has to experience some kind of anxiety/depressive mood, but in your case they exist a little bit higher in degree, that's all. Problems of anxiety/depressive disorders are now-a-days no big deal if properly treated and followed by the patient. Of course the medicines you are taking are good ones, but my suggestion is it is better to have psychotherapy (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in particular) in order to get better results. Don't lose hope. A combination of psychiatric medicines + Psychotherapy (CBT) + your will power and patience = Best results. Request your psychiatrist to find a Psychotherapist in your nearest locality.

Hi Lybrate user, Concentrating while studying can be hard, especially when the study material isn't one of your favorite topics. Here are some tips that you can follow- 1. Look for an appropriate study environment- like sit in private room or library, open air 2. Clear the study space- keep your surroundings clean 3. Turn off all unnecessary electronics- like phone 4. Stick to a routine- follow your study schedule 5. Find a study partner- Sometimes reviewing material with someone else can help break up the monotony of studying, clarify confusing concepts by bouncing ideas off of someone else, and see things from a different perspective. 6. Think of an incentive- Before you start studying, think of something that can serve as a reward for you successfully studying. An incentive can motivate you to concentrate on studying for a specific amount of time, and then you reward yourself for your solid block of time concentrating on your work. 7. Eat a healthy diet like- eat more of proteins (animal proteins like- chicken, eggs, fish- plant proteins like- sprouts, pulses, soy, milk, yogurt etc) instead of eating more of fat foods, fried foods. Medication

Dietary changes
A diet rich in fats and low in carbohydrates can help reduce seizures. This is known as a ketogenic diet and aims at making the body break down fats instead of carbohydrates. It can cause a buildup of uric acid in the body and thus should be practiced only under the guidance of a dietician. In cases where epileptic attacks are triggered by malnutrition and birth defects, taking vitamin supplements can help lower the frequency of seizures.

Anyone can get shoulder pain, and the cause might be simple to serious. You may get shoulder pain because of minor injury, carrying too much weight on the shoulders, poor posture, and any underlying health condition. Sometimes the pain comes and goes on its own without any need of taking medicines, but at times, it becomes difficult to treat them.

Conditions which may lead to shoulder pain may include rotator cuff disorders, instability of shoulders, frozen shoulder, broken arm, broken collarbone, and acromioclavicular joint problems.

The following are a few common causes-

1. Rotator cuff disorder:

A rotator cuff is a group of tendons and muscles which surround the shoulder joint. Tendons are hard and rubbery cords that link muscles to bones. The rotator cuff holds the joint in the right position so that it can move in a desired and controlled way. There are different types of rotator cuff disorder, and each of them leads to various symptoms. But common aspects of the problem include:

  • Pain which starts worsening during activities involving the arm above shoulder level. This may include brushing the hair.
  • Pain occurring on the front side of the shoulder which tends to worsen during the night
  • Ache that occurs on the front and side of the shoulder

Different types of rotator cuff disorders and their characteristics are as follows:

  • Tendonitis and bursitis- Tendonitis refers to the swelling of tendon while bursitis is inflammation of the bursa. Bursa is the fluid-filled sacs that are typically placed on the joints and in between bones and tendons.
  • Tears- A torn tendon or muscle cause possible weakness and severe pain in the arm and shoulder. Some people also feel a popping sensation when they move the shoulder.

2. Shoulder instability

The shoulder is a type of ball and socket joint and shoulder instability takes place when the ball part of the shoulder fails to fit in correctly in the socket. It can range from catching or slipping feeling to total shoulder dislocation where the ball entirely comes out of the socket.

3. Frozen shoulder

Also referred to as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is a painful and persistent stiffness present in the shoulder joint. This makes it very difficult for carrying out the full range of normal shoulder movements. Frozen shoulder takes place when there is swallowing, thickening, and tightening of the flexible tissue which surrounds the shoulder joint. This doesn’t allow enough space for the upper arm bone or humerus in the shoulder joint and makes shoulder movement painful and stiff. A person affected with frozen shoulder may find it difficult to carry out the daily chores such as driving, exercising, and sleeping in a comfortable position. Some people may find it absolutely impossible to move their shoulders at all. The symptoms of frozen shoulder can vary to a great extent, but it starts advancing at a gradual pace.

When left untreated, shoulder pain may or may not worsen. When it does worsen it is important to see your doctor.

Hello Lybrate User. Stress is a hidden enemy with a constant capacity to wrack havoc on your body and mind. Its actions are insidious, slow but powerful. The consequences can be debilitating on your physical and mental wellbeing. This is even more relevant today, in our extremely complex civilized society where stress triggers are automated by our rushed living. After more then 10 years battling the consequences of extreme stress and testing numerous techniques I can give you 21 ways to manage stress. Just be disciplined about it and apply them constantly. You will be amazed by the results. 1. Go to sleep early and get up early. This is a powerful routine that will manage your stress hormones and give you a fresh start every day. 2. Start a morning routine. Dedicate just 20 minutes every morning to yourself, to clear your mind and thoughts and prepare for the journey ahead. My routine consists of 10 minutes meditation, a cocktail of green and black tea follow by a green shake, and writing a few thoughts in my journal 3. Improve your diet. This is essential. Eat better, whole foods at regular intervals throughout the day; eat slowly, chew your food and don’t drink your calories. 4. Drink plenty of water every day, throughout the day. You should aim for at least 2 liters. 5. Stay away from coffee and smoking. Those habits will interfere with your adrenaline and cortisol levels, increasing stress and anxiety. 6. Improve your sleep. You want to improve not just your sleep quantity but your sleep quality also. Make sure your bedroom has the right temperature for sleep, the air is clean and that you keep your phone and laptop in another room. 7. Make time to relax throughout the day. Consciously relax every morning through prayer and meditation. Also take a break in the afternoon and find at least half an hour of private time in the evening just to relax. 8. Breathe! Incorrect breathing patterns interfere with your O2-CO2 balance and can trigger stress response, anxiety and panic attacks. Try to breathe through your abdomen, not your chest, and train yourself to slowly breathe in and extend your exhalations. Avoid hyperventilation 9. Reduce your sitting time. If you have a desk job, mindfully remind yourself to stand up and walk for at least five minutes every hour. 10. Go for a walk. Walking for 15 minutes daily, preferably in a park has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood and increase stamina. 11. Try a technology detox every week. Prolonged smartphone using has been linked to increased stress so try to have a technology fast. Pick a day of the week and just don’t use your phone or tablet. The world won’t stop and you will feel better the next day 12. Drink a morning vitamin shake. I use almond milk, yoghurt, green powder, banana, vegan protein, flaxseeds and chia seeds 13. Find a hobby and stick to it. I used art which kept me busy in a meaningful and distressful way 14. Smile more and find reasons to be optimistic. Every day when I write in my journal or my to do list I star by drawing a smiley face. That is how I program my brain for a optimistic view of things 15. Manage rumination and mind chatter. Try to stop inner mind dialogues and meaningless mind chatter 16. Practice mindfulness. I do it when eating, when walking, when breathing 17. Exercise more. Working out has been linked by numerous studies to improved mood, happiness and less stress. Take up an exercise routine, run, join a gym or just walk every day 18. Try an evening ritual. Mine consist of taking a bath while listening to relaxing music. Simple yet effective 19. Read more and watch TV less. This will unwind your racing mind and automatically calm your body 20. Make social life a habit. This will reduce cortisol levels to a healthy dose and improve your mood while spending a quality time with friends 21. Snack on healthy food. No ice-cream or cake but instead try a handful of nuts, a yoghurt or an apple. Try all these activities and stay happy in your life thank you All the Best.

Ayurvedic remedies:

  1. Drink adequate amount of water, especially from a copper vessel. This helps to accumulate the wastes and release them.
