Fighting High Cholesterol? Beat It Now!

Deadlines to meet at work, household chores, family responsibilities, you try to manage everything. But what you end up ignoring is – your health. And this has become common for most of the adults these days. When health should be the prime concern, it, in all the hustle bustle of life, takes a backseat.

Not paying attention to our health takes a toll on health. And if any health problem isn’t arrested in time, the condition is bound to get worse. One such health issue very prevalent now-a-days, even among youngsters, is high cholesterol, which is the trigger behind many heart-related ailments, including heart attack.

What leads to high cholesterol?

There are multiple factors that play a role in spiking the cholesterol levels. Some of the prominent ones are:

  • Unhealthy diet: Food that we eat has a lot of bad fat (LDL), causing a rise in LDL and triglycerides. This builds up and blocks arteries, raising the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • Hereditary factors: If you have family history of high cholesterol, then maybe it is a reason for you to start worrying. The inherited form of high cholesterol may lead to early blockages or stroke.
  • Being over-weight: Obesity or even simply being overweight is another cause of high cholesterol.
  • Sedentary lifestyle: People who spend their life sitting or lying the whole day are at a huge risk of high cholesterol.
  • Smoking/alcohol consumption: Cigarette smoking plays a significant role in your cholesterol level. It lowers the level of good cholesterol (HDL). Similarly, consuming alcohol regularly can damage liver and heart muscles, which leads to high blood pressure and causes the level of cholesterol in the body to rise.
  • Age and gender: The level of cholesterol naturally begins to rise, as you turn 20. Females after menopause can have higher level of cholesterol than men. Hence as, you age maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet.

How can you control high cholesterol?

It is very important to not let your cholesterol levels rise in the body. And doing so isn’t difficult. You just have to be cautious about your eating habits and consume food which are heart healthy. Apart from food, exercising is something you must make a routine. And if you smoke or consume too much of alcohol, then you must limit that too.

Also, you can start taking multivitamins that are good for your heart. There are products available in the market like Setu Beat It which can be your savior. Setu Beat It is a highly functional multivitamin with Coenzyme CoQ10 and grape seed extracts that enhance your heart’s function, protects against increased blood pressure and fulfills the body’s need to be active.

CoQ10 is the ultimate protector of your heart and is an energy giving nutrient.

Grape seed extract has strong properties of relaxing blood tissues and is a great anti-oxidant. It breaks down free radicals that are created when you are under stress.

It also is loaded with Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12 and Folates that decrease the risk of heart disease and pave the way for heart’s wellbeing.

You have to be careful about your health, and cholesterol is something that should always be kept under check. And if time is a constraint, you can fight high cholesterol levels and simply beat it with Setu Beat It.

Sulking - Why Do People Do It?

Sulking - Why Do People Do It?

Different people have different anger reactions. Very few of us manage anger assertively. Some of us, shout, talk loudly, use abusive language, hit others whereas a few others prefer to stay quiet and not express their anger. People who do not want to talk about their anger, are either scared of ruining the relationship or are feeling helpless. These type of people are visibly upset. They may not show their anger outwardly but their body is tensed. They want to vent out their anger but for some reason are unable to do so. They are "sulking". It is important to understand that the person who is sulking, is very angry. A `sulker’ is unusually quiet because s/he is using `sulking’ to reduce the force of anger. By reducing the anger gradually, s/he is reducing the intensity of anger so as to avoid aggressive reactions.

When people sulk, they feel very sad and surprisingly, sometimes they don't even realize that they are angry. "Sulking" is a defense mechanism, may be chosen unconsciously. The "Sulker" chooses this mechanism to  maintain calm/peace. This defense mechanism has two definite negative consequences. Which are :

  1. Sulking invites ridicule and
  2. Sulking reveals the loser.

It is so true! When a person sulks, others imagine that this person is "weak", "timid", "helpless" and "someone who is at fault". Sulking does not help, because even if, after sulking a person goes back to make peace with the other, s/he appears like a fool, loser, needy and may be clingy. So instead of sulking, If people learn to express their anger without being aggressive, it can help them a lot. They will feel powerful, wiser, and certainly, they will not feel like a fool or a loser.

How Can You Ease And Prevent Eczema Flare-Ups?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology

How Can You Ease And Prevent Eczema Flare-Ups?

Are you experiencing skin itchiness and development of dry, scaly rashes on your skin? This indicates you have eczema, which is a group of skin diseases occurring due to the inflammation and irritation of skin. Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of eczema. The disease can be controlled if proper treatment is undertaken.

Symptoms
Itchy skin is the most common symptom of eczema. In some cases, the itching starts before the development of the rash. The rash appears most commonly on the back of the knees, face, hands, wrists and feet. The affected areas become dry and thickened and in people with a fair complexion, the areas may turn reddish initially and then become brown.

Causes
The specific cause of eczema is yet to be determined. However, the condition is associated with an overactive response by the immune system to an external irritant. This response leads to eczema. The condition is more common in people who have a family history of allergies or asthma.

Treatment

  • As the condition turns the skin dry and itchy, certain creams and lotions are recommended to be used in order to keep the skin moist. You should apply these products when your skin is damp, ideally after taking a shower. This helps the skin in retaining moisture. You can use a cold compress to ease the itching.
  • Several creams such as hydrocortisone cream and ointments which contain corticosteroids are prescribed in order to reduce inflammation.
  • In case the affected area becomes infected, antibiotics should be taken to eliminate the infection-causing bacteria.
  • Antihistamines are used for reducing the severity of the itching.

Prevention of Eczema Flare-ups

  • Moisturize your skin frequently
  • Avoid sudden changes in humidity or temperature
  • Abstain from overheating and sweating
  • Try to reduce stress
  • Avoid starchy material
  • Avoid soaps, detergents and solvents, which are harsh
  • Be aware of food items which trigger eczema flare-ups

It is recommended for you to consult a dermatologist if you experience any symptom of eczema. This will help you with a quick diagnosis so that you can start the treatment without further worsening of the symptoms.

Dandruff In Winters - 7 Quick Ways You Can Manage It!

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Surat
Dandruff In Winters - 7 Quick Ways You Can Manage It!

Dandruff is a typical scalp condition, which happens when the bacteria on your skin congest because of stress, hormonal imbalance or changes in your eating routine. As they shed off, they leave small white chips or flakes in your hair and on your shoulders, which in turn causes more anxiety and irritation.

Dandruff can decrease in winter since the flakes or pieces are not really brought on by frosty, dry air. The main cause is an excess of malassezia bacteria. Dandruff is not a serious health condition, but sufferers make a special effort to keep the flakes from falling. Managing dandruff in winters can be tough. However, here are a few methods to cure dandruff.

Tips to help you manage it

  1. Get into a warm shower. Apply a quarter of the special dandruff cleanser or shampoo to your palm. Smudge the cleanser through your hair, concentrating on the scalp region. Give the cleanser a chance to sit for five minutes so that it works properly and after that, flush it out. Wash your hair once every day with the dandruff cleanser.
  2. Wet your hair once you are in the shower and pour three tablespoons of heated baking soda onto your hand. Rub the heated baking soda on your scalp using delicate and gentle movements to get rid of the dead skin and sleek flakes. Wash your hair with warm water.
  3. Pour two tablespoons of lemon juice onto your scalp and rub it using your fingers. Rinse your hair with warm water. Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with some water and pour it over your head. Try not to wash out the last lemon-juice application.
  4. Pour one to two tablespoons of table salt in your hand and back the salt delicately into your scalp to remove up the dead skin. Rinse your hair with water to expel the salt, and then wash your hair well with warm water, using a quarter of the cleanser. Apply conditioner if needed.
  5. Walk or sit outside in the sun for 20 to 30 minutes every day. A few people find that the ultra-violet beams from the sun lessen dandruff in the winter months. Keep in mind to wear sunscreen.
  6. Exfoliate your scalp. You swamp off dead skin cells with body scours. A similar idea can be used on your scalp. Once every week, apply a special exfoliating scalp cover on your head before applying the cleanser. It targets the bacteria and tenderly lifts away the dead cells, while calming your scalp in the meantime.
  7. Switch up your shower schedule. Consistency is key when you are attempting to battle dandruff. Do not hope to get rid of your dandruff by using the cleanser once. In spite of the fact that you will see a prompt change after using it once, you need to utilize it twice every week to see longlasting results.
