MBBS, DHMS-Harvard, Masters in Clinical Dermatology

Excessive Perspiration? Don't Sweat it! BOTOX It

Botox is the latest advanced therapy for getting rid of that excess sweat! Made in vogue by famous celebrities like Kelly Ripa, Botox will prevent sweat stains, sweaty feet and sweaty palms for up to 6-8 months at a time. At Agelock Skin Clinic, we are highly experienced in treating you for those tell-tale signs with Botox.

How Does It Work?

Botox will stop the sweat glands from working by paralyzing their activity. See, each sweat gland also uses muscles to eject sweat and other materials out of the pores. By using Botox, those muscles become weaker so they are can’t make that sweat anymore!

How Do We Do It & How Long Does It Last?

First, we will do a starch test to identify where you are sweating the most. Remember, don’t apply antiperspirants for 2i4 hours before this test!
Then we will do painless microinjections in the required areas using Botox! Yes, the injections are painless because we gently numb the area using simple creams, and then only do quick superficial infusions of the botox for the minimum of pain.
Requiring only one sitting every 6-12 months, your sweating will stop within the next few days, giving you dry and stain-free underarms, hands and feet for months!

Are There Any Risks?

We offer the best treatment for hyperhidrosis or excess sweating. Our therapies are safe and ultra-effective! Typically, Botox in the underarms, palms and feet are very safe when done by an experienced practitioner. The meso-injections are done very gently and superficially so that only the sweat glands get affected!

Hair Loss and Premature Graying

Hair Loss and Premature Graying

Stress, worry, anxiety, and inadequate nutrition lead to hair loss and premature graying of hair. A certain amount of hair loss is considered normal, as old strands are replaced by new. When hair loss is excessive, care must be taken. Similarly, the graying of hair after a certain age is a normal phenomenon, but when this starts in the early years of life, one should look into for remedies.

Causes

Increased intake of fried, sour, spicy, salty, and fermented foods, as well as tea and coffee, aggravate the Pitta Dosha (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) in the body. This Pitta accumulates in the skin of the scalp, leading to hair falling out and graying prematurely. Factors like excessive anger and stress are also responsible. Excessive consumption of alcohol and meat also aggravate Pitta.

Symptoms

  • Loss of hair

Ayurvedic Hair Loss and Premature Graying Treatment

Hair loss is known as Khalitya in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, hair is a byproduct of bone formation and the tissue responsible for building bones is also responsible for the growth of hair. Early hair loss is related to body type and the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). People who have excess Pitta in their body are likely to lose their hair early in life, or have prematurely thin or gray hair. Excess Pitta in the sebaceous gland, at the root of the hair, or folliculitis can lead to hair loss.

Ayurvedic treatment of hair loss is aimed at pacification of Pitta through a customized diet and lifestyle regime, along with medication. A combination of diet, herbs, oil massage, meditation, aromatherapy, breathing and yoga can be beneficial in addressing the problem of hair loss and premature graying of hair.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid Pitta-aggravating foods like spicy, heavy, and oily foods, as well as tea and coffee.

  • Avoid refined foods, refined sugar, junk food, and alcoholic and carbonated drinks.

  • Increase intake of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, and vegetable juice prepared from lettuce, carrot, capsicum, and alfalfa.

  • Avoid using chemical products on the hair. Try herbal oils and shampoos instead.

Home Remedies

  • Mix powdered Indian gooseberry (amla) and sesame seeds in equal amounts. Take 1 teaspoon twice a day with water.

Topmost Winter Foods By Ayurveda For Your Diet This Season

Sexologist Clinic
Sexologist, Faridabad
Topmost Winter Foods By Ayurveda For Your Diet This Season

1. Sahaj (hereditary), or immunity you're born with.
2. Kalaj (seasonal), or immunity that comes and goes with seasons/age/time.
3. Yuktikrit (established), or immunity you can develop with a regular and balanced diet, and systemic practice of yoga.

It is the third type of immunity we want to bolster during the winters, which you can easily do by adopting an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Here's our guide to eating healthy and staying strong this winter season.

1. Kindle the fire in your stomach

More than half your immunity is driven by the process of digestion. Ayurveda equates digestive strength with a "fire" (known as 'agni' in Sanskrit) in the stomach. Because we tend to become fairly lethargic during winters, this agni may lose some of its potency. That's why it's important to include generous amounts of natural oils, desi ghee, and butter in your diet to keep this flame alive.

  1. Boil your food!

Boiled food is one of the best options for winter. Have plenty of soup, stews, and broths made of winter foods. Carrots, beets, green leafy vegetables as well as other root-based vegetables are extremely beneficial and can be had steamed or otherwise. Food we eat in the winter season should always be warm. Try to avoid pre-cooked or packaged meals and choose freshly cooked seasonal vegetables and fruits for your winter diet.

2. Go Nuts!

Dry-fruits are a must for the winters. Cashews, pista, dates, almonds, walnuts - you name it, you eat it! Not only do they help generate heat within the body, they also give you the energy needed to fight winter laziness.

Most people believe that the best thing about winters is the amount of binging that is forgiven around this time. We say if you love to eat, why not go in for healthy food that will do your body a world of good? That way, you have the best of both worlds, don't you?

Health Benefits Of Green Banana

M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management , Post Graduate Diploma In Computer Application, P.G.Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics , B.Sc.Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai

Although the green banana is simply an unripened yellow banana, it has different uses. While you can eat the yellow banana immediately after peeling, the green banana is best eaten cooked, either boiled or fried. Nutritionally, the green banana is a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals, and contains a starch that may help control blood sugar, manage weight and lower blood cholesterol levels.

1. Good source of resistance starch

Resistant starch is a type of starch that cannot be broken down by enzymes in your digestive system and, therefore, acts more like a fiber than a starch. Green bananas contain a high amount of resistant starch, according to a 2010 article published in" pacific health dialog" including foods high in resistant starch in your diet, like the green banana, may reduce your risk of diabetes by aiding in blood sugar control, and heart disease by helping to lower blood cholesterol levels.

2. Good source of fiber

In addition to the resistant starch, green bananas are also a good source of fiber. A 1-cup serving of boiled green bananas contains 3.6 grams of fiber, meeting 14 percent of your daily value. The percent daily value is based on a 2, 000-calorie diet for a healthy adult. Fiber can also reduce risk of diabetes and heart disease. In addition, fiber in food slows digestion, helping you feel full longer, aiding in weight control.

3. High in potassium

Like the ripened yellow banana, the green banana is high in potassium. A 1-cup serving of boiled green bananas contains 531 milligrams of potassium. Including more high-potassium foods in your diet may aid in blood pressure control. The american heart association recommends consuming 4, 700 milligrams of potassium a day for heart health. However, high potassium foods are not safe for everyone. If you have high blood potassium levels or kidney disease, you should talk to your doctor to determine how foods like green bananas can fit into your diet plan.

4. High in vitamin b-6

Green bananas are also high in vitamin b-6, with a 1-cup boiled serving containing 39 percent of your daily value. Vitamin b-6 plays an important role in more than 100 enzymatic reactions in your body. It is also necessary for the formation of hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in your body. Additionally, vitamin b-6 aids in blood sugar control.

Acne (Pimples)- Myths and Facts

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Dehradun
Acne (Pimples)- Myths and Facts

What is acne?
Acne [pimples] is an inflammatory skin disease, which affects millions of people throughout the world. The eruptions usually occur on the face, but can also affect the arms, back and chest.

What causes acne?
The oil producing glands in the skin are called the sebaceous glands. The hormone testosterone acts on these glands at puberty leading to increased secretion of sebum. The dead cells, bacteria and sebum form a plug at the outlet of the pilosebaceous follicle. The plug formed on the surface of the skin appears as a black dot-the ‘ blackhead’. If the plug remains just below the skin it appears as a whitish elevation-the ‘whitehead’. Sometimes, the plugged follicle bursts or becomes inflamed leading to the formation of small or large solid bumps, pus pimples [pustules] and cavities containing a sticky fluid [cysts].

When does acne start?
Acne usually starts with comedones at puberty i. E. Between 10 and 12 years of age, when the greasiness of the skin starts. It affects both boys and girls. Severe acne leading to scarring can occur in both sexes though commoner in men. Acne often reaches its peak between 13 and 19 years of age. Later it generally starts subsiding, though it may persist until the early or mid-twenties. Sometimes acne starts or reappears in mid-thirties when hormonal influences play a major role.

Is it hereditary?
When a person suffers from severe acne it is often found that one or both of his or her parents have had it like this; however this is not always so.

Does diet influence acne?
High caloric food can trigger or exacerbate existing acne. But here I want to put the fact that a high glycemic index diet act as single edged sword but milk and milk products act as double edged sword. So if you have serious type acne then you have to give up your love for milk. And also if if you are convinced that a particular food exacerbates acne then it might be worthwhile avoding the same. Have healthy food habits and eat a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables, salads and drink a lot of water.

Do I have to avoid cosmetics if I have acne?
Greasy [oil based cosmetics] block the pores on the skin and tend to bring on or increase preexisting acne. The same applies to moisturizers that are too heavy and may block the skin pores. A sudden bout of acne following facials, clean-up, bleaching ect…is common.

Can drugs cause acne?

Pills [oral contraceptives] can sometimes aggravate acne. Steroids, inh [given for tuberculosis] and anti-epileptics like phenobarbitone can produce acne. Topical steroids applied on the face often triggers acneform eruptions after they are withdrawn.

Are there any other predisposing factors?
A shower of new lesions often occurs a few days prior to the onset of menstruation in females. Tight fitting jeans may occlude the ducts leading to acne on the buttocks and thighs. Prolonged wearing of helmets can lead to pimples on the forehead. Both acne and dandruff occur on greasy skin and can coexist.

Why should acne be treated at all?

Acne can produce pustules and cysts, which can lead to pemanent disfiguring scars if left, untreated. Acne can scar not only the skin but also the psyche. It can produce low self-esteem, self-consciousness, anxiety, depression and introvert personality. Clear skin helps tremendously in boosting the self-confidence of an individual.

What is the right treatment for acne?
Consult your dermatologist for a proper scientific treatment. There are some general instructions to be followed by the patients:
1) wash your face 3-4 times daily with soap and water.
2) the scalp should be cleansed 2-3 times a week preferably with shampoo.
3) avoid all greasy cosmetics on the face.
4) do not squeeze pimples. It can cause severe scarring.

There are several topical agents and oral medications available for successful treatment which your doctor will decide. You may need long courses of antibiotics for several months in severe acne. For resistant, severe recalcitrant acne your doctor may suggest a medication called isotretinoin.

But you should have a lot of patience and take medications and take medications in the correct doses prescribed and for a proper length of time. Remember that it might take several weeks for acne medication to take effect and the face to clear.

I ignored my acne and now I have scars. Can you do something for my scars?
It is always better to prevent scars by proper and early treatment of severe acne. Your doctor will advise you on treatment available for marks

Which Is Better For A Diabetic - Chapati Or Rice?

Common indian foods such as chapati and rice can be eaten by diabetics in moderation, but different varieties are better suited to diabetic diets because they have lower glycemic indexes. Consult your doctor about the importance of choosing foods with a low glycemic index.

Glycemic index

Carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables and grains are not metabolized into glucose at the same rate. Some are quickly digested, causing spikes in blood glucose and insulin release, while others are broken down more slowly, which impacts blood sugar and insulin levels to a much lesser degree. The glycemic index is a comparative measure of how quickly a carbohydrate is reduced into glucose.
In general, foods with index values of 55 or less have low impact on blood sugar levels and are considered most appropriate for diabetics.
Index values between 56 and 69 are considered to have a moderate impact on blood glucose and insulin, whereas values of 70 or greater represent significant impact.
The glycemic index of rice depends on whether the grain is polished or not, whereas the index of chapati depends on the type of flour used.

 Rice for diabetics

Diabetics can safely eat all types of rice, although their portions should be moderated. In the production of brown rice, only the outermost hull is removed from the rice kernel. White rice is further milled, processed and polished, which reduces the nutritional value of the grain. In addition to containing more vitamins and minerals, brown rice is also a little higher in fiber, which causes your body to digest it more slowly.

As a consequence, the glycemic index of brown rice is around 68, whereas long-grain white rice has an index of about 73.

Chapati for diabetics

The most traditional type of chapati is made from ground whole wheat and roasted on a pan.
The glycemic index for whole wheat chapati is about 62.

Recommendations

If you are diabetic, eating whole-grain chapati is an excellent alternative to eating regular sliced bread which has significantly higher glycemic indexes.

Brown rice contains many important nutrients and shouldn’t be excluded from your diet.

White rice has a higher glycemic index than both brown rice and chapati and is poorer in nutrients, so it shouldn’t be relied upon as a dietary staple if you are diabetic.

Brush twice a day and floss daily even when your braces are on. The food particles get stuck into the braces very easily. It is very important to keep them clean.

Know What Works For You In Bed!

Sex is a very personal experience. If done right, it can be wonderfully enriching for both partners. However, most people are unsure about what they want and end up having bad experiences. It is extremely important to know what you want before going to bed with someone. But a common problem that most people face is, how to know what you want? This is true for inexperienced people and people who are not good at articulating what they want or like.

Imagine a situation where, you go to a restaurant with a cuisine you've got no idea about and you're asked to order three courses! What's important therefore is to know the menu. There are a few steps that can help you to do this quite smoothly:

  1. Stop being self-conscious: Most people hesitate to ask what they want in bed as they are extremely self-conscious. However, it is very important to remember that this experience should be great for both partners. You do have the right to ask for what you want.
  2. Know what you're into: Another important step towards knowing what you want in bed is to know what you're into - what you like, what you dislike, what extent you are willing to go to and what are the dos and don'ts. No one other than you can set these ground rules down better. It is extremely essential that you do this otherwise your experience may be poor and you may develop an idea that you don't like sex at all, which is what happens in a number of cases where a relatively inexperienced person has a poor sexual experience and believes that that is how it's supposed to be.
  3. Communication is the key: Communication is literally the key to unlock an amazing sexual experience. Talk to your partner before you start. Lay down some ground rules. Talk to your partner, tell him or her what you like and what you don't. Talk to your partner after it's over. Give them a candid feedback. Only if you intend to do it with them again. In case of a one night stand, no need to leave things bitter!
  4. Be open: Another important fact is that you yourself have to be open. Be open to exploration and experimentation. Don’t think that just because something hasn't worked for you in the past, it'll never work for you. Likes and dislikes keep changing. Involve your partner in the process of experimentation. Explore, experiment, and if you don't like something, don't keep trying in the hope that it'll work someday. Some things work for some people and they don't for others.
  5. Learn and apply: You do need to have a fair bit of knowledge before you jump straight into the act. Contrary to popular belief, an attractive body and testosterone are not the only things you need to be good in bed. This knowledge may come from experience or through reading. The more you learn, the better you apply.

There really is no fixed rulebook about what you like and what you don't. It's all about the 3 Es - exploring, experimenting and experiencing. Be open, be adventurous and it'll work wonders for you.
