Will a person with type 2 diabetes under control end up with the need for insulin?

Will a person with type 2 diabetes under control end up with the need for insulin?
Mr. lybrate-user Shamal, Thanks for the query. When a person gets diabetes, at that time almost 50 % of his Beta cells are non functional. Further, because of continued high blood glucose levels (above normal) beta cells are further damaged. Because of this majority of T2 DM patients after many years of having diabetes will need insulin along with oral drugs. But not that every one will require. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Height of a person depends on heredity, hormonal balance, nutrition and exercise. However, since our long bones (responsible for height increase) stop growing by the end of 18 years. Therefore, after that there is no way to increase the height. Thanks.

Thanks for the query. TSH 7 mU/L shows presence of subclinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is advocated at that level, unless one has severe troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism. TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L is normal. But if it is with treatment, that means, one has to continue taking the thyroxine tablets. Since there is no mention whether you are on treatment or have any symptoms etc, so difficult comment. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.

Sir my fasting sugar level is 95 and pp is 212 So any medicine required or physical work only.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Blood glucose after food 212 mg, shows presence of diabetes. This needs treatment with appropriate drugs. Plus regular exercise and diet control also are needed. Another important aspect is that with a BMI of 29.92 kgs/M2, you are in the grade one obesese category (30 kgs/M2). This needs to be corrected. The ideal body weight for your height and age should be 62 kgs. Hence there is a need to reduce the weight. Weight reduction will help in better control of blood glucose levels. But since you have already developed diabetes it is necessary for starting drug treatment. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Tanks for the query. Yes one can consume those daily even when hypothyroidism is there. Only soy beans should be avoided. Plus bakery items, foods made from maida. Thanks.

Hi, She is thyroid patient last year her TSH report is 14 which is higher then normal but now 6 and she is suffering ...
Mrr lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When hypothyroidism is properly treated with adequate dose of levothyroxine, TSh is mainatined around 3 to 4 mU/L. If TSH is around 6 mU/L or more most of the symptoms will reappear. So it is essential to increase the dosage of thyroxine being taken. Then check TSH after 6 to 8 weeks to see if desired level is reached. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. TSH 3.06 mU/L, is fine, there is no need to increase the dosage. But keep checking TSH one in 6 months. Thanks.

I am 53 years old my height is 5.9 inches weight 100 kg. I am diabetic please suggest me a diet chart.
Hi, Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. However, to suggest a diet plan I need to know following details: 1) Fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, 2) Extent of daily exercise being done, 3) Present diet pattern in detail, 4) Current treatment with drugs and dosage. I am sure you are aware that with a BMI of 32.67 kgs, you are in grade obesity. Your ideal body weight should be 75 kgs. Therefore, your intake has to be based on 75 kgs and not on 100 kgs. Thanks.

Doctor, I am 58 and diabetic for the last 9 years. My creatinine is 1.06, BUN is 19 but urine shows a lot of protein 1000. How to reduce protein leakage into the urine?

Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Doctor,
I am 58 and diabetic for the last 9 years. My creatinine is 1.06, BUN is 19 but urine shows a lot of protein ...
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. High proteinuria is usually a sign of affection to functioning of the kidney. This happens due to years of uncontrolled blood glucose and or high BP. Both diabetes and high BP affect filtration membrane of the kidney. Therefore, it essential to achieve a strict blood glucose control with fasting < 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Since there is no mention about your blood glucose levels and HbA1c% as well as BP readings, it is difficult to comment. Thanks.
